Restaurant goer, introduce yourself.
~KitchenManager #1
Not just a goer, but an employee. Hi, everyone, I'm the kitchen manager of an Italian restaurant here in Austin, 30 years old, and married with two children. Hope to see others here soon, WER
~terry #2
What are the top 10 Italian restaurants in Austin?
~KitchenManager #3
Is this a trick question? I'm looking for the web rating now, and will bring back an answer as soon as I can. WER
~terry #4
No tricks!
~genaXtex #5
Is BASILS still there...is was my favorite when I lived there?
~terry #6
You know, I don't know. But I can check. [pops open business pages]: Basil's --- Restaurant 900 W 10th St 78703 477-5576 Sure enough.
~genaXtex #7
I remember it as being really good northern italian, great service, an "ambiance" kind of place...for a dress-up date. Nice wine, waiters in tux's, etc. They didn't take reservations however (the only bad point I could identify).
~terry #8
Gena, we're (uh) waiting on KitchenManagers listing of the top ten Italian restaurants in Austin. He may be getting back to us on this and I'm real interested in his rankings. We'll see if Basil's ranks up there with the best. If you make it to Austin again, I'd love to take you out to Basil's.
~KitchenManager #9
Me, again. Sorry I've been gone so long. Problems have ranged from upgrading to Windows95 at work to three of the wife's friends dying to not being able to log on to some sites. Oh, well. Not quite ten, and each is on for different criteria. If you feel any is in error or that I have left someone off, please respond here or e- mail me and I will compile a new list. In no particular order, the restaurants are: Olive Garden Mezzaluna Maccaroni Grill Mama Mia's Little Italy Carmelo's Brick Oven Sfuzzi Spaghetti Warehouse Hill Country Pasta House Italian Garden I'll be waiting for those responses. WER
~terry #10
What about ranking them. At first I thought you had Olive Garden at number one. A couple to consider are L'Opera at Lakeline Mall and the Italian restaurant at the corner of Mesa Drive and Spicewood Springs road (the name escapes me, it may even already be on your list). What do you think of the Olive Garden (I like them for their copious bread and salads)?
~KitchenManager #11
That unknown one at Mesa and Spicewood Springs is Little Italy. As to ranking them, that would be difficult by myself as I work at one of the one's on my list. Be back soon, I gotta run. WER
~terry #12
Then put it number one or leave it off the list and put an asterisk by it!
~aubrey #13
Guess I've already covered my opinions on Austin restaurants in the Austin conference. Maybe I just had a bad experience, but I really hate Olive Garden--just smacks of chain restaurant to me (friends rave about the bread but I wasn't thrilled). On the other hand, I used to love Macaroni Grill.... So I'm a poor but snobbish gourmand, I guess. I used to eat out a lot more when I lived in Austin but I can't afford to now in Dallas. And you don't care about Dallas restaurants anyway!
~terry #14
I can handle the Olive Garden occasionally. But by the time I get done with their never ending breadsticks and huge all you can eat salad, I'm ready to put the main course in a doggie bag.
~crazyj #15
Hey everyone, it's CrazyJ here. Listen up. I'm looking for a good place to eat. I don't care what kind of food it is, just give me some good grub and a nice atmosphere. Is that too much to ask for?
~stacey #16
assuming your in Austin... Nice atmosphere: casual, Shady Grove, Hyde Park Grill Nice atmosphere: kinda chi chi, Hyde Park (again), Mushashino (sushi) Best chef: Little Italy on Mesa drive
~KitchenManager #17
Thanks, stacey. How much do I owe you? WER
~stacey #18
a tiramisu when I come to visit!!!!
~KitchenManager #19
It's yours, baby, just tells me when! WER
~stacey #20
Will do! Certainly sometime in December.
~KitchenManager #21
It's on the calendar. WER
~KitchenManager #22
Hey, terry: ..........How come I get different descriptions from my two different accounts? And neither one gives me the you are a host sentence? WER
~terry #23
What do you mean different descriptions?
~stacey #24
In one he's THE MAN and in the other he's KING SHIT!
~KitchenManager #25
This one says welcome to the restaurant conference (these aren't verbatim) and the other says welcome, WER is new host, and has on the job experience WER
~KitchenManager #26
Oh, yeah, stacey, My! What language WER
~stacey #27
Did I offend your delicate sensiblities?
~KitchenManager #28
Not yet, but you can try if you like. WER
~terry #29
Really, give it the old college try, Stacey, what a challenge!
~KitchenManager #30
FYI-The results of the Chronicle's Restaurant Poll should be in this week's (Nov. 7) issue. WER
~stacey #31
Is that the est of Austin" issue?
~KitchenManager #32
Nope, that issue has already come and gone. WER
~KitchenManager #33
It'll probably take me a couple of days, but I'll stick in the readers' and the critics' choices in the correct topics, where applicable. wer
~stacey #34
Ambitious of you! Let us know how we can help *smile*
~terry #35
WER did great!
~stacey #36
Thanks dude!
~KitchenManager #37
So, stacey, anything else ya want to know about me before we meet and eat?
~stacey #38
[1~That you're feeling better.
~KitchenManager #39
The bronchitis thingy? It's pretty much cleared up.
~stacey #40
I didn't know you could get bronchitis in your brain? Imagine that!
~KitchenManager #41
Didn't think that's what you were talking about... At the moment, yes, but who knows when you work with your affliction... Am glad you're back, again, and am startin' to gets anticipatory 'bout yo visit.
~stacey #42
Me too! We'll be in Austin sometime after the 26th, I suppose I'll call the restaurant?
~KitchenManager #43
Suppose so, number is 345-5761 If your e-mail link works, and you check it, can give ya me home number, too.
~stacey #44
Only have email at work so's ya best give it to me soon! (ooh, just WHAT did she mean?!?!?)
~terry #45
Be sure to call me when you get in, Stacey.
~stacey #46
will do Paul. You listed?
~terry #47
Yep, on the webpage. 303-4000.
~stacey #48
I had fun!!!
~KitchenManager #49
as did I...
~KitchenManager #50
not getting on your nerves yet am I, Stacey?
~stacey #51
After this week, I have no nerves left... can you say frazzled? I thought you could.
~KitchenManager #52
Hugs and kisses in all the right places, and a long, soothing massage...
~stacey #53
oh man. sadly enough the massage sounds better than anything right now. It isn't often that my sex drive falls victim to stress but 'fraid tis true today.
~KitchenManager #54
No problem...just lie back, I've got the oil right here... My, you are tense, here, let's try this...
~stacey #55
whew... this is making me sit up straight!!! sorry i dropped off last night -- 7pm meeting and it didn't end until 9:15. After all that I only wanted to go home!
~KitchenManager #56
No problem, you're relaxing remember, now, lean forward a little so I can get to your lower back... *long, slow, powerful strokes* Here, this is in the way, mind if I take it off?
~stacey #57
please do!
~KitchenManager #58
There, much better, no? I think this might be in the way, too. May I?
~stacey #59
certainly
~KitchenManager #60
Thank you. There was this one trouble spot that I couldn't get to. You're starting feel a lot looser, most of the surface tension is gone. Now I can get to work on those knots. To get the right leverage, I might seem to be getting a little personal...let me know just before I go too far, okay?
~stacey #61
(really need a massage today) (huge tension)
~KitchenManager #62
School?
~stacey #63
yes. (yesterday) yes. (today)
~KitchenManager #64
Anything I can do to help?
~stacey #65
you already provide the best listening... the rest can't be taken care of virtually
~KitchenManager #66
Then, once again, I wish I was in da hood, and I'm always willing to listen, Stacey. Hope today turns out less stressful, hon.
~stacey #67
I took a personal day in the afternoon and sorted a few things out. Feel much more centered now!
~KitchenManager #68
Cool.
~stacey #69
and happy. I feel good today. I'm sending you a hug, mostly because I finally feel really strong and capable again but also because I'd like to see you smile! *hug*
~KitchenManager #70
You could, too, now without the beard and long hair... *reciprocation* *eye wrinkles*
~stacey #71
(like the eye wrinkles) *smile*
~KitchenManager #72
*blush*
~KitchenManager #73
so, what else you want to do to get to know each other, Stacey?
~stacey #74
*smile* let's tickle each other and see who has the most control (put up a good front WER, I like a challenge!)
~KitchenManager #75
You're on...I'll take that bet... simultaneously, or are we taking turns?
~stacey #76
gotta be simeltaneously...
~stacey #77
and what's with the time and date?!?!? Paul?!?!? tis freaking me out!
~KitchenManager #78
well, just so you know, there's only two spots where I'm ticklish, so to be fair, we'll have to be nekkie...
~KitchenManager #79
on second thought, I concede, you win. wouldn't want to appear not to be a gentleman. *wink*
~Wolf #80
am gonna hound you til you talk *grin*
~Wolf #81
(jist kiddin' *hugs*)
~KitchenManager #82
do what thou wilt is the whole of the law
~KitchenManager #83
Has everyone quit with this topic? Ain't seen no action lately (including my own, I must admit...) whether it be good, bad, indifferent, or licentious.....
~stacey #84
here i am! (feeling licentious?!?!?)
~KitchenManager #85
I don't know, are you? (or should that be, Do I have permission to check for myself?) Glad to have you back, Stacey!
~stacey #86
*smile* not feeling 'back' yet, but good to 'see' you again.
~KitchenManager #87
fair enough... *wink*
~terry #88
wer, did you notice anything new when you logged in to this conference this time?
~stacey #89
like your name in lights...
~Wolf #90
and bet you never thought that would happen-well, here's your 15 minutes worth of fame! *grin*
~terry #91
Wm's still in stunned silence over this.
~KitchenManager #92
you know that's right!!! (thanks, guys...)
~KitchenManager #93
Now, post something!!!!!!! (uh, please?)
~stacey #94
again, I can only see response # 93... is your request/command to anyone in particular and what is the thread?
~KitchenManager #95
You mad at me? anyone in particular current thread was everyone's bruhaha about me becoming host in here satisfied?
~KitchenManager #96
(my apologies, Stacey, for the attitude... your words struck me wrong because of the mood I was in)
~stacey #97
whoa nelly! no harm done (especially as I read #95 and #96 on Monday!) I've a whole list of problems with you being host but I'll keep them to myself!) *smile*
~KitchenManager #98
Really? Do go on...
~KitchenManager #99
Am still waiting for that list of problems you have with me being host in here, Stacey...
~stacey #100
purely personal... we can work them out later!! *smile*
~KitchenManager #101
That is one of the nicest things you've said to me in recent memory...
~stacey #102
your memory is short! *smile*
~KitchenManager #103
be that as it may... hey, everyone, any ideas on how we can inspire acitivity in this conference again?
~stacey #104
ummm... eat out more?
~KitchenManager #105
you always have such excellent suggestions, Stacey!
~stacey #106
*laugh* Feeling kinda goofy...
~KitchenManager #107

~stacey #108

~KitchenManager #109
buon appetito!
~riette #110
Hi all! Yeah, me. Have I told you my sex restaurant story yet? Feel free NOT to read it, but it's true. When I first came here five years ago now, a nineteen year-old straight from the Namibian bush, I was walking through the streets of Zrich one day, and felt in the mood for some ice cream. Not noticing that the colourful candles in every second shop window was actually plastic neon lamps in the shape of willies, or that I was in a redlight district, I popped into the nearest place that looked like it might have some ice cream. First thing I noticed as I was placing my order, was that there were only men in the restaurant. Second thing was that they were staring at me. I thought, $hit, what?! Never had a whole room full of men stare at me all at once. Then the banana split came . . . with an upright banana . . . and no spoon to eat it with. So I called the waiter. I got a little bit worried when he seated himself beside me, explaining that these bananas don't get eaten with spoons, and that telling me something about how 'good' I was. Didn't understand what he meant, so I asked him to explain himself. And he said something about 'dusguishion' - disguise, it turned out to be. (I did not speak German back then.) So I asked him again what the hell he was talking about. Then he grabbed my crotch! Turned out to be a gay bar of course, and he thought I was a transvestite!!!!! Foul, hey?! But I guffawed when he told me!
~stacey #111
roflmao!
~spew #112
Lookit me! Telnetting over AOL...albeit slower than the web...
~terry #113
How'd you figure it out? Are you using SecureCRT?
~KitchenManager #114
nope...some 16 bit combo package of WinNet and FTP Pro that I finally found a reference to working with AOL...
~riette #115
My grandma is doing well too, thank you.
~TIM #116
Was your grandma sick?
~riette #117
No. I just thought I'd mention it. Yours?
~TIM #118
One grandmother dued in 1981. The other one is recovering from a bout with cancer, and actually doing quite well. She is 97 and still out and about on her own. She has no problem dancing to rock music, and her eyesight and reflexes are still excellent.
~TIM #119
I meant to say died in 1981.
~riette #120
It's okay, my computer does that too sometimes.... Your grandma sounds cool! My grandma is 71, and an old bitch - love her!
~TIM #121
My grandmother is kind of set in her ways, but she has always been that way. I wouldn't describe her as a bitch though. She's just a little hard headed.
~riette #122
No, mine's a real bitch. She gossips, lies, trashes people behind their backs, blackmails them, lives excessively in every respect - I find it very amusing! She has 'strictly confidentially' promised her fortune to my brother, my sister, and me, because 'the other two aren't worth it'!!
~TIM #123
I had a grandmother like that. After she became an invalid, and was confined to a nursing home, I gave her a series of police whistles, to attract attention when she wanted help. The staff had no sense of humor. they kept taking the whistles away. So, I started bringing her three and four at a time. When she died, the staff had taken away over 200 of them, Some people never learn. Toward the end I was also supplying whistles to 3 other patients.
~riette #124
ha-ha! Whistler Tim - THAT'S what they'll call you someday!
~aschuth #125
I would like to invite all visitors of this conference to the International Conflicts conference here on the Spring: http://www.spring.net/yapp-bin/restricted/browse/InternationalConflicts/all This new conference is dedicated to the disputes between groups all over the world, be that social, cultural, political or ethnical differences.
~MarciaH #126
And...after they have posted in your conference I hope they visit and post in Geo...wherever they might find something of interest. http://www.spring.net/yapp-bin/restricted/browse/geo/all/
~sprin5 #127
Hi, I'm your shot takin' restaurant critic, what would you like to order tonight? Care for something to drink?
~MarciaH #128
Whatcha got? (Terry, I am laughing so hard at some of your posts. I did not know you had a personality like that...I though you were mild mannered and quiet. Are we seeing your alter ego? This Terry is so much fun...let him out more!!! Oh - I am an ice water drinker - I am funny enough just the way I am!
~sprin5 #129
Ice water coming right up. Crushed ice or cubed? We only serve the best, purest spring water.
~MarciaH #130
Barton Springs, of course! Charming wait-staff you have here... I am enchanted
~MarciaH #131
Oh, and cubes are just fine, thank you!
~sprin5 #132
Cubes it is.
~MarciaH #133
Have a sliver of lime to poke in there? Not necessary of course, but it does make the water taste wonderful - even if it is not straight-from-God Hawaiian water. Mahalo Mucho! This place deserves 5 stars for accomodating staff, for starters!
