What are your favorite vegetarian restaurants?
~KitchenManager Sat, Nov 8, 1997 (01:27) #1
readers say: Mother's Cafe and Garden
~terry Sat, Nov 8, 1997 (08:46) #2
No arguments. Sadly, Martin Brothers has closed their doors (pass me a hanky please). Jeff Martin is the guy with the monks outfit with a hood and two birds perched on his should in the Springs currently running front page slide show.

Oh, that is sad. Maybe you went around and told too many people they took you're favorite item off the menu! I liked that place off of 26th street, east of I-35 that had their own garden... the best chipotle-artichoke enchiladas!
~terry Mon, Nov 10, 1997 (11:37) #4
What place was that?
~stacey Mon, Nov 10, 1997 (12:00) #5
Martin Brothers

This year, Chronicle readers say: TIE: West Lynn, Mother's Cafe and Garden Runners-up: Mr. Natural, Veggie Heaven Honorable mention: Eatside Cafe, Manga, Central Market And the Critics Poll says: Veggie Heaven
~terry Thu, Nov 12, 1998 (19:44) #7
West Lynn and Mothers are owned by the same folks. Mr. Natural isn't in their league or even close. And Martin Brothers shut down, otherwise they would have been a contender.
~stacey Fri, Nov 13, 1998 (09:50) #8
is the Eastside Cafe still around?
~KitchenManager Fri, Nov 13, 1998 (09:51) #9
Yessum!
~stacey Fri, Nov 13, 1998 (10:38) #10
MMMMmmmm. Artichoke, chipotle enchiladas were my favorite! And they had great carrot cake!
~jgross Fri, Nov 13, 1998 (11:21) #11
great hopscotch games outside, too, on the sidewalks between 2:00 and 4:00 in the afternoon different colored chalk, differently drawn squares, goofy doodlings and kids from all walks of life lotta times they'd laugh when they was talkin' that's why I went there
~KitchenManager Fri, Nov 13, 1998 (11:41) #12
and, as long as I'm here... Chronicle readers picked the best vegetables at Threadgill's Runners-up: Eastside Cafe, Mother's Cafe and Garden Honorable mentions: Good Eats Cafe, Veggie Heaven, West Lynn Cafe, Luby's and the Critics Poll rated as the best vegetables... Did we leave you speechless, Tami?
~riette Mon, Nov 16, 1998 (04:02) #15
No, I think Terry did....
~TIM Mon, Nov 16, 1998 (07:41) #16
I was wondering when Y'all were going to figure that out.
~riette Tue, Nov 17, 1998 (01:26) #17
We always get there eventually...
~TIM Tue, Nov 17, 1998 (05:09) #18
That's true. I just did not want to say anything, at first, because I live in the same house, and I thought it might be a breach of privacy.
~KitchenManager Tue, Nov 17, 1998 (20:55) #19
and, actually, we have ways of finding things out...
~TIM Tue, Nov 17, 1998 (21:57) #20
Well I'm glad it's out in the open.
~riette Wed, Nov 18, 1998 (01:42) #21
What is? No, just kidding! The thing with Terry is that one practically has to drag everything out...
~TIM Wed, Nov 18, 1998 (01:48) #22
Well I almost posted it, but thought better of it. I figured it would come out sooner or later. specially when she was using his logon from time to time, when she forgot to sign him off, and sign on, before using the same computer.
~riette Thu, Nov 19, 1998 (01:49) #23
Not to mention the pure chemistry oozing from their every response...
~TIM Thu, Nov 19, 1998 (02:05) #24
That too. Although I had missed that, you ought to see it from this angle. she has him wrapped around her finger, she decides to do something, and he just goes along with it.
~riette Fri, Nov 20, 1998 (01:21) #25
And isn't that JUST the way it should be?
~TIM Fri, Nov 20, 1998 (02:26) #26
Yes, and no. When there has been enough history in a relationship, for mutual trust to develop, yes. When one partner is following the other around like a puppy dog, No.
~riette Sat, Nov 21, 1998 (01:02) #27
Yes, that is a good point. I wouldn't like that. Takes away the challenge.
~TIM Sat, Nov 21, 1998 (01:02) #28
True, but you'd find challenge. Somewhere. Because you are not the type to be content with a complacent lifestyle.
~riette Mon, Nov 23, 1998 (01:35) #29
Nonsense, I'm the most homeley woman you've ever met, I bet!
~terry Mon, Nov 23, 1998 (07:10) #30
There she goes again. Simply not the case.
~riette Mon, Nov 23, 1998 (07:45) #31
What??? I'm not going anywhere! I my sense of humour THAT pathetic??? How are you doing, Terry?
~terry Mon, Nov 23, 1998 (07:53) #32
You have a great sense of humor, ree ree.
~riette Tue, Nov 24, 1998 (01:40) #33
Thank you, Master. How have you been, Terry? I take it your silence is due to lots of love making?
~terry Tue, Nov 24, 1998 (05:48) #34
Pretty perceptive Ree! I'm working excruciating long hours too, stacking up hours so I can take off a couple of days at Thanksgiving.
~riette Wed, Nov 25, 1998 (01:56) #35
Where are you going?
~terry Wed, Nov 25, 1998 (05:24) #36
To dads place in East Texas.
~riette Wed, Nov 25, 1998 (11:18) #37
Well, I hope you have a really great time.
~sprin5 Sat, May 20, 2000 (05:38) #38
We did had a good time as I remember, Ree. And a better time on our last visit. My sister Alice was there with her husband Don and dad talked about with exploits in the War (WW2). He's put golf on the shelf for a while while he heals up his leg. Back to vegetarian. Martin Brothers closed. But Mothers still trucks on. I need to revisit the East Side Cafe, it's moved way up in the Chronicle Restaurant poll and features it's own home grown produce.
