So what conf's. do you want folks to host; existing ones or new ones we dream up? And how much does it pay? :-)

Everything here except austen, media and food, which have hosts. Pay depends on the amount of traffic and quality of comments you can bring in. Most of our paying stuff is building websites for folks.

ummm, how about parenting or homeschooling? Those are the only things I know much about, except how to play in rock bands for 20+ years without dying or being killed...

I could start a parenting conference like we had on the old Spring. It got a good bit of activity before. Would you be interested in hostint a 'parenting' conference?

Being a host would mainly mean checking in and keeping the flow of conversation going. And a super host would go out and find other websites to add links to their conference.

The danger of playing in rock bands isn't limited to dying or being killed. I learned this from playing jazz a while. What is more likely is impaired hearing, and going mad. well, (drymartini), my wife gave me that name long ago when we were kids. We used to drink a cheap wine called MD 20/20 (made by mogen david), but we just called it maddog. The maddog era was a short one, but the name stuck, I guess because I was always a bit of a rebel and a risk-taker, so the "mad" part was still appropriate. Yes, you do tend to get a bit deaf and mad in the rock venue, but never locked up so far... ...so, no need to run that virus program on my account. But what about that online name of yours? Are we to assume that you are nursing a drymartini while you defrag your hard drive? And what is your real name, if you don't mind my asking. Oh yes, and I asked earlier, what is your business. She's fine. I got 5 new room mates at the new place. Pays the bills! And they're all fine folks.

That sounds like alot of fun. So you take turns doing the cooking, and cleaning and all that?

Yeah, the group here is really fun. Everyone gets along and the place stays real clean. Beth just cruised in from Houston. There's a couple, Mark and Mercedes (she's from Honduras), Kristen is the most organized so far. And Bill is a pretty cool guy, kind of shy. Kristen's friend Jaylin is coming by to stay a couple of days, she's a 27 year old skydiver. And my son, Shey, just stayed for 10 days. Got to do a lot of swimming and baseball watching, movie going, basketball playing, etc. It's really a fun place, the pool has been a real great thing to have with this hot summer. It's a big house with lots of rooms, just like my place in Cedar Creek, so it makes life comfortable for a group of folks like this.

WOW, the good life! We got our flat long before we even planned marriage. It was rather nice and big back then. Then I had a baby, and it became a little smaller, but hey, it was okay. Then I had another baby, and it became more of a little smaller - sigh. Now we have the little guinea pigs on top of that, and it's just bloody small!

I still don't really know what to do as a host, besides posting stuff and creating new topics (which everybody else does, too, and I did before I was made a host). We need to educate hosts to be a great community.

But to educate hosts, we need to have someone who knows what they are doing...

Can we do kind of hosts roll call? Would the hosts here mind telling everyone what conference(s) they host and what's going on there?

i host science, which is a moribund conference, and philosophy, which is showing signs of life.

I host MUSIC, which occasionally is lively lately, InternationalConflicts, which is kinda, hmh, laying around, waiting for worse to get better (traffic-wise, strictly traffic-wise) and ViridianCuria, which was created too late to meet the window of opportunity I saw for it... I'll try revive this later this fall. Meanwhile, I still haven't seen some useful infos on how to rig still so it looks cool (like GEO or FOOD). Admitted, I don't have a lot of time, at least I post regularly. I started a bunch of topics in CULTURES, which occasionally are lively, too (like the VIOLENCE CULTURE topic, among others).

As to missing knowhow, I've given up in April trying to find out how to post pics. Running after folks asking everybody and getting no satisfying reply after weeks got me to abandon that.

You use an img src tag which is a left angle bracket, then the words img src then the equals sign the a quote then the url of the image (which you get by right mouse clicking on it and getting properties) then another quote and then a closing angle bracket. That's how in words. I host Geo which has lots of important brains lurking but none posting. There are the faithful who come to check what I have been doing and what is the state of our planet. It needs to be in the public directory of your space in order to be seen by the web. I do not know of any shared directory. My graphics are on my little space assigned to me when I became host of Geo.

If you need a shared directory here, I'll give you an account on access. Otherwise you can refernce graphics from any place on the web in your tags. Just use the img src tagv which I explained the other day.

What's geomagnetics?

Invisible magnetic lines on the earth (I should post the NASA shot of that) which direct everything from a compass when you hike to birds when they migrate. I needed a title which went with the rest in the conference so I used geomagnetics. Dowsers use it to discover water...sacred geometry and Feng Shui use it, as well. Pop in and take a look! The Archaeology is going great too - and I have a really great gal pal from Boston logged in and posting. She's the one who works for Lucent Technologies... Geo is a happening place. Y'all come!

Nope but I figured it out, as you know. They have a great faq and I found out I needed a little third party ICS configuration tool to make it work. Now, to figure out how to cool down the echo . . .

What they call Satellite echo over here is a little distracting and almost as loud as you were. Let me know how you did it when you find out. Still, it was so exciting to talk to someone live and in Texas. I was flying all day after we succeeded in making the-way contact. YeeHAW! (I learned that from the mean TCU fans last weekend!)

Did someone with dialup call me at 5:45 am today? House male is most upset. I think it was someone else because our caller ID just said Unknown Name Unknown Number...whereas before at least I got the number so I could tell it was from Texas... We are 4 hours EARLIER than Texas! When the call was made here at 5:45AM it was 9:54AM in Austin.

This host needs major help. When spring crashed it took my rc file with it. I, with Wolf's help, put the rc file back on and the Visto banner is ok, but my buttons do not show up but my amazon.com does not and I have all default stuff (which is fine but not right ...)

Thank you humbly and profoundly for helping me. I worked and worked for 4 solid hours on it and the rc file is complete and functioning. No inhouse applause, of course, but that is they way it always is. I have copied it to file so I shall not have to do this again the hard way...and if I had not had such a splendid and patient teacher in the first place, I would never have been able to do it. *deep bow* in recognition of his wisdom, and *Hugs* of appreciation.

The Spring didn't crash, thre's one file called /tmp that occasionally fills up and it doesn't allow anything to be written to the disk. And I forgot to bring my cell phone in from the car last night, so your calls were ringing in an empty van. I apologize for not responding sooner. As soon as I got your message about 10:45 pm last night I knew it was that /tmp file.

If anyone can figure out how freezing the spring deleted my entire rc file, I would certainly appreciate knowing so I can prevent it happening again. Again, thank you to the magician who restored my conference to its glory!

(At the time it happened, I was just changing hex numbers for font color and was not changing anything in the structure of the commands. Could hitting the "change this file" at the moment of Spring's freeze-up have been the cause? Whatever it was, I now keep a copy printed out and on file so I can copy and paste it back to order as quickly as Spring unfreezes, shold it happen again! Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

wer 'o land, how has it been going as host of food? Are you able to change settings and get around ok? Since you were last here, we reinstalled on a new machine and we are going to be doing that again this year. Going to a new, more powerful machine. Arriving today is the hardware to build 2 FreeBSD/Linux machine and 2 Windows 2003 machines. I know, it bites to run a Windows Server, but I gotta do some prjects that require it.

Need a little help, as I broke the rc file for the cooking conference... Can it be deleted by someone with access, please? That should fix the problem. Thanks!

It's still broken. Terry is all you have to do is clear the rc box? it should be easy enough (she said after being rescued enough time from her own mistakes)

Just go in, by like say ftp, and delete the entire rc file for the conference.

ok doing it now. ok I cleared the rc file out, wiped it clean, and created a backup called rc.bak. Clever, eh?

so can we get into the conference yet?
