This topic was created because the ladies were occupying the men's topics.
~MarciaH #1
This is for those ladies who do not want to enter the rarified atmosphere of Drool, but have valid choices of their own for the Male Babe topic. Since mwn tend to whine and avoid anything sullied by female drooling, Here is where we enter our choices: 5.Denzel Washington (in Hunt for Red October) 4.Sean Connery 3.Harrison Ford 2.Laurence Olivier 1.Colin Firth
~mrchips #2
Drool runneth over still.
~MarciaH #3
But it is not on the female topics...not all women are Drooleurs, after all, and some do not want to be. I am ambiDroolstrous, thus I am adding a few more to my list until someone else comes and posts something...besides a grouchy male who has more ladies of choice and has met more of the famous and gorgeous than is his allotment... 6. Alex Trebek
~MarciaH #4
I can kill this topic if anyone finds it an irritant or irrelevant or just in the way...just say and it will vanish forever.
~wolf #5
5. david duchovny 4. david duchovny 3. david duchovny 2. david duchovny 1. my husband *grin*
~MarciaH #6
5.Colin Firth 4.*** 3.*** 2.*** 1.*** If we are being honest here. If I have to fill in the stars, you do not deserve to know.
~mrchips #7
Actually, I'm enjoying this...I didn't know I was grouchy...I guess my former rapier wit has dulled!
~mrchips #8
Unfortunately, I only get to meet the famous and gorgeous without being either myself. Once in awhile I'm lucky enough to get to party with them, if the party is in a hotel room. I cannot afford to dine or shop with them unless they want to eat at Burger King and shop at K-Mart. As for Tia Carrere, she was only 11, and I swear Officer Hemming, I never laid a hand on her!
~MarciaH #9
Ahem...well, considering your good record up to this point...I'll let you go this time. At least you are not bowled over by some self-congratulating academic only to have this same high moralist pin you in a corner later and make obscene suggestions to you...!
~MarciaH #10
No, you were not being grouchy...You do not get grouchy, do you? Don't ever remember your being so. But I did feel that you thought we were encroaching on all-male territory, and I know how you guys like to scratch and spit and make bodily function noises which women are not allowed to do...I just did not want you to feel uncomfortable, Dear!
~mrchips #11
LOL!...You may remember, Roseanne did all of the above when she murdered the national anthem about a decade ago,
~MarciaH #12
How could I over-look this most eligible of Male Babes? (And these are no longer in order of preference or babe-worthiness... 7.Paul Terry Walhus, our estimable leader. (I have seen his picture, so I know.) Roseanne - You're right about that. Yeeesh!
~mrchips #13
All right Terry! You make it into the male babes site on a woman's mention! TNT is showing a Sam Elliott triple feature today. I wonder what any of the women here think of 'ol Cowboy Sam? I had a girlfriend in Honolulu over a decade ago who went weak-kneed over him.
~MarciaH #14
8.Sam Elliott......I noted his picture on the front of the TV section of the Trebune-Herald and thought I should put him in here. He is so neat and laid back and has this incredible voice...!
~MarciaH #15
The next two are on a whole nuther level... 9. John Burnett 10. Ray Lopez Both of whom make for a lot of hugging, I would imagine =)
~mrchips #16
I'm way beyond zaftig.
~mrchips #17
~mrchips #18
Sam does have an incredible voice. I was so happy that the Beef council hired him to do their TV voiceovers (long) after Robert Mitchum died. It's a no-brainer!
~riette #19
1. Anthony Hopkins 2. Billy Connely 3. Liam Neeson 4. Sean Connery (his voice gives me the shivers) 5. Antonio Banderas
~stacey #20
i can only pick five?!?!? good call Ree-head with Liam Neeson... woo woo!
~MarciaH #21
I think I have about 10 on my top 5 list...Who's counting, anyway?! Oh yeah...Liam Neeson...! I think I might also add my top "5" in the sexy "intellect" category (not just a hunk). That is a real turn-on for me!
~mrchips #22
I thought Liam Neeson was a great Jean Valjean in "Les Mis" (the NON musical!)
~MarciaH #23
Indeed!
~riette #24
A most gorgeous specimen. Homo Sapahunk.
~mrchips #25
That may be the name of the species Hitler was going for with his WWII eugenics experiments.
~stacey #26
... he was certainly going for something homogeneous but... well... he obviously had some catastrophic brain fart to go about it the way he did... or he was pure evil...
~mrchips #27
I'll take door number two, Monty...
~MarciaH #28
I think those were Homo Sapihuns that were being created by the evil 3rd Reich
~riette #29
unbearable stuff
~stacey #30
lest anyone get the wrong idea... Hitler, yes THAT one, has NOT been mentioned in the context of the title of this topic... something about babedom-status and committing human atrocities just doesn't seem to jive to well...
~MarciaH #31
...mental scribbling...How did HE come up in the first place, she asked knowing full well... 00. Mike Griggs for that scrubbed Brit look which runs rampant through my family they way it does throught his. And that number is because I lost track of my numbering system. I should categorize them, most likely... *sigh*
~autumn #32
Riette, is Billy Connelly an actor? What has he been in? Chris Noth Jimmy Smits Al Pacino Tom Hanks Jeff Goldblum Is this my final list? I reserve the right to make additions/deletions as others occur to me...
~wolf #33
of course, changes can occur according to mood. did i forget liam neeson? loved him in everything i've seen (and les mis was great with him!). oooooh, jeff goldblum, what is it about tall guys that makes you wanna climb all the way to the top? christophe lambert (didn't forget the "r", it was written that way on some interview i read) ummmm, andy garcia, billy zane (all i've ever seen are bad guys, but he does voices for disney), the guy who played dracula, he was intense (oldman or something like that), matthew mccaugnahey (sorry for the sp), john malkovich, shall i stop now? the alpha male isn't tall but don't they say big things come in small packages?
~mrchips #34
Gary Oldman...also played Beethoven in "Immortal Beloved"...do any women find F. Murray Abraham sexy?
~MarciaH #35
Yes....I do - I am an intellect-first person.
~wolf #36
i don't know who he is. but the intellect factor works for me too, which is why dd is so hot!! (i am a smile first person, mannerisms (and that doesn't mean manners, either)
~MarciaH #37
Wolf, you are my twin somewhere, for sure. DD is wonderful. F Murray Abraham plays character roles like Salieri in (sheesh...can't think of the name of the movie!) about Mozart a few years ago.
~mrchips #38
Abraham won the Best Actor Oscar for his portrayal of Salieri in "Amadeus." It is the only role most people remember him for, but he was also Noah in "Muppets in Space," Lot in "Noah's Ark," Al Capone in both "Dillinger and Capone" and "Baby Face Nelson," Abraham Lincoln in "Dream West," and Colonel Caleb Cobb in Larry McMurtry's "Dead Man's Walk." He is indeed a first-rate intellect, and maybe the finest screen actor most people never heard of or barely know. He has worked constantly for the past 30 y ars, but most people can only remember Salieri. A fine role, even if history has treated Salieri both unkindly and unfairly. Unfortunately, he'll never be as well known as DD or Sir Anthony Hopkins, but as an actor, he's Hopkins equal and DD's superior.
~MarciaH #39
Thanks John - I know you'd come through for me. That's why I like you so much. You have intellect and charm.
~mrchips #40
Blush...
~MarciaH #41
'Tis Saturday night - no one would notice...Do you really actually blush, John? Hmmmm....
~mrchips #42
With my ruddy complexion, who can tell? I guess the "Saturday night and no one would notice line" should go into my "lament" as you call it, in another conference!
~wolf #43
remember amadeus....
~MarciaH #44
Thought you might. I knew about FMA's other roles but did not think many people would remember them. I neglected to take into account John's encyclopedic knowledge (much better than my own) - but realized that on these Topics, with all of the brilliant minds wandering around, that would be taken care of for me.
~MarciaH #45
(Oh, John - you are breaking my heart with post 42.) *BIG HUGS*
~autumn #46
Did I omit Daniel Day Lewis?! Please replace Tom Hanks with him immediately.
~aschuth #47
Any gal fancy Johnny Depp? Load of women I know would rather go to a movie with him in it than anything else... ANYTHING! I JEST NOT!
~stacey #48
saw him in Astronaut's Wife yesterday (thanks AW wolfie *GRIN*) yeah... yeah.. yeah...
~riette #49
Al Pacino, Jeff Goldblum!!!!! OH BABY!!! Johnny Depp????? Alexander!!! What women have you been asking? I mean, NO WAY. The guy is too pretty. Rugged, unpretty and unshaven - that's a MALE BABE. Autumn, Billy Connely is an incredibly crude Scottish comedian - rugged, unpretty and unshaven, with a voice like a crow. Just gorgeous. His famous joke is about the guy who committed all the mortal sins every day in a small town, and everyone knew about it. Sundays in church the priest would point a finger at him, and preach about the sinners who would go to hell, where their clothes would burn into their skin, their heads would be scorched in the fire, their whole bodies would be consumed in the fire, and still they would cry, 'I didn't know, I didn't know!' But this guy continued his wicked ways. So, one day he gets run over by a car, and dies. Sure enough he lands in hell, where his clothes were burning into his skin, his head being scorched in the fire, his whole body being consumed by it. He looked to God on the other side, and cried, 'I didn't know, I didn't know!!' And God said, 'Well you fuking know now!!!' He did appear as an actor in Mrs. Brown, opposite Judy Dench though. I thought he was brilliant and mega-sexy.
~wolf #50
isn't AW supposed to be a scary/horror flick? had heard that the 13th warrior (or whatever) with antonio banderas (another hot one) was really stupid. anyone been there yet? ddl-whoa baby, last of the mohicans!! *wolfie drool*
~MarciaH #51
Oh yea...on the LOTM and ddl. whew!!! I adored Mrs Brown, and what a great-looking Babesicle that BC was in that movie. Funny story he tells, even if it is crude!
~wolf #52
haven't seen mrs brown. is it available on video?
~MarciaH #53
I am sure it is - we rented it when we saw it...
~mrchips #54
Billy Connelly also replaced Howard Hesseman as the teacher in the 1980s American TV (ABC) sitcom "Head of the Class." I think his role lasted for one year, but he was quite funny. He used to irritate the writers by ad-libbing better lines than they had written for him.
~MarciaH #55
I can believe that!!!
~autumn #56
I know who he is now--I saw him in that hilarious send-up The Impostors last week (on video). I could never drool over Edward Scissorhands. Gilbert Grape, maybe.
~MarciaH #57
Sorry I missed that last week - perhaps they will show it again...hope...hope. uh...no. No Edward Scissorhands...yeesh!
~riette #58
I always look at the titles of sex films showing in the city, because they're so hilarious. One of the funniest ones I remember was 'Edward Penishands' - his condom must have fitted him like a glove!
~MarciaH #59
*lol* I definitely lead a sheltered life. I never see movie titles like that. Is that where you got the inedible gray condom in foods that should not be?!
~mrchips #60
Favorite porn film titles: Fleshdance, Flesh Gordon, Jurassic Pork, Bright Lights, Big Titties, Rumpleforeskin, Saving Ryan's Privates, Willie Wanker, Blazing Paddles, Wankenstein, Big Dick Tracy. But I never see them either--just laugh at the titles.
~MarciaH #61
I have a suspicion (having done a little research for my own edification)that the titles - and they are wonderful - are better than the movies themselves...at least, better than the acting!
~mrchips #62
What acting?
~mrchips #63
My favorite x-rated Christmas opera is The Messiah's Handel.
~riette #64
guffaw
~mikeg #65
[puts on host cap] I've got to say that this topic isn't really relevant in Babes. There is a whole Drool conference for this sort of thing (as most of us have discovered). Unless there are any genuine issues with this then I'll freeze this topic tomorrow.
~riette #66
NNNNNNOOOOOO!!! We don't wanna go to drool!! We wanna stay here with you!
~riette #67
Besides, we're not drooling. We're just . . . speculating.
~MarciaH #68
Mike, there is a whole nuther feeling in Drool. I am a refugee from 3 years of it, and these ladies need this here...or you can move it to Geo or screwed or wherever... but not to Drool, I beg of you!
~MarciaH #69
(Geez...didn't he see that I had him on my list? Is he upset that it is not nearer the top (which my list does not have except for the very first one with the ***'s on it for ...*smile*)
~riette #70
MIKE YOU ARE NUMBER ONE ON OUR LIST!!!!!! Don't freeze yerself - post us a photo instead!
~stacey #71
are we liquid again??
~stacey #72
YEAH!!!!!! (thanks Paul for the info!) come on girls... we're babe-ing the night away!
~MarciaH #73
Thank you Stacey! Babe-ing at 6am is more difficult than I had imagined. My mind is blank, but that should come as no surprise!
~riette #74
My latest addition to my male babe list is Woody Allen; he's such a genius.
~stacey #75
definitely some sex appeal going on there, I'd have to agree...
~MarciaH #76
Funny you should mention him. I grew up with guys like him - nebbishes all, and found them fascinating to date and know. As to whether I could crawl into bed with one, that is entirely another subject. They have more hang-ups than a hat rack, and are almost always Mother-fixated...which does not ruin the fun it is knowing them....just knowing them that well!
~stacey #77
nebbish??? from the context I think I could come up with a rambling definition... I've never heard that word before!
~mrchips #78
Glad to see you women back in business! Other famous nebbishes I can think of off the top of my head: Paul Simon (the singer, not the former senator), Michael Tucker (L.A. Law), Peter McNicol ("Biscuit" on Ally McBeal), and Droopy (yes, the cartoon dog).
~mrchips #79
More nebbishes: Gary Burghoff (Radar O'Reilly in *M*A*S*H), Dick Cavett, Mel Brooks (an even funnier nebbish than Woody Allen, and has had a stable marriage to senior citizen babe Anne Bancroft for decades). A locally famous only nebbish is Marcia's and my favorite sociology professor, Alton Okinaka. Gary Sinise is not a nebbish, but plays one well (George in Of Mice and Men). Lt. Dan Taylor (in Forrest Gump) proved the incredibly talented Mr. Sinise can play the "anti-nebbish" equally wel !
~MarciaH #80
Dick Cavett can be on my Babes list anyday. I have been a fan of his for eons! Alton is Absolutely at the very tip top of my list. Any guy who has my creations hanging around his office has to be there! Is he the only PhD we can think of in the nebbish category?
~mrchips #81
Let me think. It would seem that the word nebbish was created for PhDs. Larry Heintz (UH-Hilo, philosophy) would certainly fit. David Hammes (economics). Certainly Alan Greenspan in his younger days.
~mrchips #82
Alan McNarie has nebbish looks and tendencies, but at 6'3" is too tall to be a true nebbish.
~wolf #83
boy am i glad this topic is unfrozen. actually had a new babe to add to my list and now i can't remember who it was! not to worry, it'll come to me one of these days....
~MarciaH #84
Me too...we NEEDED this...I had briefly considered Collecting/Male Babes and Geo/Gee..Oh...Male Babes but neither one seemed appropriate.
~MarciaH #85
How about Frank? I think he is perfect !
~MarciaH #86
Perfect for nebbish-hood, that is...
~wolf #87
who's frank? (did i miss that somewhere while you guys were discussing woody? he's not on my babe list)
~MarciaH #88
PhD's at UHHilo who qualified as lovable nebbishes...Frank is my ex, and I think a perfect candidate - shorter than I am, intellectual and dry humored but kindly to students - so kindly that one made off with him eventually!
~wolf #89
*oooops* be back later! see ya *hugs*
~mrchips #90
Frank fits. Don't know why I didn't think of him.
~MarciaH #91
...I was waiting to see if you would...I am sure he would be amazed to find this out, so we will let it be our little secret, huh?! *lol* I am not surprised to find that he is not on Wolfie's list!
~mrchips #92
I'll never tell...but I guess you did get in bed with a nebbish...nebbish-hood doesn't do it for everyone, I guess. For some, it's an acquired taste.
~MarciaH #93
I guess I just did not acquire the taste, unfortunately... He is a very good friend, but that is quite as far as I am willing to go.
~MarciaH #94
Geez...just don't tell David he son of a nebbish! How incredibly disappointing. Perhaps Frank has loosened up after this length of time and would be willing to try something beside the missionary...ALL the time!
~riette #95
Wolf, that one you wanted to mention, but forgot again was David! Is Frank the Frank from Millenium?? Marcia, I could defenitely sleep with Woody Allen, DEFENITELY. Except he'd be squished...
~wolf #96
*LOL* see you guys later!
~stacey #97
Oh... I could certainly develop the hots for Paul Simon... if I were to be that hottie-developing kinda girl...
~MarciaH #98
Do you mean David-the-Geologist is going to make somebody's Babe list? He will be flattered out of his mind, and quite amused! (His pic is seen http://www.spring.net/yapp-bin/public/read/porch/35.197 Frank is my ex...no fame other than being in American Men of Science (like Who's Who for scientists) as was my Dad (as was I - under children:3 in the latter case and married:yes in the former *smirk*)
~riette #99
You're going to have to post a picture of Frank then, aren't you?? I was talking about David Duchovny, actually, but David-the-Geologist will do fine for after-hours, thank you...
~aschuth #100
Hehe...
~riette #101
You agree, do you?
~wolf #102
i knew you were referring to dd *gush*
~MarciaH #103
I am not sure there is a pic of Frank (my ex) on the net, and I have no way to scan the ones I have. Will consult with the after-hours-morsel, D-the-G. He might be able to help...but I am sure he would not qualify as a Babe! Nice guy, but...
~aschuth #104
"...aw, I'm just like any mommie - trying to scare the gals away from the boy!" Hope not! Hehe...
~MarciaH #105
Not I! I am the sort who does not match-make, but makes whomever he brings home "to meet Mom" as welcome as possible. I have never lost an ex-girlfriend!
~MarciaH #106
Ooop, meant that Frank did not qualify as a Babe...David surely does!
~aschuth #107
;=}
~MarciaH #108
Thanks for talking to me, Alexander. You are the only male of my acquaintance who will today, I am afraid. Very discouraging!
~mrchips #109
Now stop that!
~MarciaH #110
This morning was not my best day, but it is getting much better, thank you. I shall and will stop it! *hugs*
~terry #111
Are males babes or, are they "hunks"?
~aschuth #112
Hunky-chunky babes?
~wolf #113
doesn't hunky men refer to the way they're built?
~riette #114
Hmmm.... I don't know, actually. But I never want to call a man a babe - I don't really feel like the mothering type around a thing twice my height and half my width.
~stacey #115
ohmigod... how COULD I forget Don Henley... ... his voice has always made my toes curl... and he's not too shabby to look at either!
~riette #116
Don Henley? I don't know that one.
~mrchips #117
Former drummer and lead singer for the Eagles.
~mrchips #118
Solo hits include "End of the Innocence," "(Sit Down) You're Rocking the Boat," "The Boys of Summer," "All She Wants to Do is Dance," "Sunset Grill," and my favorite "Dirty Laundry."
~stacey #119
you the MAN!
~riette #120
Sit Down You're Rocking the Boat is one of my ALL-TIME favourite songs!! And now I remember the guy's name, because the song was played in the opening credits of 'Leap of Faith', and it had his name on it! So that's it - count me in!
~mrchips #121
He is terrific.
~terry #122
Server's back up!
~stacey #123
You're my top male babe today Paul! Woo WOO!
~MarciaH #124
...and mine! It was a very long day yesterday, without Spring, but I did find some goodies for Geo to post. Thanks for whatever you did to get things back on line, and welcome to more temperate weather. Sounds like you are finally having fall (and poor Stace is freezing at 28....brrrr!)
~MarciaH #125
Hunkdom is in the eye of the beholder from each side. One I consider serious hunk material (ie, one who "does it for me") called me a liar. I asked if he doubted my truth or opinion and he said that he did...so, one does not have to appear to be a hunk to anyone but the nominator, it would seem!
~riette #126
Oh, so THAT's what was going on! I thought we'd moved URL or something and that I never hear from any of you ever again! Marcia, I thoroughly agree, and thus nominate John Malkovich for hunkdom.
~MarciaH #127
Amen! ...and those men who disagree with our adoration will just have to learn to live with it...*grin*
~wolf #128
you have it for john too? so do i!! it's his mannerisms or something, my goodness, that man can make my skin crawl!
~mrchips #129
Tell me about the rabbits, George.
~wolf #130
think i'm running out of room on my list but here's two more to add: brandon fraser the mummy
~MarciaH #131
One cannot run out of room on one's Male Babe's list...there are so many out there and each is worthy of recognition...it would be unfair to limit ourselves...don't you think?! But, there is still one who eclipses all others making the additional ones on my list w a a a y down near the bottom...*smile*
~aschuth #132
The Mummy - unhandy choice, what with all the bandages, no?
~MarciaH #133
...that was my thought...but I did not see the movie...
~mrchips #134
Brendan Fraser also has a wonderful sense of humor to go along with hunkdom. Is also deceptively smart although he is good at playing lovable idiots ("Encino Man," "George of the Jungle"). But what was he (and Albert Brooks) thinking when they made "The Scout"? Has to be the worst baseball film ever (even worse than William Bendix or John Goodman as Babe Ruth).
~wolf #135
nope, dooright is THE WORST!! the mummy's name is Arnold Vosloo. i think i'm in gaga over hamutem (or whatever the name of the character he played). my goodness, to love someone that much! *sigh* oh, and the mummy part ii will be out in 2000. arnold will be the priest again *big sigh* and ree will be glad to know that arnold is from south africa! (did you know him, ree? *smile*) i don't know any "accessible" babes, you know, it's one thing to fantasize about celebrities, but there aren't any hunks around here that do it for me. (AM is as close as it gets). i'm a sucker for tall built men. just want to climb all the way to the top. the AM is only two inches taller than me, but you have to remember, we wolves crawl around on four legs *grin* note: for future reference, i'll refer to the alpha male wolf as AM)
~MarciaH #136
Oh yes..yes...yes, me too...I like 'um big and sturdy 'cause I am slender and not-so-sturdy...and I too like to climb them...*BIG sigh*....
~MarciaH #137
..and theoretical ones can't break your heart the way real life ones can... Perhaps that explains the lasting power of Drool - we are safe in there and mostly cannot get hurt...except by each other!
~wolf #138
here's a pic of the mummy before he's mummified *grin* (and this wolfie likes to unwrap presents!)
~MarciaH #139
If you want to see cute, Wolfie, check Arnold's Adoration Page for some really good pix: http://www.angelfire.com/ga2/AESav/main.html
~MarciaH #140
OK, this is how gorgeous he REALLY is:
~wolf #141
*droooooooool* (sorry guys) oh, the pic in 138 was borrowed from the link i posted in movie queries---here ya go: http://www.elkhound.demon.co.uk/pictures/imhoteppics.htm
~MarciaH #142
Hey...(handing you a towel) I understand this drool stuff...been doing it copiously for ages now...*wicked grin*
~wolf #143
you know, these guys used to be somebody's neighbors when they weren't celebrities...wonder if they knew how delectable they really are (at least the potential?)
~MarciaH #144
...or imagine the snippy little number who turned him down for a date...only to discover how delicious he turned out when he was full-grown?! My son came back to Hilo one time after being at college and at work in Honolulu for about 5 years and saw the "little" girl he used to make go home rather than let her play with the "older kids." Man, is she ever cute now! He said, ..."if I had only known...!" Yup!
~wolf #145
indeed!
~MarciaH #146
I guess that is the best revenge of all - turn into a swan and return to your home town...or class reunion!
~mrchips #147
The "follically challenged" picture looks incredibly like Yul Brynner, who used to send my mom into swooning, drooling seizures.
~MarciaH #148
Same-shaped head...not spherical like Frank's...
~wolf #149
well, yul brynner doesn't do it for me, but this guy was incredible, he spoke egyptian too (what is the language of egypt?)...
~Irishprincess #150
(Wolf)(what is the language of egypt?)... That would be Arabic. I'm thinking about who my top 5 would be...I don't even know if there are five guys who could "do it for me." I'm very picky.
~wolf #151
amy, i thought as much! thanks for clarifying...i'm picky too and some of the guys who "do it for me" aren't what others find attractive either! but like i said before, as far as "real" men go, i don't know of any that could fill my list! (AM not included)
~Irishprincess #152
Let's see--I've thought of three so far: 1. Colin Firth (of course) 2. Joseph Fiennes (he is just so pretty!) 3. Colin Dunne (the Irish dancer) These are the guys on my bulletin board--as you can tell, I like them with dark hair and eyes! The sexiest man I've ever met in my whole life is a "real" man, but alas! is married. He isn't what most people consider attractive, but he has a rather nasty reputation that makes him kind of exciting. Do you find that to be the case, that men with bad reputations are intriguing, at least? One of my friends and I were talking about that, and we said that it seems to have always been that way--look at Valmont and Lord Byron for example!
~MarciaH #153
When I subtitled this topic "Who does it for you?" I meant various definitions of "it." The ultimate IT is reserved for the same one who occupies all first four places on my list...CF is 5th in this case, doing a different it...!
~MarciaH #154
As to the man who shares your heart but nothing else...like mine...I think they are interesting for the very qualities exhibit which are not the standardly accepted ones.
~riette #155
Wolfie, Arnold Vosloo is in fact an Afrikaner... I guess he was chosen for the role to add the 'humin tutch'. When he was still making appearances in appalling South Effrican Soaps, he was ALWAYS cast as the baddy. WHY WHY WHY??? He is the ONLY handsome Afrikaner male (apart from my brother) ever to have been born! I don't think I could exist with a person with whom I had nothing in common. What would I say to him after the sex was over?
~MarciaH #156
You mean there is a time when sex is over??? Oh No!!!
~Irishprincess #157
That's why I've never been able to understand "boy toys." Who could tolerate some airhead with whom you couldn't share your innermost thoughts and passions? I could never tolerate a man who couldn't discuss literature with me--it would be like we were from different planets or something. Some people think that sounds terribly snobbish, but I have to wake up with this guy for the rest of my life!
~wolf #158
that's how i feel. i don't want a "pretty boy" unless he can talk all the stuff i talk about. of course, i wouldn't want a brudishly ugly man either. but hey, who am i to say that. and who has time for sex? what's that again?
~Irishprincess #159
A friend of mine once told me: "We don't love people because we think they're beautiful; we think they're beautiful because we love them." So, I guess if you found your soulmate, you would think he was the most absolutely angelic man that God ever set down on the earth (especially if he knew his Shakespeare!)
~wolf #160
this is true!
~MarciaH #161
Indeed...*sigh*...but the wrong guy, nonetheless. Is there a worse Hell than that?! They are truly beautiful because of what they are, not how they look, but try to convince one of that!!!
~Irishprincess #162
Well, I think some of them do--I know a certain gentleman who, throughout most of his life, was teased, ridiculed, and humiliated in front of girls because he was bookish and not particularly handsome; but now, he's in a setting where everyone adores him for his brains, and he is obviously on a mission to prove everyone from his childhood just exactly how many women of quality he can get now. He's a Lord Byron if I ever saw one!
~MarciaH #163
Oh my! Hope he gets it out of his system before he reaches a lonely old age. I, on the other hand, know of one who went through the same childhood and is still feeling the pain and the scars are too fresh to not eat at his self esteem. It breaks my heart...
~Irishprincess #164
Oh, my best friend and I have decided that 98% of the stuff he does comes directly from insecurity about such a miserable (and impoverished)childhood. I don't think his wife is going to leave him, either--she is incredibly patient and either doesn't notice or doesn't care what he's doing.
~MarciaH #165
Sounds incredibly familiar...but mine is not a Lord Byron sort...not in the way yours is. Of course it is insecurity and self doubt...why else would he need that ego gratification from elsewhere. I do not envy his wife!!!
~Irishprincess #166
And the funny thing is that I tried to, in effect, turn myself into his wife...I dressed like her, wore my hair the same way, adopted her mannerisms, and everything in hopes of him liking me more. (BTW, I'm talking about the same person here that I'm talking about on "Poems of Loss.")
~MarciaH #167
(...as am I)... I seem to be the opposite of the other people in his life, and I think it was a pleasant surprise and he said a positive change for him...but...
~Irishprincess #168
I think mine really desperately wants children, but his wife is a bit too old to have them (although she just recently said, "If I ever have a child..." but she's 45,) so I think he was looking for a younger version of her to have them for him. It's just a theory.
~MarciaH #169
...Interesting!...do you think he is mature and secure enough to be a good father, or is it another ego thing he is after?! (mine has children)
~Irishprincess #170
Oh, I know he would be a very good father--the "thing" between he and I started out as a very paternal/filial relationship (he is older than my father by four years,) and he was always very sweet to me right up until the day he gave me the yo-heave-ho. I took my brother to see him a couple of weeks ago, and I 've never seen a grown man make such a big squealy fuss over a baby!
~MarciaH #171
For your benefit, I wonder?! *lol* sounds out of character from what other things I have put together in my mind that you have told me about him. (Do you think I should start a Relationships Topic somewhere?!)
~Irishprincess #172
I don't think it's for my benefit--I think he's scared to death that I'm going to tell her what happened (which I won't.) Maybe you should start a relationships topic--call it "What is wrong with men?!?" We seem to have taken over these two topics for the moment, haven't we? Would you like a visual to go with the image of him you have in your mind? I can email you a website address where you can see a picture of him attempting to look seductive (ha!)
~MarciaH #173
Do email me the website. I am most curious! I find it comforting to be able to talk to you about this since you state the things I am feeling and have had similar experiences. Checking in Philosophy for place to put topic (there is one in there already called Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus...shall we use that one or a new one?
~Irishprincess #174
Okey-dokey, I'll get right on that. I don't think the "Men are from Mars..." one is quite right--we need something a little more tragic!
~MarciaH #175
meet me in screwed 163 - I am waiting for you http://www.spring.net/yapp-bin/restricted/read/screwed/163/new
~wolf #176
wow! can i come? i think i need to learn a few things *grin*
~Irishprincess #177
You can only come if you have an absolutely pathetic story to tell!
~wolf #178
see my response in poems of loss (!!) which you've already done *grin* no pathetic stories except that my life is normal (i think), although some excitement once in a while would be nice (and i've had that happen once or twice, way more than i need to get me into trouble)....
~Irishprincess #179
Believe me, you don't want too much excitement in your life, because eventually you'll end up wanting peace and quiet again.
~wolf #180
*haha*
~MarciaH #181
Poor Wolfie has heard the story of my woe ad nauseum... and she has had them too. I guess all of the choice ladies have *grin*. Next, we need to add Nan who has been lamenting a very painful loss in Philosophy / Love...
~Irishprincess #182
Oh yes, invite her to come too. We need all of the lamenting intellectuals we can get!
~MarciaH #183
Indeed, and I think I know who is messing up her life - poor dear...! It is so easy to say the banal stuff when you are not wallowing in it yourself...she needs the comfort of fellow sufferers. I shall issue the invitation straight away!
~mrchips #184
I would like an otherwise unoccupied woman to discuss literature with me, but I'm afraid Austen and the Brontes don't do it for me. My women colleagues are all married and/or unattractive (and all are more concerned about comp than lit--understandable for high school teachers).
~wolf #185
i love literature, john, but am not an academic scholar in it. my fave classic authors of the moment are charles dickens and mark twain. both of them crack me up to no end!
~MarciaH #186
John, I am fondest of Tolstoy and the Eueopean writers of the 19th century - with the large EXCEPTION of Proust. I could not get through Remembrances of Things Past...or whatever it was when he was pining for his mother and the little cookies she fed him...tres weird. Which lit did you have in mind?
~aschuth #187
Re: Wolf's Response 149 - the language If he was playing an "ancient" egyptian", the language could have been a lot of things, even Koptic, Latin, Greek or the old Pharaoh's Egyptian (which's pronounciation has been lost through the ages), about which I don't know a thing. When was that scene dated?
~wolf #188
i'm clueless on that as well, but, have been hinting to my husband about purchasing the film (which does show dated subtitles), so i will let you know as soon as i'm able!
~aschuth #189
Or read the book...
~MarciaH #190
...when all esle fails...
~MarciaH #191
...or all else fails...
~mrchips #192
You already know my poetic taste. I'm not a lit scholar either...Twain is still my favorite American author. And I can get bashed as a sexist for this, but I love the visceral, stripped-down minimalist style of Hemingway. I don't know if he was misogynist, although I've kept hearing he was. Certainly, I was sympathetic to Brett (more than Hemingway was) in The Sun Also Rises. I'm surprised that I like Henry James, but I do. I know Austen was a major influence on him. Dickens ranks up there on my list of English novelists. So does George Eliot. I have mixed emotions about Joyce (I know he was Irish). I couldn't make it through Ulysses, but was moved to tears by The Dead. I like the shorter, later Tolstoy things with redemption as theme, such as Master and Man and The Death of Ivan Ilytch. I've read War and Peace and Anna Karennina, though. I believe there's good reason the former has become a metaphor for overlong, and the latter is just too damn tragic. I knew she was doomed from the second she saw Vronsky. I love some of Dostoevsky, especially The Brothers Karamazov. I know the father is a tragic figure, but I laugh when I read h s misadventures. That got me into trouble in a Russian Lit in translation seminar with my favorite lit professor (now deceased). I still think he's funny, intentional or not. Crime and Punishment gave me war flashback nightmares, so the violence in there was certainly effective. I would not have wanted Raskalnikov as a shipmate. This is "Top Five Male Babes?" Sorry! *sheepish grin*
~MarciaH #193
You are in the right place - and your babe picture is newly posted on Spring Gallery in a sharp-focused grey-scale photograph in which we can really see what you look like! http://www.spring.net/yapp-bin/restricted/read/porch/35.403
~mrchips #194
I'm sorry the photog who took that pic retired. He actually made me look good. Thank you.
~MarciaH #195
Who took it? (I can use all the help I can get. Too bad he retired!)
~mrchips #196
A nice elderly Japanese-American gentleman named Roy who used to have his studio in the Waiakea Villas. I'm told he retired to California.
~wolf #197
to whomever told me to read the book (the mummy), no thanks, i just wanna see arnold vosloo again and again and again!! as to literature: there is a book topic and we could move this discussion there. but, i enjoyed wuthering heights, great expectations, the diary of adam and eve, the awakening-hated the ending (chopin), and several others. my dad loaned ulysses and the iliad but couldn't get through either one. oh, and the hobbit, and a few others by twain were really good. don't know why he and dickens crack me up. love twain for the way he writes like folks talk and the use of ethnic slander does not offend me because understand why it was used (even if, during those times, it was also considered taboo). why they wanted to ban the book is beyond me (huckleberry finn). a friend (nick) emailed some selections by twain of which i've read and still have around somewhere, but don't remember the titles. oh, and i have a huge book with the collections of edgar allen poe, because he cracks me up even though the stuff he writes is scary. (i did have a pit and pendulum dream at one point in my adult life). and am working on jane eyre, but because of my (many) other interests, it's sitting on the shelf (not literally, however, it's still in the paper sacks we put all the books in to facilitate the installation of new carpet)....to be continued!
~MarciaH #198
Roy Nagata, John?! Excellent man! It is too bad he retired. We are left with Reed and Jay and that is about it excepting for the department store packages... Wolf, it is not a good day if I don't have three or so books going at once! I know the feeling!
~Irishprincess #199
I wish I had time to read what I want! Right now, I'm trudging through Benita Eisler's biography of Byron in an attempt to learn something useful to my thesis, but I'd really like to cut loose and read a historical novel like I did over the summer!
~MarciaH #200
My absolute favorite kinds of books are historical novels. I can get lost for days and weeks in them...!
~mrchips #201
Reed and Jay are nice guys, but I'm not impressed with their photography. But you're right...they're it in Hilo now that Roy has retired. They could have never done that portrait. I always come out looking flabby with a deer-in-the headlights stare in their studio.
~Irishprincess #202
Really? What authors do you read? I got on an Elizabeth Chadwick kick over the summer, because I find the Middle Ages so interesting. I also like reading about Eleanor of Aquitaine (Ellen Jones' "Beloved Enemy" is quite good,) and I devour anything about King Arthur.
~MarciaH #203
I usually perfer Thomas Costain type books and have replaced Mitchener and Tolkien as favs for Mary Stewart's Merlin Trilogy plus the ones which followed...plus I got lost for a while in Aruthuriana with The Mists of Avalon and NOrma Lorre Goodrich's books on the central characters - all excellent and good reads. I also do a lot of archaeological reading - both journals and dig texts. If the Library of Alexandria did not go to heaven when it died, I don't want to go, either (says here now that I am not lose to going!)
~Irishprincess #204
All of my friends have copies of "The Mists of Avalon" with the covers taped on because they've fallen off from being read so much!
~MarciaH #205
I guess I fit right in with all of your friends because mine looks like that, as well. We'd better move this to another place like screwed again, so we can let the other ladies get back ont topic and admiration of worthy gentlemen...*sigh*
~wolf #206
ok, *ahem* may i say that i actually saw a real-life babe guy today? i was bagging groceries (it's something my squadron does once a month) and he came through my line. but wouldn't you know, somebody else had my attention once i bagged up his stuff? we shared eye contact though. i looked at him and thought, i can't wait to get back to spring where i can tell everyone and he looked at me like, man, i hope she doesn't put my three items in a big paper bag!
~Irishprincess #207
Don't you hate that? I hate it when I unexpectedly see a guy I haven't seen in ages, because it never fails that I have on no makeup, my hair is a disaster, I have on some old sloppy clothes, or something like that.
~aschuth #208
hehe, so now it's Dave D Dave D Dave D Alpha Male 3-Items-Shopper for you?
~MarciaH #209
Amy - guaranteed about how you look when seeing a guy you fantasized about - in my fantasies I am killer attired and coifed...in reality it is probably just as you say...alas! Alexander, Aloha! Do you really think that is the order in which Wolfie would put them?! You forgot Bert, who daily tells her that he loves her...*smile*
~MarciaH #210
And...not on - topic...Stacey is now Mrs Tinianov and honeymooning in Greece! Much Aloha, Stacey and Brandon!!!
~aschuth #211
Bert? What have I missed here? Are Mr and Mrs Tianov passing through Frankfurt Airport (once more)?
~Irishprincess #212
Yes, it is true. I had a huge crush on a guy 10 years older than me when I was 13, and I babysat for him until I was about 16, and then didn't see him again until I was 19 or 20. And when I did see him, I was at the grocery store without a bit of makeup on, I was grubby because I'd been cleaning house, and my hair was in a ratty ponytail. He looked impeccable, as always. I should have just dropped my cauliflower and ran away, but we did end up having a very nice conversation.
~wolf #213
did any part of that conversation include "i don't usually look this way..."?? alex, my list has been much edited so now it's: 1. Bert 2. David D. 3. Arnold Vosloo 4. Harry Connick Jr. 5. AM
~wolf #214
oh, and congratulations to Stacey and Brandon!
~wolf #215
oh and 6. 3 item dude
~wolf #216
i might have to change around numbers 5 and 6 since AM would wonder if i was gonna put the milk on top of the eggs, not what kind of bag he would get! *grin* (see, he thinks this wolfie is airheadish and cannot think for herself sometimes)
~MarciaH #217
"I don't usually look this way" is the first thing out of our mouths after "Oh! Hi...*gasp*" My musical chairs positions on the Babes lists is due to current conditions...with one always at the top, of course...and one hanging off the bottom - no matter how far down I shove him...*smirk* Amy, I had a crush on a guy for whom I was babysitting his younger siblings and his parents did not trust him with them yet...They should not have trusted him with me...He was three years younger than I and much more developed than most guys his age with an appetite to match... But there was nothing done, "really"...not as they do in the 90's...! *sigh*
~wolf #218
k, here's a topic just for us to discuss literature: http://www.spring.net/yapp-bin/restricted/respond/books/22
~MarciaH #219
...or if you prefer yours Arthurian: http://www.spring.net/yapp-bin/restricted/read/books/23/new
~wolf #220
ok, ladies, i'm watching another show that arnold vosloo starred in: diary of a serial killer. he's got hair in this one and even though he's playing a bad guy, that man is fine!
~wolf #221
here's a link: http://www.arnold_vosloo.amazed.com/main.html
~wolf #222
oh, and a pic from the mummy. this would be of imhotep (vosloo) and the pharoah's mistress. http://www.elkhound.demon.co.uk/pictures/anck/plotting.jpg
~MarciaH #223
Because you are dear and precious, I am looking at a serial killer with hair... Great eyes! Thanks for the link and their links!
~MarciaH #224
You slipped the Imhotep in under my last post. I know you are hooked on this man because you actually spelled his character's name correctly this time!
~wolf #225
*squealing with delight*
~MarciaH #226
*lol* (pulling up my bobby sox and fluffing out my poodle skirt to join you...)
~wolf #227
you know, the man IS happily married and has only been a citizen of the U.S. since 1988. he'll be in The Mummy II coming out next year as THE MUMMY! he doesn't have much of an internet following as some other actors do. probably because of his aptitude at playing bad guys. but, the mummy wasn't about that. it was a love story and he was the cursed romeo. he's been in darkman, red shoe diaries, protegy, and a whole bunch of other films that didn't gain the hype that he most certainly deserves. out of he two movies i've seen so far (mummy and diary of a serial killer), the mummy is my fave. (you'd never guess that though)
~wolf #228
well, i must say, all this drooling, er, babe observing has worn this wolfie out. i'll see y'all later *hugs* (and thanks for putting up with my obsession)
~MarciaH #229
My pleasure - he is a Colin Firth type...you really have to hunt for his devotees at firthst but when you do find them...watch out for the Drool. It gets really deep really fast! Any time you need a sister to drool with , here I am! *hugs*
~MarciaH #230
Your obsession?! You'll never (not much *lol*) guess whose Babe topic I really wanted to open, but thought better of it...*sigh*
~Irishprincess #231
I know who I'd like to make a topic about, but I'm afraid I'd end up talking all by my lonesome!
~MarciaH #232
Unfortunately I would not, and might spill over into email and sordid episodes. Hey, I would not let you drool all by your lonesome...!
~Irishprincess #233
You're a gal's best friend, Marcia!
~riette #234
I like his eyes alot - really nice eyes. Very attractive male that one.
~wolf #235
which one? amy, you'd be surprised. who is it? do tell!! *on pins and needles*
~MarciaH #236
...a personal acquaintance of Amy's, no?! (A rather delicate situation, dontcha know...)
~wolf #237
gotcha!
~alyeska #238
1 Colin Firth 2 Mel Gibson 3 Robert Duvaul (sp) 4 Tommy Lee Jones 5 Sean Connery I loved Robert D. and Tommy L.J in Lonesome Dove. Sean Connery is great in anything as is C.F.
~alyeska #239
Not only is Robert Duvaul a great actor but ohhh mama can he tango.
~wolf #240
he can tango? are we talking the same rd? i'd chalk up tlj as a babe but rd? hmmm........
~MarciaH #241
*lol* Lucie...Colin Firth is firthst on your list?! Imagine that!
~alyeska #242
Of course he firthst. Yes Robert Duval can tango up a storm. He was on Oprah one day not too long a go and did the tango with a young Latin beauty. Believe me he put many to shame. He shold do a movie where he can dance, made me get up and do a little tango by myself, though it would have been better with him by all means.
~riette #243
ha-ha! You've just made the FILTHIEST thought enter my head!
~MarciaH #244
Oooh...I looked and thought and looked again and nothing occurs to me...whisper and tell me...! Please!...
~MarciaH #245
Oh...OK! Think I got the idea if it concerned her solo "tango"....*grin*
~wolf #246
*ohmy* well, i certainly believe you lucille!
~riette #247
Yes, Marcia, I was half thinking about the sort of tango one does with Mr Hand and his 5 lovely sons upon viewing a hunka-man like that. ha-ha!!
~wolf #248
but in HER case, wouldn't the HAND be Ms? *blush* marcia, d'ya think anybody would mine it too much if i made a topic dedicated to arnold over at drool? because i was thinking, you know the websites totally dedicated to the man are few and far between and, y'know, i could invite them over here and drool with the rest of us!
~MarciaH #249
Do you mind if I email and pave the way for you? I think it would be lovely, but even I would not attempt such a thing without running it by Karen and Heide first. Diplomacy and all that...*smile* (Gonna do it right now...)
~MarciaH #250
Just sent an email. I think Drool is like the Sports Conference. I tried to create several topics. I was unable to, so I had to plead with Terry to create them for me, which he graciously did. I think they will, as well.
~wolf #251
ok, thanks, marcia! yes, i too, didn't want to impose my topic on them! but i can't wait until they do!!
~MarciaH #252
They will, I am pretty sure of that. Drooleurs are always welcome. Look at Charlotte and Kevin Costner. (I hear Ree's mellow voice now on Spring...now if we could only see her on one or the other of the places. Love your background music, Ree!
~KarenR #253
Was expecting to see a pic of Arnold here? ;-D Wolf, what would you like the topic to say under his name? Heide's our chief cook and topic creator. I've never done it...she admits semi-sheepishly...baaa
~MarciaH #254
Want me to do it? Wolf and I cohost SpringArk and she did her topics in there, and I did Geo all by myself (including telnetting to link two conferences to Geo as well). Wolf also has the poetry conference and Collecting conf. If you don't mind, could we wait till she gets my email tomorrow and does it herself? She lives in Loozyanna, so is probably asleep now. She has pics of AV and a place on Spring's hard drive to store them. Let the drool flow (she did put pix of AV on here back several posts. Lots of them! It is very easy to create a topic...it is an awesome feeling!
~MarciaH #255
...come to think of it, I created THIS topic!!! (and one in Books, food, travel, screwed, and probably others, as well...!)
~wolf #256
karen, thank you so very much for taking in my idea via marcia! she was so good to talk to you about it for me!! if you don't want to go searching for AV's pic, i'll find it and post the response number....
~wolf #257
karen: here's the link-- http://www.spring.net/yapp-bin/restricted/read/babes/47/222
~KarenR #258
Thanks, wolf. Why don't you go ahead and start the topic on Drool. Don't know if topic creation is limited to Heide and myself.
~wolf #259
thank you, thank you, thank you!! will do right away *smile*
~MarciaH #260
I cannot believe that no one has lusted, admired, wished furtively or otherwise looked twice appreciatively at the tall, hunky sex since last year! My top 5 still consist of ***'s replacing the former 5th place Colin Firth. (Waiting to see who notices...) *** *** *** *** ***
~MarciaH #261
Wolfie, we shoulda spent V-day here! Atleast real men are mentioned herein. *grin*
~wolf #262
the kind who show their appreciation for the fairer sex in the kindest, subtlest ways which are truly noticed and cherished *hugs*
~MarciaH #263
*chills* of recognition...Indeed! ... *hugs*
~MarciaH #264
The closest male I know who still speaks to me with any regularity is now on Oahu but I can hear him on my radio. We (UHHilo Vulcans) are playing basketball on Oahu (Honolulu) and this is as close to the game as I can get. Besides, I am the only one alive on Spring and if I don't write anything there won't be anything to read. *sigh* I miss someone...Much!
~sprin5 #265
We've gotta figure out how to get more folks here, Marcia.
~MarciaH #266
I know for a fact (admitted to me personally) that when I post on more than just one or two topics, I get a bunch of folks following me around to keep me company and to read what I am posting. If it gets interesting enough they jump in if I am lucky. I am working on one new poster (got him a login and password so there is not excuse!...except for the need belatedly to finish college!) I will think about how to do it and get a few "followers" to post if'n I can...Any suggestions? *smile*
~MarciaH #267
Let's see. We could always tell the first 10 posters they get free virtual seat cushions or whatever they do at beaseball games to attract crowds. A virtual evening with MarciaMarciaMarcia??!
~MarciaH #268
Pehaps I can promise them an active lave flow in their back yard if they post here - or if they don't post in Geo? They'll never have to mow the grass again!
~MarciaH #269
Better yet, I'll take them on a hike they will never forget. Watch black sand beaches forming, watch hills being taking shape, watch molten lava cascade down a black-velvet hillside while you listed to the whales breathing just off shore. All this and warm trade winds scented by tropical flowers. Any takers?
~wolf #270
poor marcia, here all by herself!
~MarciaH #271
Not really, Wolfie... You are here! And, we are now linked elsewhere! Yippee!!!
~MarciaH #272
Oh yes, and a kind person stopped by to comment that we gotta get more people here...so I made the above offers...*sigh* No takers, yet...!
~wolf #273
well, we build it, they will come.
~MarciaH #274
You betcha! I was posting around in Geo last night and was followed to see what I was doing...by at least one charming person. O'course, there was little else to do here at that hour other than to catch up on posts from w a y back. Getting some intersting subjects tossed out for nibbles in our newest joint venture. And, the Space Shuttle decided to take Hawaii's Picture and the download is amazing in TIFF - you can see detail on the runways at Honolulu International Airport!!! **** still the crowning glory of my list...*sigh*
~wolf #275
i thought i read somewhere the shuttle was gonna do some mapping. cool!
~MarciaH #276
Yup! Geo 5 (my long-languishing Cartography topic) contains the latest stuff. I cannot wait till they do our island....I keep running outside and smiling upward and waving every 90 minutes...hoping, dontcha know...*grin* They're gonna do you, too, Wolfie, so you wave back! Tres cool, no?!
~autumn #277
My current top 5: Chris Noth Jimmy Smits Jeff Goldblum Al Pacino lil' Ricky Shroeder (*sigh*--what can I say? I'm hot for cops...)
~MarciaH #278
*lol* Autumn! You mean THEY are in trouble if they stop you?! Nice choices
~MarciaH #279
I think I'm gonna have to add Lance to one of my lists if he keeps being as charming as he has of late...
~wolf #280
i like jeff goldblum too! david duchovny is in another movie....can't remember the name or who he stars with. saw the poster at the movies this weekend (saw snow day with the kids)...
~autumn #281
Unfortunately, the cops around here don't look anything like the ones on TV! Poor Ricky S. might have to get bumped...I forgot about Aidan Quinn and those piercing blue eyes. (*sigh*)
~wolf #282
and he plays paul mccartney in some film i saw an ad for. wearing brown contacts too! i loved aidan in, oh, now what was that movie with brad pitt and aidan played his brother and they were both in love with the same woman? well, i thought aidan was a babe in that one.
~MarciaH #283
There goes another of my illusions crushed by reality. TV is not like real life? Auwe!!! Our police do not even faintly resemble their actor-counterparts either...if they did, I suspect no one would tune in to watch.
~wolf #284
well, if you watch emergency vets on animal planet, you would know that some vets in real life are real babes!
~MarciaH #285
Y're right about that! Babes for both proclivities, actually! Perhaps that is why I tend to watch "real" TV instead of movies and programming involving actors (unless it is British...*sigh*) Wolfie, you would have been such a GREAT vet of the DVM sort *hugs*
~MarciaH #286
Of course, you are still so unconscionably young that you can become a DVM as soon as The Man will let you out of your contract. Stranger things have happened...!
~wolf #287
always wanted to be a vet but as i get older, am not sure i can handle it!
~MarciaH #288
What's the difference between nursing your children and husband and letting excess "wind" out of a cow?! Yeah, I know! There is too much blood involved with veteranary medicine for me. Are you such a fan of animals that you could not poke'um and cut out bad stuff to save their lives? Not sure I could as a way of making a living. Once as a heroic measure is different!
~wolf #289
i would get too emotionally involved and cry a lot. i'd rather leave the cutting to someone else and let me rehabilitate them (after surgery, injury, abuse) i would love to take a "biting" dog and turn it into a teddy bear.
~MarciaH #290
That is what I imagined. You and I are nurturers who NEED to hug and soothe and comfort and kiss it to make it better. At least you have loving animals and kiddies who love and need you...I have a computer...
~MarciaH #291
Oh, and some very nice friends IRL...lest they read this and wonder about it.
~wolf #292
funny you should call my penchant for hugging and kissing "nurturing"....my mother told me that there was more to being a vet than petting the animals (and this when i was 25 years old). i had to hold my tongue with both hands!
~MarciaH #293
They have solid proof that children (and animals, as well) will not thrive without hugging and nuzzling and kissing them...even with the best of food. Wolfie, You Da Mom! (is there such a saying?!)
~MarciaH #294
( You showed remarkable restraint *applause* oh, and *hugs*) *grin*
~wolf #295
well, sad as it is to say, she's kinda always been that way. poor dear. wish she could see me as a person and not as a five year old. (i love her anyway)
~autumn #296
I could never be a vet...when we had cable, I used to cry at every episode of that British vet show on PBS ("All Things Bright and Beautiful"? "All Creatures Great and Small"? Either way, it's a line from that hymn).
~wolf #297
yeah, me too, i've seen lots and lots of episodes of emergency vets (in colorado) and have just sat there bawling and hugging my dogs. i love that clinic though. they're always ready to take a critter in. seems like around here you have to make an appointment and forget about midnight emergencies. (those books, all things bright and beautiful and all creatures great and small, are so good. read them as a teenager)
~wolf #298
hi autumn!
~MarciaH #299
By the time we got that series in Hawaii I was married to a Biologist and we would discuss the dissections during the program. I had to be clinical because he was a new aquisition and all that...!
~Gregory #300
Marcia Why would you want a listing of guys on a babes page for guys? That why you can't get any postings. Everyone wants to post babe stuff. I hope your not offened by this you sound like a nice good looking woman.
~MarciaH #301
*sigh* because it is the only place we could think of to put it outside of Drool where lots of these posters are more comfortable. I understand your concern. But, in a conference with so many places for men to salivate over ladies of choice, is there not even a tiny corner where we might admire men of whom we think at least as much?!
~wolf #302
if you don't like this topic, gregory, then avoid it and stick to the male-worthy ones in babes. *wink*
~MarciaH #303
Perhaps the gentleman is worthy of admiration himself? Gregory, why does this bother you?
~lance8 #304
Sounds like Gregory ran. My own choice, if I were a woman, would be Sean Connery. Too rugged! Glad he's a Scot instead of a Welshman. Couldn't handle the competition!
~MarciaH #305
Sean Connery is on my list! In fact, everyone female who has posted in here's list. He is a world-class Babe! But, so art thou...scion of Gwynneth...
~wolf #306
can we lengthen our lists? i'd like to add the guy who played "Witt" in the thin red line. he sorta looks like ralph fiennes. i watched that movie twice just for him and ben (from the truth about cats and dogs)
~MarciaH #307
Why is it whenever I hear the name of Fiennes I shudder? Must be a Colinic reaction which has become automatic by now. Gotta name for this guy so I can take a look at him?
~MarciaH #308
Lengthen list? I have several lists for different categories of men. List away, Dear! The more the better *grin* One guy takes up one entire list of mine.
~wolf #309
i don't remember his name but will have to do some searching...will get back with you....
~wolf #310
oh, ralph is certainly drool-worthy, see my comment in inner, sweetie...
~MarciaH #311
You'd like to dance with him and have him devour you with his eyes, too? I would, too...but I shall check your other comment. G'morning Wolfie!
~wolf #312
James Caviezel...he has some beautiful eyes....still looking for pics
~wolf #313
from Vanity Fair magazine
~wolf #314
marcia? wait! i know, you passed out cold on the floor after taking a gander at this man, right? *grin*
~MarciaH #315
Yup! I see those bedroom eyes...and he has all of the great features of R Fiennes, like you said. He is a Babe right up there with the best of them. Yupper! What a great picture!
~MarciaH #316
...not passed out, changed the beds while you hunted for the picture*grin*
~wolf #317
thanks for the reminder, i gotta do that too......
~MarciaH #318
Guy Babes may not notice, but the female of the species sure does *grin*
~autumn #319
*swoon*
~wolf #320
found another, vince vaughn. cutie pie!
~MarciaH #321
Where did you find him? What does do?
~wolf #322
oh, i saw him first (where i was aware of him) in a movie called a cool dry place about a man who moves to kansas with his young son to escape the fact that his wife walked out on them. and now i'm watching him in return to paradise with anne heche and joakim something or other (say wua keem) i think it's phoenix. he's a cutie too.... and anne heche is good. i like her...lemme go find a pic of vince.......
~wolf #323
here's a pic, i hope it's not too big:
~MarciaH #324
He's cute,alright...but when they start looking younger than my son, I tend to draw the line right there for consideration of Babehood.
~wolf #325
haha!! well, ok, maybe now it's not so funny since i checked on his birthdate and here ya go: March 28, 1970 *yikes*
~MarciaH #326
You're younger than that!!!
~MarciaH #327
...and I have clothes older than that *frown*
~wolf #328
haha!! well, my age will be my little secret then! *grin*
~wolf #329
brb *smile*
~MarciaH #330
as is mine...I started deducting years after a while. Now I am so confused I have no idea what age I am!
~autumn #331
He's the same age as my little brother--ewwwwww!!!!
~MarciaH #332
Yup...and it's gonna get worse now that we have all reached *ahem* adulthood and they are worshipping younger and younger "men" Real Men don't begin to get interesting until they are in their 30's...
~wolf #333
i think the same can be said of real women. it seems to be a point when we get comfortable with who we are and know a bit of who we are. same for the guys.
~MarciaH #334
...but are the guys ever comfortable with who we really are rather than just who they wish we were?
~wolf #335
good point!
~MarciaH #336
*sigh* I have two week's worth of Rice University and Texas Christian University baseball players to add to my babes list. Are all Texans tall and handsome?! * s i g h *
~zx6rider #337
Ok now I'm really confused. Why did you not want this in DROOL? I'm not critisizing, just baffled. At first I thought this topic was women listing the women they thought 'babe'-worthy, as a comparison kind of thing with what the fellas drool over. I thought "Well, I can go there... women, I know ;)" But... this is for women to name men who are babe-worthy. So, color me confused. I'll play... just let me get that rulebook, and a pencil for notes.
~MarciaH #338
Drool is only about a few men and the ladies who post in there are almost a separate entity from the rest of Spring. Not many of us go there (I do because I came from Drool originally) and are not comfortable there. Where else do you suggest we do this?
~zx6rider #339
Oh no, no, no..... I'm not suggesting it be moved. I just didn't 'get' the reasoning. I must say I haven't visited DROOL during my re-appearance in Spring. It used to be, for the most part, like this topic. Well, maybe a little more 'drooly'. I'll drop in there and do a little covert lurking. Really I meant no offense. I'm just trying to get a handle on stuff.
~MarciaH #340
Ok...and I am really sorry if I came off sounding defensive, but this topic has been frozen once by Mike, and we really did not intend to make it controversial. We are gentle souls down here, and there are some in Drool who might easily intimidate the mild and noncombative, and they have offended men as well as women who promise NEVER to go back there. Lurk - it's the safest way!
~zx6rider #341
I cruised into Drool for a bit... All the upfront links confused me for a moment but then I found the topic list finally. Peeked at a couple. Eh... does nuthin' for me. Big British actor crush factor there though, huh? OK... top 5 male babes huh? Well these are the guys whose physical appearance might make me contemplate my sexual orientation: Jean-Claude Van Damm Patrick Swayze Sean Connery (who doesn't love this guy?) Lorenzo Lamas Mel Gibson O.k. so I like a guy with muscles. What can I say...
~MarciaH #342
Can't say that I blame you on your choices... I think we all adore Sean Connery. John and I have been bashing it out in Email about whether or not this topic belongs here. He equated it with a unisex bathroom or a men's room in which women have taken over. Unfortunately, this and topic 45 are the only ones currently active in here, and I really don't think we are the inhibiting factor. I will gladly move it elsewhere. Just suggest and agree and we're gone. But, not to Drool. That's a whole nuther world in there!
~MarciaH #343
Yes, Gena, if it were not for Colin Firth, that entire conference would dry up and die.
~zx6rider #344
Is there a 'Women's Room' conference at the SPRING? Perhaps if there's not, there should be. Then they could make BABES the boys room and we would? stay out. I'm sure we could come up with inumerable topics to fill it. Due to possible content it would probably need to be an 18+ room. What do you think?
~sprin5 #345
Sure, we used to have one and it was admisable via user list. You had to be on the list to access it.
~Saskia #346
You've inspired my coming out of lurkdom. Very quickly, a brief intro. I am not Dutch, in spite of my name. I was born in Hong Kong. My father is English/Chinese and my mother is American of German and American Indian (Crow) ancestry. My mother has a degree in Art History. She admires the work of Rembrandt, hence my name. You are right about Drool. I've been lurking about the Spring for a few weeks and that particular conference is very clique-ish. It's like high-school over there. There is very much a group of a favored few and everybody else can go hang. One of my favorite posters at Drool is a woman named Cheryl, she also posts on other conferences, I think. She's intelligent, funny and very astute, but "the chosen few" are very rude to her. Quotes are copied from her posts and not credited to her. She is not allowed to have an opinion, although the favored ones can be as opinionated as hell. I think her a to be a nicer person than I. No doubt she has a life and doesn't much care about ill-bred Colin Firth fans behavior toward her. I'll be nasty and name someone posting at Drool I can't stand. Namely that would be Mari. In a word boring. All she ever does is post newspaper articles, make bad Mafia jokes and play sycophant to Karen. It would appear, unlike Cheryl, she appears not to have a life at all outside the Drool boards. Childish, I know but hey, I'm 22. Just a kid. Drool is essentially a Colin Firth board. One that alienates many Colin Firth fans at that. Perhaps another conference for male babes. I don't know. You might call it Hot Male. I'm absolutely mad for Russell Crowe, and there is a Drool topic on him. There is one, but no one ever posts there. So why should I bother. Please consider my idea for a new male appreciation conference. You might even have a Colin Firth topic there for the more gentle souls. I've been bad mannered enough. My father would be mortified. Before I close one more thing. Marcia, Marcia, Marcia. You are the Queen of Spring. I love your posts on a myriad of topics. Enough. Bye-bye.
~MarciaH #347
Aloha Saskia! I am delighted you posted so much about youself. I feel at home with you already. *hugs* We'll add your suggested conference to the list. Wolf and I are trying to get someone to make the space for us to have a craft conference. As to Drool, that was my origin, and if you read the old part of 72 or 113 they are my topics before I got my own conference to run. However, I agree with you, it is no longer fun! CherylB is the best!!! I spent considerabel time in email with her to convince her we needed and valued her posts. She is a frequenter of Geo. Please come over - we are not all that stiff in there. After all, I am running it *grin*
~MarciaH #348
hey baby hey baby do you want to be my girl (sprin5) Yup!
~MarciaH #349
Oops...guess he did not mean me...*sigh*
~wolf #350
man, where did that line come from (the hey baby). i was ready to blush! thanks for comeing over saskia and gena. i'm over here because i was tired of wading through firthian posts just to get to two of my topics over in drool (arnold vosloo and david duchovny). and i certainly don't mean to impose on the men's territory and i try to keep my comments on babedom in this topic. am not apologizing in the least. i've held many babe conversations with men about women. i think it's great to have a place where men and women can converse about their likes and dislikes. no one is treated badly and i get a good laugh as do the guys! i might be able to add a RL babe and i work with him. so no names at all!!
~MarciaH #351
Oh yeah...I can relate to that. But you already have been introduced to the men I would name - and probably already have (ruffling back through my files to see) One thinks I am bizarre and the other questions my taste but does not discourage it. Wolfie, we used to keep the men's 5 top Babes topic alive by posting this in there and no one complained until...so I created this for us. The came here to complain and abandoned their topic entirely. Go figure!
~MarciaH #352
Re: hey baby...Um...Terry is feeling frisky? It IS spring, you know...*giggle*
~wolf #353
I KNOW!!!! (not shouting, emphasizing) and i have spring fever bad, girl!
~sprin5 #354
Yeah, very frisky, I went through and changed all my pseuds today.
~wolf #355
uh-huh....noticed that!
~wolf #356
how'd you get them to match each topic?
~MarciaH #357
You do that when you enter the conference
~wolf #358
oh. and it stays that way until you change it. cool!
~sprin5 #359
Yeah, I only do that once every few months.
~MarciaH #360
Indeed it does - and mine is now cast in Yapp till I change it.
~wolf #361
as is mine!
~MarciaH #362
Post something, Wolfie...
~MarciaH #363
Alright!!! That's more like it! *grin*
~wolf #364
done.
~zx6rider #365
I wanna play... this is what my friends call me because I'm such a geek.
~MarciaH #366
OK! Yes! excellent! *LOL*
~wolf #367
i agree. welcome to the game! *giggle*
~sprin5 #368
You got game.
~MarciaH #369
~MarciaH #370
Time to breathe some life back into this topic. I have a noble knight to add to my list. He is Most Worthy! Lord Dimday
~MarciaH #371
And, like I said elsewhere... Just in case you are reading this... Impossible to forget!
~sociolingo #372
Another noble knight.... Sean Connery, the gravelly voiced, sexy Scottish actor who shot to stardom as secret agent 007 in the James Bond films, turned 70 on Friday. Tall, handsome and possessing a famously gruff personality, Connery has often been described as Scotland's favourite Scot and the world's sexiest man. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth in July, two years after he was reportedly denied a knighthood because of his Scottish nationalism. Connery, who grew up in the slums of Edinburgh and once worked as a coffin polisher, played the character created by novelist Ian Fleming in seven Bond films. Born Thomas Connery on August 25, 1930, he was brought up in near-poverty, never attempted to disguise his raw Scottish accent and preferred beer to Bond's vodka martini cocktails that are "shaken not stirred". At the age of 17, two years after the end of World War Two, Connery was drafted into the Royal Navy and served three years as an ordinary seaman. He hated it.A chance meeting with a friend resulted in him joining the chorus of the American stage musical "South Pacific" -- after 48 hours of dancing and singing lessons. "I grew up with no notion of a career, much less acting," he once said. "I certainly never have plotted it out. It was all happenstance, really." There's my two cents .... At 70 he still does it for me......
~MarciaH #373
There are a lot of us, Maggie. You are not alone in your choice of Sir Sean. Look back through the posts. A long line has long since formed. A worthy knight companion of Lord Dimday!
~sociolingo #374
Ah, didn't go back that far in the archives .... Just saw the birthday pix and thought I'd add my twopennorth! I seem to remember Sir Sean coming up in a quiz somewhere recently - didn't we both pick him???? *naughty grin*
~MarciaH #375
We did ...*grin*
~wolf #376
like to add someone to my babe list but he shall remain nameless for now. david duchovny is still there though. i thought it was way cool when sean connery was knighted!!
~MarciaH #377
Was Sir Sean not a vision in his Kilt? Way cooler than cool is he. However, My Lord Dimday out-shines him in my world...
~MarciaH #378
*grin* Way to go, Wolfie! *HUGS*
~MarciaH #379
He tops my list for November 14 - in fact, he occupies a list all to himself. The top five on this very special Babes list is: Neil Neil Neil Neil Neil ...not done yet... try something Sino-Poetic and well-aged like fine wine...
~Gregory #380
Marcia, Many thanks for the posting of the Faith Hill pics for me. Thanks, Greg
~MarciaH #381
Thanks for giving us much eye candy. My pleasure! Surprisingly, I also have a topic (45) in here. You are definitely now babe material as far as I am concerned. Get thee hence Firth. Here comes Greg!
~wolf #382
*laugh* good, maybe we oughta rename drool to Firthing and start a new drool conference!!
~MarciaH #383
the has gotta be a better name for a conference than Drool!!! How elegant can one be??? *wiping it off me as I type*
~sprin5 #384
Such as?
~MarciaH #385
Actually, it is so entrenched and so almost single-mindedly Firthian... Drool is fitting I think, now. Drool can imply many things and since I do not want bullet holes through Geo, I'll let Droolers be just that. Wolfie? Wanna wade in and help me remove my foot?!
~wolf #386
I'm with you, girlfriend!!
~mikeg #387
Since I'm the host, I guess I should contribute my top 5 male babes (or at least as many as I can think of). People I admire rather than people I necessarily would want to go to bed with :-) In no order 1. Damon Albarn (singer of an English band called BLUR). This guy is *so* hot...I am just desperate to be the combination of cool and good-looking that he is :-) 2. Dave Grohl (front guy of Foo Fighters, formerly in Nirvana). Really interesting face...it's fun to watch. He also has a great voice and writes fantastic songs. Oh, and he has a fantastic scream, too, like all true Metallers should :-) 3. Nicholas Cage. I've only seen him in two-dimensional Action Film roles just recently (The Rock, Gone in Sixty Seconds), although I'm led to believe he's quite a good actor. I love the way he delivers his one-liners...so droll. Hmmm...all I can think of for now. I've got to say, women come far more easily to mind :-)
~mikeg #388
Here is Damon Albarn:
~mikeg #389
If I could be anybody for a day (and it had to be male :-) then it'd be him :)
~MarciaH #390
Hmmmmmm... not Sean Connery??? Personally I imagined you'd pick someone a tad more mature but not bad... Funny, but I kinda liked you blond!!! Beats being one of the Backstreet Boys... or is he?! Thanks for posting him. I see you in an entirely different light now. Interesting!
~autumn #391
He's doing the "Scream" thing...is he some tortured artist type?
~MarciaH #392
Think the audience suffers most...
~autumn #393
ROTFLOL, Marcia!!!
~MarciaH #394
I have a new list - this one is Cyber Guys and, for obvious reasons, they are in no particular order: Andres Bill Bob Herman Ian John (5 of them) Liam Mike Neil Rob Stephen Waren William Others have gone missing and will be added as they or if they reappear.
~terry #395
They are in order though, alphabetical.
~MarciaH #396
Terry Marshall (stay tuned)
~wolf #397
i messed up my male babe post by putting in top 5 babes *grin* all i did was add bill pullman to my list *schmoooze*
~autumn #398
Is he the guy from "While You Were Sleeping"?
~MarciaH #399
Might I suggest a chorus of "Tea For Two?" You must hate that song - it is all too graphic! Quite ok Wolfie - yeah, who is Bill Putnam?
~wolf #400
bill pullman is the brother in while you were sleeping. he also played the prez in independence day...
~MarciaH #401
Ladies, we need to update our lists. At least, mine needs some changes. Some things remain eternal, though. Seems Mike is missing. Come back and fill you place on our lists!!
~MarciaH #402
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TERRY AND ROB Two list-toppers for certain. Many happy returns of the day!
~wolf #403
oh, it's rob's b-day too? well then, happy birthday to both of you! hope you had a wonderful day!!
~MarciaH #404
Indeed, the man has achieved total majority. No more blaming anyone else for any mistakes he might make, if any. I suspect he is not that sort, anyway!
~AotearoaKiwi #405
Hi all THANK YOU!!! It helps offset the news that I did not pass my 2nd semester Geology paper and that I will be trying to pass it again this year. I did okay in Geography though with C's and a B- so that is a boost to my confidence. Rob
~MarciaH #406
YOU are a splendid writer! What on earth was unacceptable? I cannot imagine!
~MarciaH #407
*sigh* I do truly appreciate you. Will have to find a babes list to put you on!
~MarciaH #408
...and this is the perfect place to put it =) Hmmm... Think you would be the first blond !
~mikeg #409
Just dropped by.... oh so many changes going on!!!
~MarciaH #410
Hi Sweetie! Missed your hostly presence. Lots of changes. Get thee to inner and let us know how things are going for you.
~CherylB #411
Submitted for your consideration the new face of Calvin Klein. If you can get your eyes above his, er, neck, that is, you will notice that he has a nice face, too. http://lifestyle.ninemsn.com.au/cleo/hotmen/hotbabe/profile45.asp
~wolf #412
*blush* oh my!
~CherylB #413
Does that mean that you approve or not, Wolfie Baby?
~wolf #414
oh, definitely APPROVE!!!
~wolf #415
my list has been altered. one babe has now been removed for life.
~autumn #416
Which one?? Why have I just noticed what a babe Ben Affleck is??
~wolf #417
ben affleck can take this dude's spot. (he wasn't named, just on the list). and did i have nicholas cage on there? well, if not, he's there officially now.
~MarciaH #418
Good for you, Wolfie. I agree entirely!
~MarciaH #419
New list for me. Those who really have my heart bother to come to Geo and at least log in so I can see they were there even if they did not say anything. GEO-guys in the order of appearance - sort of: William (I can't say enough) Lance (he and John B have actually hugged me!) JohnB Andres (he hates that name!) Cosmic Mike Horrible Horace Stephen MikeG Rob JOHN (Keoni) Poubelle Mike AMI =) Sikander Imran, and the others who come and go, making my life so much richer for having done so. Guys who would make the list if only they would say someting on Geo: Don B JK List to be amended as I remember more and more of those who deserve mention. Thanks, Gentlemen. You have made my life amazingly rich just by being here.
~AotearoaKiwi #420
Hi all What about John Tsatsaragos?? He has done wonders on Geo. My contribution has been significant, but his makes me feel small. Rob
~MarciaH #421
John Tsatsaragos is Keoni and JOHN in capital letters. You can be assured he knows precisely where he ranks on all of my lists, mentioned or implied. I put my list in order of appearance in Geo as best I could remember. I think you know the order which shall remain private!
~AotearoaKiwi #422
Hi all Good girl. GRINS. John will be delighted. I have an idea of what the order looks like, and that I am on it somewhere. No mistaking that you are on my list. If I had to put everyone in order I would have nightmares because so many people have done so much for me and I would be lying if I said they do not deserve a mention. That is why my remains in no particular order. Rob
~MarciaH #423
Mine is that way also. I have added another. Alexander-the-Great will know but if I add his name to the list the way his mother tongue says it, maybe it would not be expeditious for him. So I will remain quiet. Besides, he teaches teenagers English and has told them about the lady in Hawaii. They will find me out if I am not careful. ***ALOHA***
~MarciaH #424
There are some people I would rather not find some of the things I have posted on Spring .... but there you are. For all eternity - or as long as the internet and Spring exist.
Help!
