What kind of day are you having on the web? Are you surfing for fun? Are you working on the web? Are things coming up ok?

~terry Wed, Nov 19, 1997 (15:13) #3
They do unless we exclude them. I can't see it because I'm telnetting. Us telnetters rule, don't we Stacey?
~CotC Wed, Nov 19, 1997 (15:48) #4
This is probably a stupid question, but what's the telnet address?
~terry Wed, Nov 19, 1997 (17:28) #5
www.spring.com But you need to email me for an account.
~KitchenManager Sat, Apr 10, 1999 (12:53) #6
now that that's all been taken care of... my web day today is okay
~aschuth Sat, Apr 10, 1999 (13:02) #7
This baby loads bad today, plus the "Connection to the Spring"-topic is frozen, so I can't whine in anguish there. I submit posts, but they don't work. So I have to submit again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again
~aschuth Sat, Apr 10, 1999 (13:03) #8
and again and again and again and again and again and again until ages later, it registers. It would make me cranky, if I weren't just ever so nice today...
~KitchenManager Sat, Apr 10, 1999 (13:04) #9
that topic is frozen? in porch? hmmm...I wanted to, but hadn't done it yet...
~wolf Sun, Apr 25, 1999 (14:33) #10
alright, who's mindspring and why do they have my url????? i know i didn't register it, but i'd like to know who did and where those guys got my handle? check it out: http://www.midnightwolf.com
~wolf Sun, Apr 25, 1999 (14:45) #11
ok, well, i went through namesecure.com (which gets approval through internic) for http://www.midnightwolf.net so there! paul, namesecure will provide my dsn address. now what?
~ratthing Mon, Apr 26, 1999 (10:56) #12
now that it is registerd with internic, wolfie, we just need to set the servers up here to host it. let me know when all the paperwork gets processed.
~terry Mon, Apr 26, 1999 (12:04) #13
She needs to register it with our servers though if she's going to have it hosted here, which she's welcome to do of course. So she would have to fill this form in and send it to hostmaster@internic.net. Copy and paste this into an email and change the appropriate fields, wolfie. Q. ~wolf Mon, Apr 26, 1999 (12:47) #14
ok, but i have to wait for the approval process to finish up. i was really taken aback because where in the heck did they get my name? i mean, i know it's not copyrighted or anything, but it's MY handle!! haha, i was so upset that i had to register the .net so they couldn't have the name monopolized. if they want it really bad, they'll have to enter negotiations! it's already about $120 with namesecure and internic, what other costs do i need to project for? (and thanks for the help, guys)
~wolf Mon, Apr 26, 1999 (18:27) #15
ok, well, it's registered and stuff. but it will take a day for it to be entered into the internet root servers (whatever that means). so, to see it (sortof) you can go to: http://205.229.232.41 whatever that means too!! i've made changes so that my domain will show up in the address box of the browser. but now i don't know what to do! and i'm so excited!! i actually have cyber-property, woohoo!!
~aschuth Tue, Apr 27, 1999 (07:20) #16
Wolf, my heroine!
~wolf Tue, Apr 27, 1999 (09:31) #17
why thank you alex!
~aschuth Tue, Apr 27, 1999 (09:33) #18
My pleasure!
~wolf Tue, Apr 27, 1999 (10:14) #19
my husband found out the dollar figures last night and guess what? he didn't flip!! woohoo!! he thinks it's pretty cool.....
~aschuth Tue, Apr 27, 1999 (10:21) #20
Want to follow your shining and inspiring example, just don't have time to take care of it. I'd love to find a cheap place that offers Lotus Domino webhosting, so I could have some neat webtools and applications... Plus a person who'd help me on that project. Can't do that and keep the mag running simultaneously. Plus: It ain't over when you get the first hits. You gotta keep updating content to stay interesting, and it's quite enough to survive the next issue...
~wolf Tue, Apr 27, 1999 (10:25) #21
yeah, it's a lot of work, but it'll be fun and an adventure. something i've never done before. i want to be able to show all the sides of the midnight wolf and keep it honest, simple, and hopeful, you know? just don't know where (when) to start. how do i ftp stuff over there? would the ftp directory be ftp.midnightwolf.net ?? i have mail forwarding turned on so if people try to email me that address it'll go to a specified mailbox. clueless in louisiana. but beware, eventually my web pages will be on my new acreage!
~wolf Tue, Apr 27, 1999 (10:27) #22
oh, alex, you could put your magazine on-line (bits and pieces of it). i know many that do. you've probably thought of it. don't know anything about lotus except that it's a computer language thing. sorry i can't help you out.
~aschuth Tue, Apr 27, 1999 (10:30) #23
I'd guess ftp.midnightwolf.net/ , but this I'm not sure. No Idea in Frankfurt. The Wolfe Hath New Grounds To Prowl and Howl!
~wolf Tue, Apr 27, 1999 (10:34) #24
owuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhh!!
~aschuth Tue, Apr 27, 1999 (10:42) #25
(Shshsh! You'll wake the husband, and what will happen then? http://www.spring.net/yapp-bin/restricted/read/screwed/79.31 )
~aschuth Tue, Apr 27, 1999 (10:52) #26
Lotus is a company, now owned by IBM. They were pioneers in developing spreadsheet-appilacations when they did Lotus 1-2-3. Lotus Notes is a groupware platform (servers, clients, developing tools) - also mail and workflow functions -, that has since its R4.5 added Web-functionalities. The new R5.0 is quite hot and webable, from what they say, and I'd love to work a WWW-site with that. There's many ideas on what to do with it, like e.g. a database of reviewed records (searchable for artists, release date, labels, etc.), or a database with concerts + events. We could have tools that optimized editors working (by giving our writers access to certain applications via the web, etc.)
~terry Tue, Apr 27, 1999 (16:48) #27
You spent $120 on something that would have cost you $70 if youda let wer, ray or me help you with it, wolfie! All ya gotta do is fill in the form above and send it to Internic and they bill you later. It shouldn't cost you anything up front. In fact, a lot of folks hold on to names for 60 to 90 days before they pay for them and some folks don't even pay, they just reapply for the name again.
~wolf Tue, Apr 27, 1999 (17:53) #28
oh well, i was in a mood! i appreciate your support. tell me what i should do now? (no, the internic will only cost 70 and i haven't paid that yet. the 45 was from namesecure and that was for doing the legwork and setting up dns and stuff). it's no biggie, but if i decide to register something else, i'll definately send it your way!
~terry Wed, Apr 28, 1999 (09:12) #29
Yep, cause we won't charge our wolfie nuffin'
~KitchenManager Thu, Apr 29, 1999 (00:37) #30
well, except for maybe the promise of a good time if we're ever in the swamp...
~wolf Sun, May 2, 1999 (09:28) #31
i gare-un-tee! ok, guys, right now my url is going to some isp number (http://###.###.###). which means that the actual domain isn't rooted yet? i tried to update the message about being under construction using microsoft front page express and i couldn't figure out where to put it (ftp, etc.). is this the hurry up and wait part?
~KitchenManager Sun, May 2, 1999 (12:23) #32
could be... where's Stacey when you need to ask a FrontPage question?!? my web day is going so-so
~wolf Sun, May 2, 1999 (13:56) #33
mine is lowsy since i can't do anything yet. need to find some good but cheap graphics software. really liked netstudio but it's 130 buckaroos!
~KitchenManager Sun, May 2, 1999 (23:21) #34
what are you using now? I use the demo version of PaintShopPro...
~wolf Mon, May 3, 1999 (07:55) #35
i tried that but couldn't figure it out (besides, i'm over my limit on that too)
~KitchenManager Mon, May 3, 1999 (22:59) #36
I've used it up to like day 700 hundred or so...
~wolf Tue, May 4, 1999 (10:13) #37
yeah, i think i'm on 180 *grin*
~wolf Sat, May 8, 1999 (19:13) #38
ok, my domain update...internic has been paid in full. still waiting word on when i can use my site :(
~KitchenManager Sun, May 9, 1999 (00:59) #39
*crossing fingers*
~aschuth Sun, May 9, 1999 (12:13) #40
* Crossing fingers, too *
~aschuth Sun, May 9, 1999 (12:14) #41
(Autsch, bad thing: Wer, if I cross my fingers, too, and you cross them - do we then DOUBLE-CROSS? So ein Mist!)
~wolf Sun, May 9, 1999 (16:37) #42
no, the more crossed fingers, the better!
~KitchenManager Mon, May 10, 1999 (01:09) #43
at least in this instance...
~aschuth Mon, May 10, 1999 (06:23) #44
- will comply. -
~wolf Sat, May 15, 1999 (08:23) #45
ok, these people are ticking me off...i've paid for my site, but still can't use it. they said they'd e me when it was ready. i don't get it. my husband gleefully said i got ripped off.
~KitchenManager Sat, May 15, 1999 (14:07) #46
*sad face*
~aschuth Sun, May 16, 1999 (07:51) #47
It's an acute case of major bureaucracy, I guess. Securing the name I own took a while, too...
~wolf Sun, May 16, 1999 (09:01) #48
ok, thanks for the reassurance *hug*
~aschuth Sun, May 16, 1999 (10:27) #49
And don't forget to push that fella in, next time you come by a bayou with a GATOR From Hell in it... "And that's for gleefully saying...!"
~wolf Tue, May 18, 1999 (20:41) #50
ok, tech support at name secure says my site is up and running. if that's so, how come i can't do anything to change it? ftp doesn't work, i don't know how to access my files or anything. HELP!!!
~ratthing Wed, May 19, 1999 (07:40) #51
wolfie, did you get a username and password?
~wolf Wed, May 19, 1999 (08:26) #52
i got a password but have no idea what my username is. lemme go check!
~wolf Wed, May 19, 1999 (08:28) #53
when i go into the customer service update center, they use my domain as my user name. i've tried all sorts of combo's to do ftp and nothing works. these people aren't very user friendly (the techee's).
~aschuth Wed, May 19, 1999 (15:42) #54
Techies never are. That's why they're techies.
~wolf Wed, May 19, 1999 (15:48) #55
so i emailed them back specifically telling them the trouble i'm having. they'll probably reply with some snotty answer. terry: how do i change over to the spring's servers? (if'n i'm still welcomed to do that)
~terry Wed, May 19, 1999 (16:55) #56
Just get the information to me, wer and ratthing and we'll set it up for you. You'll need to use the registration form that I posted before and list our nameservers.
~wolf Wed, May 19, 1999 (17:15) #57
OK, printed that out agreement out. what are the nameservers? and the administrative contact and technical contact would be? and what kind of info do you need from me? oh, name secure wrote back and said they weren't a hosting server. well, no kidding, i thought getting my own domain meant i was my own host. i thought it meant that i create my own stuff and ftp it over. i still think these people don't get what i'm saying!
~aschuth Wed, May 19, 1999 (17:25) #58
They say they don't offer any space for websites. Do they only register names, and leave it to you to put your stuff up somewhere else? Sounds like they don't do webhosting (=letting you put your stuff on their machine), only registrations.
~wolf Wed, May 19, 1999 (17:34) #59
yes, exactly. but i didn't go there for webhosting, if i wanted to do that, i'd stay with geocities. i wanted my own domain. i thought all i had to do was ftp my stuff to my domain under directory or something
~KitchenManager Wed, May 19, 1999 (23:54) #60
maybe you're confusing being a host on here to having your site "hosted"...when they said that they aren't a hosting server, that means that they offer no space outside what is needed to actually register the name and have a simple page up so that your site is "active" in case someone else wants the name that you registered, this way you've got dibs but not a working site...if you ever want to use your domain you'll have to move it on here somewhere or pay somebody else even more money to host your site...hope I made some sense for you, Wolfsie...
~wolf Thu, May 20, 1999 (19:37) #61
terry: the application to internic has been completed and emailed to them. now what? what kind of info do you need from me?
~terry Fri, May 21, 1999 (09:54) #62
Your measurements, your heartrate, a cat scan, just kidding. That's about it. William or ratthing (I hope) can help set it up. Do you want it front page enabled? You'll need to give them a username and password so they can set you up as administrator. Will you want any others to have authoring access besides you?
~wolf Fri, May 21, 1999 (10:08) #63
it's official, www.midnightwolf.net is now affiliated with spring.net (thanks for the space man!) oh, am i supposed to email name secure and tell them their services are no longer needed?
~terry Fri, May 21, 1999 (10:23) #64
I enjoyed the 2 hours Front Page 2000 class that Mcirosoft gave lastnight at the Marriott. Too bad FP2000 won't run with Win 2000.
~wolf Fri, May 21, 1999 (10:36) #65
i've got front page express, will it work? go ahead and enable the front page deal, i guess. and for now, just use my spring hosting powers as my user id and password (you may have to email them to me, though).....thanks so much for your help (and patience) *hugsssss*
~stacey Fri, May 21, 1999 (16:01) #66
woo woo Wolfie!
~wolf Tue, May 25, 1999 (19:18) #67
uh....guys? is my site loaded against the spring yet? i went ahead and created a directory in my spring hosting area but i don't know where to send files for my webpage....and i remember my user id and stuff....
~KitchenManager Tue, May 25, 1999 (23:06) #68
your only name and password I remember, Wolf, are the ones for bayou...
~wolf Wed, May 26, 1999 (10:50) #69
oh, do i need to make new ones? i'll email them to you!
~wolf Wed, May 26, 1999 (10:54) #70
done!
~KitchenManager Wed, May 26, 1999 (12:25) #71
I'll check it when I get home...you could have just e-mailed me the ones you was talking about, too...
~wolf Wed, May 26, 1999 (13:08) #72
oh, well, i made up new ones *grin*
~KitchenManager Wed, May 26, 1999 (13:28) #73
you've still got time to change your mind...
~wolf Wed, May 26, 1999 (14:03) #74
nope, new ones for the webpage, old ones for my hosting duties....
~wolf Fri, May 28, 1999 (13:30) #75
wer, i sent the info to your spring address....
~KitchenManager Fri, May 28, 1999 (15:20) #76
I got it...sorry, been tied up this week so far... if I can find the stuff, hopefully all will be set up by end of business on Tuesday...
~wolf Fri, May 28, 1999 (16:33) #77
no hurry, don't mean to bug you....
~KitchenManager Fri, May 28, 1999 (17:03) #78

~wolf Tue, Jun 1, 1999 (17:49) #79

~KitchenManager Sat, Jun 5, 1999 (15:22) #81

~wolf Sat, Jun 5, 1999 (16:37) #82
i didn't know it was that difficult! *grin*
~KitchenManager Sun, Jun 6, 1999 (01:11) #83

~wolf Sun, Jun 6, 1999 (09:29) #84

~wolf Thu, Jun 24, 1999 (09:33) #95
i had this horrible nightmare last night that someone stole my domain out from under me and hard at work putting stuff on it!
~aschuth Thu, Jun 24, 1999 (09:57) #96
Wer, give her a treat! The poor creature!
~KitchenManager Fri, Jun 25, 1999 (22:59) #97
okay, Wolf, first step done...you have an account on access now (you do, too, Alexander)...now if I can just guess as well on the rest as I did with Alexander's hard drive troubles...
~wolf Sat, Jun 26, 1999 (11:50) #98
in english please (or wolfese, if you don't mind) *smooch*
~KitchenManager Sat, Jun 26, 1999 (13:54) #99
you can put stuff up on access.spring.net under mswolf68 just like you can on www.spring.net under bayou...it's one of the things I needed to do to get your domain set-up...(oh, and your uid is 1068 in case you were wondering...)now if I can just learn enough of the bash shell to set up the rest for you...
~terry Sat, Jun 26, 1999 (22:28) #100
Go, wer. And do you have the current set of instructions?
