somewhere in the US, there was a communion taking place and the communion wafer fell on the floor. they put the wafer into holy water but it wouldn't dissolve. instead it turned into a flesh-like thing. i don't know anymore about it. heard it on the radio this morning. will check for more info and let you know.

Not sure where this should go... Putting it here with the WolfMistress's permission Science News Online Week of June 10, 2000; Vol. 157, No. 24 Mystic Stuff Scientists describe and ponder their own brushes with spiritual, mystical, and psychic happenings in the online journal called The Archives of Scientists' Transcendent Experiences (TASTE). Psychologist Charles T. Tart of the University of California, Davis, produces the journal and hopes to build a database of accounts by bona fide, show-me-the-data researchers for future investigations into such experiences. Believe them or not, you'll find the Web site's strange tales curiously enthralling. Go to: http://issc-taste.org/index.shtml

Interesting discussion yesterday at home regarding personality and the paranormal. The person I was talking with has the same personality type as me (INFP/ENFP)((see http://www.kiersey.com) and has read up on it, and apparently it is quite common for INFPs to have premonitions, see 'pictures' and other paranormal stuff. Especially if they are highly intuitive. I don't know if there have been many studies on the extent of paranormal experiences and personality types, but it sounds interesting...
~MarciaH Mon, Sep 4, 2000 (14:17) #26
I must have anti-paranormal genes. I get no vibes, visitations, visions or premonitions. Someone definitly got MY share!!!
~wolf Mon, Sep 4, 2000 (17:48) #27
i'm familiar with the keirsey temperment sorter (mine's ENFP, i think). but this temperment sorter is used for all sorts of things from getting jobs to psychology/psychiatry. very interesting stuff) will reverify mine, it's on a note at work so will let you know tomorrow.
~sociolingo Mon, Sep 4, 2000 (19:19) #28
Marcia, I don't think that's strictly true.... maybe you don't remember them *grin* Wolfie, why am I not surprised????? I came out ENFP on the Myers Briggs (from which the Kiersey was derived) some 15 years ago, with intuition almost off the scale. Since then I have become more 'I', as the latest ones come out INFP.
~wolf Tue, Sep 5, 2000 (20:00) #29
if i had taken the test years ago, it would've been INFP. but i have changed with life experiences.
~sociolingo Wed, Sep 6, 2000 (02:30) #30
Hmmm, I think I went into a pit about ten years ago, partly the CFS and partly big hurts professionally = I became more I than E. When I gain confidence I become more E, but I still sorta feel it's not acceptable.... I guess this is also linked with being comfortable and relying on my intuitive powers too. As a christian I link that with the power of the Holy Spirit, and interpret things in that paradigm. I know others would interpret the highly intuitive state differently. However, for me that is a sort of safety net against going too far off beam.

Paranormal News Up-to-the-minute accounts of the paranormal, enigmatic and the unexplained. Bookmark this page and return often for the latest in paranormal news. Malawi President flees 'haunted' home Malawi's President Bingu wa Mutharika has temporarily abandoned his controversial $100m palace in the administrative capital Lilongwe because he is being haunted by ghosts, a top aide said on Saturday. "It's true that the president is no longer staying there and we have asked clerics from several Christian churches including the Roman Catholic to pray for the new state house to exorcise evil spirits," Malani Mtonga, an aide to Mutharika on religious affairs, told reporters... Exorcist fights demons A controversial visiting exorcist says Melbourne's demons are the most vicious in the world because our society is a religious vacuum. High profile American preacher Bob Larson began his national exorcism tour at the Forum Theatre last night. A shyster to some and a saviour to others, he claims to have exorcised demons in 90 countries. He said the demons he battled in his Melbourne exorcisms were among the roughest he had faced. Larson said Australia's "lack of regard for religion" led demons to possess non-believers... Ghostly goings on at No 4 It took three exorcisms and a Maori blessing to expel the spirits from historic Cotter House, one of the homes featuring on this years Look Good Feel Better Fine Homes Tour. If only these walls could talk. There must be hundreds of fascinating tales to tell about the goings-on at Remueras Cotter House over the past 158 years. The fifth oldest home in Auckland has a past just about as colourful as its exquisitely decorated blue and green sitting rooms and, according to current owner Gloria Poupard-Walbridge, it was haunted until she called in the exorcists... The ghost was just 'checking her out' Last week we investigated whether the former inmates of Claybury Lunatic Asylum were haunting the residents of the Repton Park housing estate. Since our article, we have discovered more about ghostly goings on at the site. Two stories in particular stand out, one of which suggests the spirits were active even before the hospital was closed. Charlie Stong reports. Spirits were haunting Claybury Hospital well before it became a housing complex. Last week the Guardian ran a story telling of ghostly goings on at the Woodford Bridge estate during the past year, but this week the newsdesk was contacted by a former administrative worker at Claybury Hospital, who said a ghost had come to "check her out" when she moved into a new building... True New Hampshire ghost tales Tim Louis never believed in ghosts before he bought the old Bean Tavern on Fremont Road more than 20 years ago. Now he says hes a believer. In 1982, after his father-in-law died, Louis and his wife, Peg, were searching for his father-in-laws will. Louis had just come home from work the day after Christmas with The Boston Globe and placed the newspaper on the kitchen table. He went upstairs looking for Peg and she was frantically looking for her fathers will, which Louis said must have been filed away in a safe place... Mysterious mirage appears off coast in Guangdong Just recently it was discovered that in the maritime waters of Chinas Guangdong Province, a mirage was spotted. It can be seen clearly as a small islet with a number of mountains and even a structure that looks like a castle. As it mysteriously appeared, it also left the same way only to have appeared for a bit of over three hours... UFO captured on film hovering high in city sky "A black triangular object that made a number of movements and then speared off out of sight behind the trees." That's how police have described footage claimed to be of an unidentified flying object (UFO) that was reported to police, and shot on a video camera, by a Dubbo family last Sunday night. "I've never seen anything like it," Suzanne Fuller said. "It was hovering there for five hours, and it was completely silent." The police arrived to the scene at 8pm, viewed the videotape, and filed an official report to Air Services Australia (ASA), a federal airways monitoring bureau. "It looked like a bird, but much larger, the size of a car, with a flat top and a deeper shape at the bottom"... Hello aliens, this is Earth calling A group of engineers has offered a solution for people who want a direct line to aliens - by broadcasting their phone calls directly into space. People wanting to contact extraterrestrial beings through www.TalkToAliens.com can dial a premium rate US number and have their call routed through a transmitter and sent into space through a 3.2-metre-wide dish in central Connecticut, US... Veil falls over Italy's soothsayers Italy's soothsayers and magicians were contemplating a future condemned to darkness yesterday after the national media watchdog said it was banning them from daytime television. Scores of tiny regional and private channels teem with programmes featuring tarot readers and others claiming prophetic powers. Their activities have become a matter of concern in a country where superstitious beliefs are increasing... Amazing Kreskin warns Jackson lawyer not to use psychic on stand A famed, self-described "mentalist" The Amazing Kreskin is saying a "psychic" has no business testifying at Michael Jackson's child molestation trial. Kreskin has issued a press release saying he's written a letter to Jackson attorney Thomas Mesereau offering his advice about psychic Uri Geller. Specifically, Kreskin said Mesereau should not put Geller on the stand to testify about hypnotizing Jackson because it would hurt the case. Kreskin, whose real name is George Joseph Kresge Jr., said he has demonstrated that people under hypnosis are able to control what they express... Police say the psychic wasn't the only information they went on. They contacted her after receiving an annonymous tip from someone who claimed they knew the missing Michigan man was killed in Williamsburg. Police say the caller described an area that fit the area they were already looking at as a possible location for the man... Extra-terrestrial underwater experiments near Sumatra Are they trying to diffuse a super volcano repeat eruption like the one 74,000 years back... That monkey can read your mind Monkeys can deduce what other monkeys and humans think, want and see based on visual cues, according to a new paper. The study, in this week's issue of the journal Current Biology, is the first to show that monkeys, like humans, not only react to visual information, they can also use it to reason about the behaviour of others. The findings suggest that certain human cognition skills are not as rare as once thought. They also indicate that the ability to reason did not evolve in humans. Instead, the brainy trait probably passed down to us from our ape ancestors... A similar sighting in Angelina County was reported a few months ago to the Department of State Health Services. Veterinary officials believe it is a coyote that's suffering from hair loss. They say it may be because of mange, caused by mites in the hair follicles... But it was the story of a Fort Thomas man, Howard Storm, that motivated her not only to write a foreword for his new book, but to become an advocate for its publication. "I think he's one of the most important mystics of our time," Rice said in a phone interview from her suburban New Orleans home... [Also see: Near-Death Experiences] Are psychic phenomena the work of the devil? "I often encounter two nagging questions regarding the study of psychic or paranormal phenomena. The first is: 'Does its study affect one's religion or belief in God?' The second is: 'Aren't all these phenomena the work of the devil?' The questions seem to concern only Filipinos. Foreigners hardly ask them. Many Filipinos are interested in studying the hidden or esoteric powers of humans and in expanding their consciousness but are afraid that it would upset their religious beliefs. Some orthodox religions have, in fact, prohibited their members from getting involved with even the most superficial and harmless psychic practices because of this fear... It's all in the stars A new British satellite channel dedicated to all things psychic and astrological is attracting huge numbers of viewers. It's mid-afternoon on Your Destiny TV, and Tracy Higgs, a medium on the noon to 6pm shift, is in full flow, flipping over the tarot cards at a rapid rate in answer to Adel's text request for a reading. "I'm getting the month of October, I'm getting... a baby, is that right?'' Sadly the viewer is left none the wiser, as things have to move on swiftly... [More Paranormal Media] Source of mystery booms likely to remain unknown The mysterious booms that rocked much of downtown Saturday night may remain forever a mystery. About 8:20 p.m., 911 dispatchers started getting a wave of calls reporting the booms, said Shawn Cline, the hazardous-materials coordinator for the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Office of Emergency Management. The calls covered an area of downtown between Glade and Cherry streets, from Brookstown Avenue to the south and West 24th Street to the north, he said... The event, said to be Britain's first paranormal festival, will take place in Edinburgh over 10 days in May. The Mary King's Ghost Fest will include visits to "haunted" sites, night vigils, and demonstrations. One parapsychology experiment will centre on Mary King's Close, where paranormal activity has been reported in the past. It will be carried out by Professor Richard Wiseman, of the University of Hertfordshire... If you live in North Ayrshire, it may be hovering closer than you think. Files released by the Ministry of Defence under the Freedom of Information Act show that the village of West Kilbride was the UK's unlikely leading hot spot last year for sightings of unidentified flying objects. There were 12 separate reports of "yellow spheres" flying either alone or in formation above the village in Ayrshire. All were referred to the air directorate of the RAF for possible investigation. The identities of the person or persons who reported them are withheld under the Data Protection Act... We are visited and controlled by UFOs from the M15 Globular Star Cluster the densest Black Hole driven Core Cluster the capital of the Universe Some astrophysicists are running back to the drawing table in recent days. They are busy looking at a Star Cluster called M15 discovered years back by Hubble Telescope. Rumors are rampant in India and China that the respective governments have been contacted and the origin of the UFOs and intelligent life forms are from this M15 Star Cluster. This Star Cluster is the densest part of the universe. The same people are also talking about the fact that this so called M15 Core Cluster is the Capital of Universe. This is where the Federation of Universe is... Advanced guidance systems from UFO flight patterns and navigation systems Indian space scientists and technologists closely watch the UFO flight pattern and navigation systems. The extra-terrestrial flight patterns are quite different from terrestrial systems days the experts. The flight patterns and navigation systems are input into computer models to extrapolate points of disappearances. The computer model uses predictive analysis to interpolate and extrapolate the flight patterns and navigation systems... Extraterrestrial contact in Southern Chile The phenomenon of Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) always surprises with the variety and spectacular cases it provides. This time, several people maintain they have been in contact with apparently extraterrestrial beings who inhabit an island off the southern tip of Chile. This mysterious story begins one night in June of 1984, in the Tenth Region of Chile, specifically at the Mitagues lighthouse, located in the Moraleda Channel. In that place a group of seven people, apparently of the National Navy, observed an immense ball of colored red light settle on the water only some meters away. Fearfull of it they called for aid via a communications radio to Iquique... Pursuing the paranormal Three words. "Did anybody answer?" And David Sircom ripped off his headphones and backed against the wall. Just three words. His disbelief vanished. "I always believed there was something after death," Sircom said, "but not that you could interact with them." He'd asked out loud if there were any spirits in his home that wanted to communicate. The first time he heard nothing. A few hours later on that fall morning in 2000, he tried again. Sircom started his tape recorder, asked his question and waited a few moments. Then he transferred the silence he'd recorded onto his computer and played it back... "There seems to be more and more (skeptics) each year," the Indian-born, Ottawa-based clairvoyant said with a sigh from her booth at Montreal's twice-a-year international ESP Psychic Expo. "But I'm not here to convince them." Boasting a client list that includes business tycoons and cabinet ministers is enough to validate her centuries-old practice, she said... Car without wheels moves Could it happen in Kettering (or wherever)? A car that had been without wheels or batteries for six months has moved 15 inches overnight. The old car belonged to a funeral company and was being repaired by Herminio Anselmo da Silva in his shop in Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Mr. da Silva told Hoje em Dia newspaper, "The car was parked on a flat surface and no one got near it. I cannot explain what happened and it is freaking me out." Mr. da Silva said he is the only one who has the keys of the shop and that the car moved on its own overnight. He said, "I left the shop at night and on the next morning it had moved. Only this one. I think it must be some energy from the dead inside it"... Ball of lightning shot across room A St. Sampson's couple watched in amazement as ball lightning entered their lounge. Billy Gregory-Haines, 41, and wife Maria, 39, were watching television in their home at LIslet. Maria saw this streak come straight through the glass porch, then a double-glazed door, and shoot across the room, he said. The couple watched as a ball, the colour of lightning, stopped for a split second about a foot from the TV screen and about 18 inches off the floor before leaving the same way as it had entered. Mr Gregory-Haines said the whole thing took about two seconds. The ball was a sort of a blue-and-white colour, absolutely crystal clear. Had I not seen it with my own eyes, I would not have believed it, he said. Mr Gregory-Haines began to inspect the house for damage but found none... Ball lightning strike wrecked my TV A pensioner had the shock of his life when ball lightning shot through his front window. Roy Falla, 80, was watching TV at his home in Lowlands Road, St Sampsons, when the phenomenon struck, causing the set to fail. Amateur meteorologist Paul Domaille has investigated more than 50 reports of ball lightning from Thursday last week seen at the same time as a Flybe aircraft was struck twice in mid-air. So-called lightning balls penetrated at least four homes in the north of the island... [More info: "The Mystery of Ball Lightning"] Ghosts, spirits and beyond... The other day, during a long wait in a taxi at traffic lights in Manama, the driver pointed to a rather impressive but totally deserted-looking building on the opposite side of the road and told me it was haunted. "Nobody lives there, nobody ever wants to live there even for free", he said. "There is a story about that," he continued but the lights turned green and we moved on... Spate of canine 'suicides' from bridge baffles animal experts On a wet and windy winter's day on the west coast of Scotland, the ancient borough of Dumbarton can appear bleak and depressing. The once fashionable and prosperous ship-building centre is now little more than a suburb of Glasgow and, it appears, even some of the dogs have lost the will to live. Animal behaviourists are concerned at an apparent spate of canine "suicides" in the town after at least five dogs are said to have thrown themselves from an historic bridge in the past six months... Evil forces plague Chilean home A year after the bewitched house of Llanquihue became well-known in all the mass media, there are still no answers to the causes of the paranormal phenomena that torment the Vera Ziga family. Family members all speak of things that fly through the air, that catch fire and are broken, in an existence that's much like a state of war. Living in the Vera Ziga house has, during this past three years, been like a battlefield between the forces of good and evil... Lewis will deliver a slide show of real-life ghost cases and photos of allegedly haunted Wisconsin sites. Linda Godfrey, author of "The Beast of Bray Road," will discuss the topic: "Do Werewolves Walk Among Us"... Ghosts in a machine What is it that triggers the brain to produce a religious experience? Jim lives in California and hes into an extreme sport. But hes not testing his limits with gravity or exhaustion. His equipment consists of a darkened room, a blindfold, heavy-duty earplugs and eight magnetic coils, linked to a PC and attached to his head with a Velcro headband. Jims arena is inner space. The envelope hes pushing is consciousness, using a set of experiences more commonly thought of as religious or spiritual. At various times over the past year, Jim claims to have had out-of-body experiences, felt a state of oceanic bliss and sensed presences near by... Poltergeists could be Straths fault Strathearn has a history of bizarre goings on whether it be the Comrie earthquakes or the spooky experiences of Crieff shop owner John Randall. The Herald caught up with local Earth Energy researcher and author David Cowan who revealed some very strange secrets about ancient sites and earthquakes in the area... Dance with the naked aliens Mogollon Monster a hairy tale I am probably going to live to regret this one, but some guy has asked me a couple of times to do a column on the Mogollon Monster, and I'm thinking I may as well do it and get it out of the way. And before we go any farther, I would like to make it clear that I don't believe there is any such thing as the Mogollon Monster. The Mogollon Monster is Arizona's version of Bigfoot. It lives, as you may have guessed, along the Mogollon Rim, although he also has been spotted around Prescott... For the wounds to these creatures have been likened to those left by the mythical Chupacabras. The fact was registered in one of the houses of the town, where their owners were left with that impression when seeing that a total of fourteen sheep of their flock had been dissected by some monster... Zurich University neuropsychologists were so intrigued by the case of E.S. - a 27-year-old professional musician whose full name has been withheld - that they recruited her for a year-long inquiry. They say she is the world's most extreme known case of synaesthesia, the phenomenon whereby hearing music triggers a response in other sensory organs. E.S. sees colours when she hears a tone, with for instance an F sharp causing her to see violet while a C makes her see red, quite literally... New research opens a window on the minds of plants Hardly articulate, the tiny strangleweed, a pale parasitic plant, can sense the presence of friends, foes, and food, and make adroit decisions on how to approach them. Mustard weed, a common plant with a six-week life cycle, can't find its way in the world if its root-tip statolith - a starchy "brain" that communicates with the rest of the plant - is cut off... Scholars to delve into mystery of the spirit within, search for origin A scene from the film The Exorcist shows the character Father Merrin praying over the possessed body of Regan. It was The Exorcist that made the devil famous, but tales of demon possession have been around a lot longer than Linda Blair. Narratives of possession and exorcism are recurrent historical phenomena in the Mediterranean world, beginning in the first century and continuing down until modern times. But their precise origin and prehistory are unknown. To further examine this mystery, the University will hold a three-day conference, The Spirit Within: Inspiration, Possession and Disease in the Ancient Mediterranean Basin... The young filmmaker is making sure by picking brains, asking questions, and seeking suggestions for his pet project, a 59-minute documentary entitled The Ochopee Skunk Ape. In that quest, the native Marco Island resident invited a select audience of about a dozen friends into his home recently for a private screening of the film. Bubb Sr. Bubb was a first-rate scientist and mathematician from Washington University, a man outside the inner circle of Jesuits from St. Louis University who conducted the exorcism. The exorcism ritual went on for 12 weeks and involved a 14-year-old boy from Mount Rainier, Md. The case was believed by the principal exorcist, the Rev. William S. Bowdern, to be a true incidence of demonic possession. Some Jesuits, however, were skeptical... Priest in 'Exorcist' incident dies The Rev. Walter H. Halloran, the last living Jesuit priest to be involved in the famous exorcism here in 1949 that became books and movies, died Tuesday evening at a Jesuit retirement home in Milwaukee. Father Halloran, 83, had his nose broken by the 14-year-old boy from Mount Rainier, Md., who was thought to have been taken over by the devil. German experts row over star disc One of Germany's most acclaimed archaeological finds - a 3,600-year-old disc depicting the stars and the planets - is at the centre of a dispute following claims that it is a modern forgery. According to Germany's museum establishment, the Sky Disc of Nebra is the oldest depiction of the heavens discovered and offers an insight into the Bronze Age mind. But the authenticity of the disc has been challenged by one of the country's leading archaeologists, Peter Schauer of Regensburg University. He told a court in Halle that the artefact was nothing more than an amateurish forgery... "I don't think it would be any wonder if life like us exists somewhere else as space is vast," Mitsumi Fujishita, radioastronomy professor at Kyushu Tokai University, said. The five-day search is being done jointly at the Nishi-Harima Astronomical Observatory, and the state-run Mizusawa Astrogeodynamics Observatory in northern Japan... Very superstitious Vampire squirrels, giant serpents - the islanders living off Chile's mainland are an alarmist bunch, finds Tom Burgis. Chile's Straits of Chacao are haunted by El Caleuche, a phantasmal Dutch merchantman who looms periodically from the peasoupers, terrifying the fishermen. The straits may only take half an hour to cross, but, figuratively, are much wider. The islanders on the far shore, believers in witchcraft, consider themselves a race apart... Is something lurking in Lake Washington? Is it a croc or a crock? Are razor-toothed reptiles patrolling the waters of Lake Washington? Or has a new suburban legend sprung to life? Medina wants to know; so does Mercer Island. So do the men and women of law enforcement in both towns. It was just Wednesday that two reports came in to Medina police that described a shape that looks like "the head of an alligator" near the docks in Lake Washington's Fairweather Bay. No Bigfoot. No Loch Ness Monster. Not even a critter befitting the descriptions of ancient Indians, whose legends had spotted, horned serpents and other assorted monsters living in the lake. Still the reports were real enough for police...
