Isn't it obvious? Intellectual masturbation is quite a common, boring thing. Like, say you're very interested in dinosaurs. Then, to feed your mind with knowledge on dinosaurs will be very exciting for you. So, when you find out everything about dinosaurs, reading every book, looking at every picture of dinosaurs - that's intellectual masturbation. Ray loves creating topics. So, the act of creating topics is for him an act of intellectual masturbation. Everybody does it all the time!
