Hello,
I confirm the Jens answer about the english mails. I'll send him some questions in english about the 480 because i dont understand very well th german language.
Thank you Jens for this topic.
I introduce me: I'm french and i live near Paris. I've got a 480ES (Version 109ch). I've made some modifications, e.g the lights side (front and rear).... I'll talk about later if anyone want some informations.
I want to answer a question about the part "Die Bastelecke" of the Jens web. If you want to make some noise (bass) with your 480, you must make a 15mm wood board to replace the rear boot. You can put any kind of speakers and woofer. I placed two 25cm three ways speaker of Kenwood directly connected to the car radio, a ALPINE TDA 7552R(4x35W) + ALPINE S604 CD Changer. The changer is between the 2 rear seats. In the front doors i've got the original speaker with tweeters separately. In the rear side panel i
ve got original speakers + tweeters plug in a amplifier 2x35w, it's enough for this speakers. This amplifier is under the passenger seat and connected to the car radio line out. So the sound come from the front, the middle and the rear of the car.
You can believe me the sound is wonderful. It's a auditorium, only with car radio 4x35w + amplifier 2x35w. The power is not important if the speaker are very good. Ok, now if i want to go on holiday, i must suppress the board.

The wood board lays on the back and uses the brackets used by the original sheet. The board is blocked by the brackets near the rear seats and the rear of the car. It follows the boot lines. I put on the board a special audio sheet.
If someone wants a picture of this, i can send it.

I am very interested in buying a Volvo 480 (pre-owned), since to me, it is
the finest car I've ever seen.
Please can someone tell me something about any differences between the ES and
the S version? What am I missing if I buy the S version, if anything?
I already know all about the Turbo version!, but perhaps it consumes to much
fuel. And I am primarily interested in the wonderful shape of the car, not
in raw speed or performance. (BTW, it seems from italian specialized newspapers
that these differences are very small, due to a certain low-tuning of the turbo
engine).
I thank you all, 480'ers!

Hi Marco , the only difference between
ES and S is the year of build. I Believe
The S ( = Sport) startet in 1991.
Ps. Please tell my more about the
Newspapers , is there much in it about
the 480 .. ?

Then is the S more recent than the ES? Good to know to me. I have seen
a wonderful 480 S in an unusual, beatiful metallized (?) color: a kind
of mix between blue and purple.
Of the italian newspapers, the best is surely "Quattroruote". I found
extremely valuable informations in the following numbers (I consulted them
in a public library): December 1987, May 1988, June 1988, April 1990.
Other informations are also in March 1987, but on this, I'm not sure.
However, this monthly newspaper is all in Italian: do you understand our
language?
In case you own a 480 ES, can you tell me of any major problems with it,
if any? Thank you very much.
