Hamburgers. What the best joint?
~KitchenManager #1
Chronicle readers say: Hut's Hamburgers

Wouldn't know. Great veggie burgers I hear.

Excellent veggie burgers!
~terry #4
I'm just not a hamburger expert.

Speaking of... when is Fuddrucker's going to get on the veggie &/or Black bean burger craze?
~terry #6
Like I said I'm no expert.
~stacey #7
Yeah, but you like to pull strings.

Moi?

The 2000 Austi chronicle Restaurant Poll picks Hut's as the best hamburger joint in Austin. I agree. And I order their veggie burger when I go there. These guys know how to make burgers and the place is packed. I've never been to burger tex but Mickey McInnis KB5YAC would probably say this joint is the best, judging by the frequency of trips he makes there. Runners up are Dirty Martins and Fuddruckers. Fuddruckers gave me my worst restaurant experience ever in Austin, it was the closest I've come to food poisoning and my date got really sick. And her kids got sick. Obviously and isolated instance, but there must have been something they served that night in the salad that wasn't good. Then we have the "honorable" Dan's Hamburgers (I think they serve breakfast thre too), Fran's and Casino El Camino.

And yes, Dirty Martins is like it sounds.

If Dirty Martins is like it sounds, I'm not even gonna ask about Fuddukers. The scary part is that they made the best of list. I shudder to think of what the ones are like that did NOT make the list. Do you have a state inspection for cleanliness in Texas? Sheesh! You know, the guys with the certificates and the power to close you down...
~sprin5 #12
They do inspections and the best and the worst every week end up on the news. The best get like a 90 something and the worst get a score in the 40s or 50s. Fuddrukers is very mainstream, family/kid oriented. It just feels like a lot could go wrong when you're in there. It's on my list of places to avoid, along with, I think I mentioned some of these places elsewhere in this conference.

Yes, I noted - and I'm with you. Do they ever print Dept of Heath citations or even close places down because of filth. It is done so appallingly rarely over here and I KNOW some places are absolutely disgusting. I will not even enter their doors!
