No news is good news? Or maybe it means nothing at all.
The NHL and the NHL Players' Association met for 51/2 hours yesterday at a secret location in Toronto to talk about issues related to their stalemate on a collective-bargaining agreement.
The lockout is entering its 134th day this morning.
Both sides said they would meet again. One source said it would be in the next 48 hours.
Neither side had much of substance to say when yesterday's meeting ended about 6 p.m.
"The meeting has concluded for the day, and we will meet again this week," Bill Daly, the NHL's executive vice president and chief legal officer, said in a statement. "We have no further comment at this time."
Daly would not say what day or where the sides would meet next. Ted Saskin, the union's senior director, was equally secretive.
