We need more conferences like drool!

We need more "niche" groups to come join the Spring and start conferences like drool, austen, bronte, etc. What other niche groups are out there that we could invite to join us? And how can we contact them?

How about a Furtwngler conference? It would certainly make for a bit of controversy. Apparently there is a huge Japanese community of Furtwngler fans. But I don't have a clue where to find them.

Or how about a 20th century History conference? There are alot of World War 1 and 2 freaks out there - me included - and alot of other mega interesting things happened in this century. It is what most historians specialize in. And it should be fairly uncomplicated to find people to take part.

Please, Riette, no! You don't want this place rushed with militaria fanatics, and the like, do you? Expanding through Historic Epochs generally sounds good, though. Until now, the only thing available is for middle age, right? How about recruiting more artists? Everybody could be lured by the chance to get their stuff posted without trouble, and get their own topic in an Artists conference?

I understand the need for a Furtwngler conference...or topic, anyway. I have just about all of his recordings...with the Amsterdam Concertgebow ... We need to patronize the conferences we have now. Go in and read the new posts and see what interests you. I try to get all over the place (yes, I know...and bore everybody in the process)...and some have just poked noses into Geo and have not entered the Volcano topic or the gems ones...all are interesting, but are they that off-putting? I should nave named them EARTHQUAKE!!!! and ERUPTION!!!! rather than seismology and vulcanism...oh well! (climbing down off my soap box...)

Okay, there needs to be set up a history conference with Riette and Alexander as hosts, right?
~MarciaH Mon, Sep 27, 1999 (22:15) #6
It is the middle of the night for Europe...wait a few hours and they will answer you...

All history sounds great to me, Conf Admin. I'm interested in all history, and it will be cool to look at it at every possible angle - whether that be art, music, philosophy or militia (which DO6ES play a big role in history, whether we like that or not) from the particular period. I'd love to be host, but my knowledge is pretty much limited to the 20th century, so I'll have to rely on freaks of other periods to help out. Alexander, are you one of those???
~MarciaH Tue, Sep 28, 1999 (16:22) #8
I will be delighted to post a lot in there. If I could have figured a way to make a living at it, I would have majored in History - but I did not make a living at what I studied, anyway, so I just took lots of history for my electives.
~MarciaH Tue, Sep 28, 1999 (16:26) #9
My knowledge is mostly concentrated on the Middle Ages, (Archaeologically, earlier than that) up through the Reformation. Most especially, Britain.
~riette Wed, Sep 29, 1999 (13:09) #10
Sounds great! Stacey, Wolf, Autumn? How stand things with you and history?
~stacey Wed, Sep 29, 1999 (13:45) #11
ummm... i like pieces and bits facsinated with Pompei, really enjoy medical historical information, World War history... I do not resemble a 'history buff' but I have no real aversions... (how was that for politically correct?!) BTW... I'm concerned about Autumn... has she washed away??
~terry Wed, Sep 29, 1999 (13:51) #12
Any have a phone number or email for her? Hope she's high and dry.

Thought provoker: Aren't there some conferences that should be deleted?
~terry Thu, Sep 30, 1999 (15:58) #16
Suggest some.
~MarciaH Thu, Sep 30, 1999 (16:05) #17
He's not gonna say Geo, is he? I am a one-woman band in there and trying ever so hard to make a go of it...short of hijacking people to post in there. Very discouraging, but now I am part of SpringArk and working on stuff for History. Please don't delete Geo!
~riette Thu, Sep 30, 1999 (16:13) #18
Let's start with things that have had NO responses. I saw some when I put History on my hotlist, like Farraway.
~MarciaH Thu, Sep 30, 1999 (16:16) #19
Yup - just noticed a few myself. Has anyone ever posted in ViridianCuria?
~terry Thu, Sep 30, 1999 (16:35) #20
farraway is Mike Griggs thing. We'd have to check in with him about nuking it.
~infospryte Thu, Sep 30, 1999 (17:13) #21
And ViridianCuria is an Alexander project. What about these? austentest eff hammer hoa newtest nh song
~MarciaH Thu, Sep 30, 1999 (17:35) #22
So Sorry, Alexander...I had forgotten...
~infospryte Thu, Sep 30, 1999 (17:46) #23
And maybe these confs, as well: deeper modjane peacemaker
~MarciaH Thu, Sep 30, 1999 (17:48) #24
Modjane and peacemaker were discussed previously as possible dead conferences. Deeper...don't recognize!
~stacey Thu, Sep 30, 1999 (17:50) #25
restricted access...
~MarciaH Thu, Sep 30, 1999 (17:59) #26
...ah!
~terry Thu, Sep 30, 1999 (21:01) #27
All those can get nuked.
~riette Sat, Oct 2, 1999 (02:13) #28
A thing with restricted access that nobody posts in??? How restricted can access possibly get???
~MarciaH Sat, Oct 2, 1999 (13:01) #29
curious, huh?!
~riette Sat, Oct 2, 1999 (13:09) #30
Totally. It's like horse pretending to be a cow, but refusing to moo.
~MarciaH Sat, Oct 2, 1999 (21:59) #31
*laugh*
~autumn Sun, Oct 3, 1999 (16:23) #32
LOL! I missed you guys!
~autumn Sun, Oct 3, 1999 (16:23) #33
LOL! I missed you guys!
~MarciaH Sun, Oct 3, 1999 (16:30) #34
Probably about as much as we missed you...*smile* Isn't it amazing how we can be away for a while and drop something relevant into the discussion as soon as we return?! We must think along the same lines...!
~autumn Sun, Oct 3, 1999 (17:18) #35
We don't miss a beat, girl!
~MarciaH Sun, Oct 3, 1999 (17:33) #36
Right on! *hugs*
~wolf Sun, Oct 3, 1999 (18:12) #37
ok, i'm here. maybe we should delve into the realm of video games like pokeman and nintendo. all i know is the kids around here can't seem to shut up about pokeman and the cartoons. my son gets out of bed an hour early to catch the show!
~wolf Sun, Oct 3, 1999 (18:13) #38
and autumn, we're so glad you're safe! *hugs*
~MarciaH Sun, Oct 3, 1999 (18:24) #39
Oh man...I can't help you at all, Wolfie...never even seen what these games/shows look like...No one in that age group around me!
~wolf Sun, Oct 3, 1999 (18:31) #40
pokeman is along the lines of sailor moon--the japanese animation thing.
~MarciaH Sun, Oct 3, 1999 (18:39) #41
Yeah...I've seen the pics of the pokeman stuff, but that is absolutely all I know about it...Help!!!
~wolf Sun, Oct 3, 1999 (18:41) #42
well, if we start a conference for those things, please don't make me host, i'm clueless, really!
~MarciaH Sun, Oct 3, 1999 (18:42) #43
make that two of us...
~MarciaH Tue, Oct 12, 1999 (16:16) #44
I need help and/or suggestions for attracting people to Geo Conference. http://www.spring.net/yapp-bin/restricted/browse/geo/all What do I need to do besides Shanghai them and chain them to the topics until they give it a chance? It is a neat place. Cool topics like volcano eruptions and jewels and ecology with attendant photos and graphics and weather maps which update automatically - for all parts of the world! I just added two new topics in hope that it might attract some traffic: Caves and other Subterranean Features http://www.spring.net/yapp-bin/restricted/read/Geo/19 Introductions and Suggestions http://www.spring.net/yapp-bin/restricted/read/Geo/20
~terry Wed, Oct 13, 1999 (09:21) #45
Find related websites and get the webmasters to post direct links to your conference. Grab the url and send it to them ina press release email.
~MarciaH Sat, Oct 16, 1999 (00:29) #46
We tried to find the perfect webring and succeeded. When we tried to register, we were told it was locked. I have not seen one as good as the one we wanted...and still looking. I will follow your suggestions...thanks, Terry!
