Gwenyth Paltrow did a classic skit on Saturday Night Live where she came out acting very *English* and her boyfriend Ben Affleck jumped up and exclaimed "You're not English", well, you would have had to have seen the skit. . .

1) Gwyneth Paltrow vs. Elizabeth Hurley (the Star) The headline: "Gwyneth and Liz! Catfight!" The dispute: "Claws are being sharpened for an all-out catfight" between the two women over who will become the new face of Este Lauder cosmetics. Word on the street, says the Star, is that Lauder executives are "fed up with [Hurley's] very public love affairs and constant flaunting of her sexuality," preferring the "hotyet wholesomepresence projected by Paltrow." Sample (supposed) jabs: Hurley: "Who does that bony thing think she is? I'll see to it that she doesn't upstage me. The public likes a real woman, one who's got some curves." Paltrow: "Isn't Liz just a tad too old for that job, anyway," Paltrow supposedly "icily" asked a pal. Winner: Hurley, by a nose.

'I am totally Daddy's girl' Gwyneth Paltrow, who loves working in Britain and is in town to shoot Possession, talks to Sarah Bailey GWYNETH PALTROW answers the door of the pretty mews house she is renting in London. She has bare feet and is dressed in beige cords and a little fitted white shirt, which reveals inches of yoga-hard tummy. (That's Ashtanga yoga for you, six days a week, without skipping - "you get past a point mentally", apparently.) She ushers me upstairs into a breezy white-on-beige sitting room that is, she says, not unlike her place in New York. A Dyptique Freesia candle is burning and another, Moroccan Mint Tea, remains unlit. Gwyneth has laid on lunch - treats from her local Italian deli in London and jasmine tea from Chinatown in Los Angeles. She chats about her Possession co-star Aaron Lockhart ("huge heart, very sensitive beats himself up a lot") and the challenge of playing literary sleuth Maud Bailey, on account of Maud's "super English" phlegm and glacier reserve. . . . brief excerpt from http://www.telegraph.co.uk/et?ac=003880801864781&rtmo=gjr7VNju&atmo=rrrrrrrq&pg=/et/00/11/10/tlgwyn10.html Whew, what a looong url.

Hey, The Telegraph is my favourite newspaper :-) Liz Hurley vs. Gwyneth Paltrow, huh? Hmmm...not a big fan of either of them, it has to be said, but I think I'd favour GP. She a blondie, right? Gotta like a blonde... (I certainly liked the blondes when I was out last night :)
~sprin5 #4
I'll see if I can dig up a pic, or if you run across one!
~MarciaH #5
Look at "Shakespeare in Love" she was stunning in it and much better than *gasp* Colin Firth...!
~sprin5 #6
Careful Mike, you're treading on thin ice there. I'll have to check out this movie.
~wolf #7
yes, she was stunning!

Talking of movies, I'm debating whether to get a TV at the moment. I haven't had one for the last six months because it's so full of crap that I never watch it anyway. However, I would like to watch lots of movies so that I can get ideas for this place (and ideas for another place, but we won't go in to that... :-). Should I get a TV? Should I not get a TV? It's a dilemma. Think I'll go back to dribbling over girls now. :-)

If you want to watch movies, get Directv with it so you can watch movies.
~MarciaH #10
I watch my monitor - far more humor and stimulation here =)

From the Canadian canoe.ca Oscar-winner Gwyneth Paltrow is in talks with Estee Lauder to take over as the company's spokesmodel -- a job currently held by Elizabeth Hurley, according to MSNBC. The story said the makeup company has become disenchanted with Hurley after a string of negative publicity, including having the premiere of her recent film "Bedazzled" picketed by striking members of the Actors Guild, angered that she shot commercials in violation of the strike. At stake is a multi-million-dollar modelling contract and a massive ad campaign that would be centered around Paltrow. Paltrow has time on her side, too. She's 28, while Hurley is 35, and Paltrow's squeaky-clean image is said to be preferable to Hurley, who was recently reportedly caught in a romantic tangle with married comedian Denis Leary, the report said.

and GP is in a movie with Ben Afleck called Bounce. Anyone catch it yet?
~sprin5 #14
Not yet. Saw a few clips on tv, that's all, wolfmeistress.

Liz vs. Gwyneth--can't go wrong with either one, they're both so glamorous. Mike, you can a TV/VCR combination (I think the largest you can get is 19") which requires no cable access if all you plan to do is watch videos. They run for less than $200 here.
~sprin5 #16
For Gwenyth Paltrow fans, tonight Lifetime will be putting on Emma, at 8 pm CST.
~autumn #17
One of my fave Austen novels.
~MarciaH #18
I have a 21 inch TV-VCR combo in the bedroom...
~sprin5 #19
Awesome, you've got it goin' on at those island digs. That rocks!
~MarciaH #20
Terry, you don't know the half of it. Just need a worthy rockee to join me. Hey, when you live with eruptions, refractory periods, plateaus and all those good things, you got rocks that rock!
~terry #21
Wow, not even half.

I hope the drooleur who posted this won't mind me pasting it in to this Gwynee topic. Topic 137 of 151: 'Possession - the Movie' Resp 624 of 624: suzee (suzee) Wed, Jul 18, 2001 (23:05) 16 lines (Thanks to Mary Beth at JN e-groups) Chicago Sun-Times July 9, 2001 BY CINDY PEARLMAN ROSES ARE RED: Gwyneth Paltrow can get her British up again. She just wrapped ''Possession,'' a romantic drama she shot in England with Gwynie as a British university prof who joins forces with an American scholar Aaron Eckhart (''Erin Brockovich''). It's not like they're just sitting around reading the classics--thank goodness. They're also researching two famous Victorian poets who fell in love. Jeremy Northam (Paltrow's ''Emma'' co-star) and Jennifer Ehle (''Paradise Road'') are the word wizards. The two screen couples never met on the set as their stories are set 150 years apart. ''Aaron and I only met Jeremy and Jennifer in passing,'' Paltrow says. ''It's very weird saying you're in the same movie but admitting you didn't get to do any scenes together.'' Kind of like Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta Jones in the movie about the drug wars, Traffic. They're married but don't appear together in this movie.
~autumn #23
I hope the movie is better than the book... Saw GP in a film last night, "Duets", with Huey Lewis, which takes place on the karaoke circuit (I never knew there was such a thing!). I recommend it.
~terry #24
What was the Arthurian movie Paltrow was in with Richard Gere and Sean Connercy?
~autumn #25
hmm...no idea.
~MarciaH #26

Wow, great post!
~terry #28
Gwenyth Paltrow did a first class performance in Emma. It was funny and fresh, and you have to love how human she was. She has pitch perfect English. She's in every scene in that movie.
~autumn #29
She also affected an English accent in Sliding Doors, which was quite good.
~Gregory #30
I think she was great in Bridget Jones Diary.
~autumn #31
Uh...wasn't that Renee Zellweger?
~MarciaH #32
Yup, it was Renee. Ask a fellow Firthian... Greg, I think your wife qualifies! I love the promos which feature her new movie. It looks pathetic, but she is adorable. Sam is deplorable. Has anyone seen this movie?
~terry #33
No, the previews are showing a very lame looking movie, very unPaltrowlike.
~MarciaH #34
I don't like Shallow Hal (if that is the name.) She is so much better than that awful movie!!! They even managed to make Gwynnie look a bit dumpy. That takes some doing!
~hgwells42 #35
I did not see Shallow hal but saw Royal Tenebaums. She was excellent as Margot Tenebaum. View a nice portfolio here http://www.titanimage.com/gwynsmall 11 galleries of large photos and updated often. Her movies coming out soon are possession (Aug) and View FromThe Top (Jan 2003)
~MarciaH #36
Lovely pictures of a beautiful woman who does not do enough at public events to accuent her perfection. Best of all, she is also a fantastic lady. Class cannot be bought or applied at anty age. Either you have it or you don't. Thanks for the link and some excellent eye-candy, Ron.
~cfadm #37
~wolf #38
like GP, she has a lot of elegance about her. when is she going to make another film?
