Creating a killer website is only part of the battle.
The rest is getting it seen. One of the ways to do this is to "submit"
your url to sites like http://www.submit-it.com

http://www.smartage.com/submit has a free submission service which works
for about 7 engines.
http://www.selfpromotion.com has a similar service and beaucoup info
about getting ranked by the search engines.
And the Spring itself has a submit it page, admittedly needing updating.
