How is your life going today? What have you been doing? What
are you doing right now? What's on your mind?

Rambling can include your life today. Rambling is anything. Your life today
is more specific. You're right on topic.

I'm with Ricky Lee- why not another hour or two? Finals looming next week, the
GRE's this saturday. How about a back button on time? Holidays? Oh, yeah. Those too. Well, in for a dime... Looking forward to a respite out on the homestead.
No alarm clock, deadlines, fighting traffic or the bureaucracy. Peace (and quiet) on earth!

How did you get ambushed, ? I suppose I could wander over to EM and look for signs of the violent deed, such as blood and brains splattered about. But it could be dangerous over there, and discretion is the better part of valor. Or is it velour-- I get those mixed up. Or is it DISCUSSION is the better part of valor? (In The Fray, it really is.)

there were ambushes on eMinds, yes.
nonetheless: i remember the GRE tests. they were awful.
i took three of them on the same day because i disliked
them so much. don't EVER do that! it was a horrible mistake.
my brain was full of peanut butter when i got done.
i did, however, manage to find a question on the test that
was mis-written; and so i argued with educational testing
service about it until they yielded. long time ago, that...

Well...
I feel like sharing my thoughts with people at the moment, which happens
sometimes...I'm in an odd mood and have been for quite a few days.
Does anyone find it odd that I should still dream about a girl whom I
haven't been involved with for over two years? Do I have a problem
when I serve someone a bottle of "Castaway" in the bar and remember her?

But it's such *old news*. It seems that it occurs when I'm lonely, which
isn't very helpful. Surely I should be reaching out for my current
girlfriend (my fiancee, for goodness sake!) and not someone who I haven't
even seen for years...

It's a thing I used to actively promote, I even had a nice -ism for it, wait, what was it? Possibly something like constructo-pragmatic pessimism. Expect that stuff doesn't work. If it does, tell 'em, "Well, I always said it would!". If not, use the same phrase. Saves you a large vocabulary... Might put some people off, too...

Weeell, I grew up, and weaned out of it. That's it. I used to be declaring myself as dogmatic undogmatic (with some very fine moves and styles that really threw folks off my track).
Still, didn't get ME anywhere. Painted myself in corners, perhaps. What a sad sight.
These days, I've progressed beyond these limits and programmes. As a Neo-Pragmatic Post-Postmodern Man, I don't need ideologies anymore.

hey, how bout this
but no one might be interested in actually doin' it (not that it matters)
but here it is anyway (it's the thot that counts):
with a sound card, microphone, and sound-mixing shareware of some kind obtained somewhere off the net (where?), and whatever else is
needed to make sound files, each of us could:
take the self-made sound (hopefully including some of their own voice) someone emails us and add our own sound to it.....
the self-made sound can be our own voice and/or our own instrument-playing and/
or not our own sounds (but our own mix/dub/sample of some record)
and we could mix lightly over another person's sound (adding background to it that doesn't obstruct....but adds to....the other's sound).
collaborative non-duelling sound editing it is is it it is.
mmm, never done it myself.....
plus, don't have a microphone, or sound-mixing software, or sound card
wait a minute, what'd i do with my legs, my lucky tongue, my brain.....?
.......fraid all (of me) is lost
i'm useless

With us ethnic German, Wolf, it's always this way, true. We land in a mess and struggle our way out. Sometimes quite a messy thing. There may be smarter approaches... But not for us, I'm afraid.
Say, Wer, come to think of it - Roland sounds like a German family name to me...
~KitchenManager

not to mention William...the most archaic spelling

~aschuth
Sun, May 16, 1999 (08:48)
#119
So, your family is Danish, Wer?
In Bremen is a famous medieval statue, the Roland. He was a "Herold" for Charlemagne, whom we know as "Karl der Groe", and held a ravine against the saracens somewhere in Spain, all by himself, and warned the train behind him with his horn signals. He died, but his effort and loyalty made him a legend.
(There is a passage in Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, which always seemed to me to be a reenactment of this: When Boromir falls, his hornsignals warns the companions.)

So? Who here isn't?
Hey, we had North Africans here *2.000* years ago. Russians occupied the area *around 1800* when they pushed Napoleon back. Plus spoken language in my state, especially this county, knows many distorted french words because they came over to knock us up *all the time*. Before the North Africans and their Roman officers this was *Celtic land*. In the town I was born in they had a major industrial site to produce salt from the springs we have here. Not far from it were two major fortifications and a great c
lt place. Afterwards, Germanic tribes settled here. To keep this area for the empire, the Romans built the limes, a long wall through Germany (sound familar?). When all that was over, the Hunns passed through. Tell a german about being a mutt. What a joke!

Lady from Drool - a little late perhaps, and not in your favorite category agewise, but here I am. Shall I take any messages back to the nubile maidens of Drool? I am going to have to read all of these little topics, am I not, to find out where I need to defend myself or the intelligent and witty women of Drool (I know, if they were so W & I why did they choose "Drool" for the name of their conference?!) I trust all of you have survived the deep gloomies I read about in going through this topic. Cheers

Cheers for you, Dear! I am glad you had a great 4th. The hairy chest-beater has been working on the drain and it is so full of fumes out there that I am again closed in the Bedroom with the computer. Can't do anything but play all day! ...suffer...suffer I plan to laugh as soon as he removes that plug in the trap which used to open onto the driveway but he enclosed extending the garage even further. Now he will have to catch whatever comes out in a shovel and newspapers and bail it over the door sill
Should tell him "I told you so!" but I am a more noble creature than that...maybe...*smirk*

Thank you for the gory 4th details... I now feel privileged not to have touch a drain, toilet or anything else otherwise considered clogged all day!
B's parents had their annual 4th bash and I again reveled in turning everything red white and blue!
Today I went for a run and then decided a day off should not go to waste...
I skated up to the Cherry Creek Arts festival and wandered around for awhile.
Tired...
Taking the skates every year prevents me from spending money frivolously... only if I REALLY want it would I skate it the 20+ miles home!

Ummm! I live on the side of the world's most active volcano. My son is a geologist; I went along on his field trips when he was in college and I still love to hike in there. Nothing quite like watching a volcano erupt close up to stir your soul!

hmmm... crack walnuts...

I suppose I could practice while Mr. B's away...
Wolfie, you gotta understand, I have difficulty sitting still. So... when I think of all the composure I'll have to gather just to spend a full day at work tomorrow, I just want to run around in circles until I flop over from exhaustion. That way tomorrow when I'd usually be feeling claustraphopic and antsy, I'll just get up to get a drink of water and my legs will ache so much I'll WANT to sit down!
WOW! Lava fields... cool! How 'active' is an active volcano? How much impact does the activity have on your life?

i can't sit still for long either, but if i keep my hands and mind busy, i'm alright.
am going to the gym today after a two week hiatus (and a 3 lbs comeback).
marcia, i imaging being that close to an erupting volcano would be enough to let me know my heart still beats (not to mention the necessity of bringing extra pants)! good for you, though. it sounds exciting, but i don't think i could handle it. that was really great support for your son. probably the only excuse you could find to do something like that and not be called crazy, huh?

The only time it has not been fun to live on this volcano is when I am called to do disaster relief work. A lovely little subdivision was buried quite completely by lava a few years ago, and other than feeding them, the only help I was able to offer was my arms around them when they fell apart watching their homes burn and disappear, one by one. It is heart-rending and something etched so clearly in my memory I can still see it when I close my eyes.
~MarciaH

As for moral support for my son on his field trips, He has been wonderful about that. When he was young, he was my excuse to ride on merry-go-rounds; when he got older I got to go on some very interesting hikes (ever eat Jiffy Pop cooked on a hot lava flow?!). I knew I had a good thing when he and a group of his age students included me on their graduation hike. I over did it and became very dizzy, disoriented and frightened. He took me aside and sat me down and calmed me down. Then is when I knew th
t 20 years of nurturning this incredible individual had not been a waste of time, though I never doubted it!

The Geology-doin' one, yup! The best session we had was when he took me camping in Yosemite and I had brought a little "medicinal" brandy along. He seemed to need a nip or two (doesn't take much for my family); then I could not turn him off. It got so funny that I interrupted his musings with inside-the-sleeping- bag giggles until we both fell asleep. I highly recommend it!

Since she is out of town on a business trip and Alexander does not address me when more fetching ladies are about, I shall just mention that the weather in Hawaii is warm and pleasant and humid enough to keep your skin from needing moisturizers. The flowers are plentiful, the fruit is coming into season (including the Best fruit in the Universe, the Mango), and it is altogether too pleasant to do anything but lie in a hammock between two palm trees and let the trade winds cool you. I must say - at the risk of being branded 'geek' by people other than 4 year-olds - I don't really think of kinky sex positions; don't have the patience. I don't like doing it on tables or on the floor for instance, because it HURTS! The couch is the best place.
The creative period is more arty farty than reciprocal. My fat lady on the crocodile chose to have an unusual skin colour - green! She is looking fabulous, and the crocodiles and piranhas too! It's just so GREAT to paint after the year's studies, and the exams of the past 2 weeks. Last night I could just not stop - worked until 3; so now I'm totally hyper!

are posting. Think if he had to cut back and eliminate some of - or all of - the conferences?! Please!

I copied some to file just to see how different they were. The email to Null also is bogus. Curious.

Pretty miserable, actually. And to keep it from becoming mayhem, please remove
the quick fix on http://www.spring.net/today/index.html to restricted status. I am under heavy fire here at home and that has not yet been discovered, I think, or I would have heard of it. PLEASE remove it!!!

Thanks for putting Geo in the Conference list on www.spring.net, but when I try to access the quick fix, I get a blank page. Is there something I am doing wrong? (It was SO good to hear from you!!!)

Well, Terry, I just went in to see the quick fix and got three copies of it. But NO GEO....is there something you are trying to tell me? SpringArk, Collecting and stuff are there, but not GEO. What's it gonna take for me to get you to add it to your telnet list? You'd be surprised at the conversations in there! It is Definitely NOT all boring pasted stuff. Please....?!

I stopped by http://komputerpeople.com in Bastrop, Texas last night and met Keevan. He's been doing this for three years. He's right in the middle of the block on Main Street in historic downtown, across from Baxters. He has a Seattle's Best or something outlet with a row of buffed out computers. The price of admission to wi fi is a drink.
When I flipped on my notebook, I noticed that Baxters across the street also had wi fi. Man, is Bastrop getting sophisticated!
Keevan, it turns out, is a saavy, hip web designer who builds networks and computer systems. When I asked him about a particular website, he had already been there and seemed to be a step ahead of the game in most areas.
What has your experience been with wi fi cafes and hot spots?

Negotiated a deal for jezebel.com today with Heather Champ. It took a few emails back
and forth and a little bit of bargaining. Heather started the http://mirrorproject.com
and jezebel was, I believe, the first incarnation of this site. Some more about how I
first hooked up with Heather and Derek Powazek at http://spring.net/sxsw

I read this on the "Aiste Blog" just now.
We had great time. We stayed in Grace Bay Club (http://www.gracebayclub.com/) which is quite old fashioned for the price . ( But when you have such beautiful sea it doesn't matter!)Photo_174_1
On the other hand , if you look for really exotic time, the Carribean islands will never be as exotic and beautiful as Lombok in Indonesia or Bora Bora which are real paradises on Earth.
Few days in TurksCaicos is enough as there is nothing to do. There is nothing to see apart from the sea! (Luckily we had wifi :) )Photo_019
The other problem , like most of the islands have, is that the food is really low quality and really expensive. As most of the food was inedible, we heavily contributed to the extinction of the lobsters as we ate them for every lunch and dinner. :)

Today, it's early. I'm working on some websites, doing some system admin work, and getting my schedule set up for today on my various web calendars like http://spongecell.com and http://30boxes.com. I have a podcast interview today with the 30boxes folks.
Working out issues with the new subdivision today. Yesterday I had half the Bastrop county officials here perusing the place, along with an engineer who I'll be contracting to do the soils study, etc.
