An interesting subcategoty of the recording industry. This is the list of such songs/recordings I know of: "Hell Is For Children" : Pat Benatar "Luka" : Suzanne Vega "Behind The Wall" : Tracy Chapman "The House" : Ice-T Any to add? I thought I knew five, but I can't remember the fifth.

10,000 Maniacs did one, but I can't remember the name, oh, it just came to me "What's The Matter Here?"

Never heard anything by 10 000 Maniacs or Traci Lords. What kind of music d they do?

10,000 Maniacs, you know, before they broke up and got a new singer. Natalie Merchant got smart and is doing just fine on her own. Traci Lords (a porno star, right?)

Wasn't she the lead singer of 10 000 Maniacs? Or was that Toni Childs?

She was, Natalie Merchant I mean, but don't know who their new one is. Only came out with one tune so far, heard it maybe twice, then poof........

I meant Traci Lords/Toni Childs/whatever the hell the name of the two-headed woman on the album is! Never before heard of Natalie Merchant. Heard extremely little of 10 000 Maniacs (apparently, the little I heard was wrong!)

well, natalie's great i think... haven't heard any of the new 10,000 maniacs stuff, without her (though i can't imagine what the point is...big brother was a pretty decent band, but would you actually want to listen to them, sans janis?)... and, yeah, tracy lords was a kiddie porn star (and i'll leave the 2-headed reference COMPLETELY alone)...

I remember seeing a CD by someone named Traci Lords or Toni Childs or some bollocks like that that had a two-headed woman on the front. Unfortunately, the shop had closed while I was away, and I cannot abide the other music shop in the plaza, they play dancehall DJ non-music and attract insufferable followers of this genre. It is interesting that a discussion about a kiddie-porn star turns up in a topic about songs about child abuse! I seem to remember the back of the album saying something about her and the group 10 000 Maniacs.

Sam, you haven't heard 10000 maniacs In My Tribe? Oh, and the MTV cd is really good. For NM by herself, listen to Tigerlily, very good. Has Wonder, Carnival, and Jealousy. She's such a wonderful communicator in her work, can't believe you haven't heard of her (or them). And, taggin along with Nick, Tracy Lords was a porn star turned b-rated bimbo. She was in Cry Baby with Johnny Depp and (oh god, that gal with the talk show, what is her name?) But, do not know who took the mike as lead for 10000 maniacs. So Sam, go to your local Blockbusters Music Store and ask to hear something by them, it's free.

I know of two Blockbuster stores. Both of them are in Queretaro, QRO, Mexico. I am currently in Kingston, Jamaica, where them's things don't exist!

ok, how about going on the net, CD Universe Main Frame, plug in the name or song you want to know about, it'll pull it up, and if you have audio, you could play one of 'em. (I work with a gentleman from Jamaica, he is such a warm person, very good heart).....

Toni Childs is worthy, Sam. Try House of Hope (album title) first because Woman's Boat might scare you off right away.

O.K., if I ever see it.

I'd try and send you an audio clip but my connection is only at work via a Telnet connection on a Mac (collective groan) and all my audio 'stuff' is at home.
