Guess what inspired this topic? Well, I got an email today, and here's a quote from part of it: > Hey, thanks, haven't had a chance to check out everything, but I will, > soon. What I do like to do is rant and rave about stupid things in the > news, like the cop in Cleveland arresting that lady for being a Good > Samaritan. I do have a web page at > http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Plains/2762 > and I do work on it when I have time. So, heard about any stupid things in the news?

Not exactly in the news, but, how about in the mail? From a government agency known and loved by all, the name of which I omit to protect the guilty. says: "You have 60 days to ask for an appeal. The 60 days start the day after you get this letter. We assume you gor this letter 5 days after the date on it unless you show us that you did not get it within the 5-day period." I think I understand this. Then, again... At the risk of being considered anti-semantic, let me ask, does anyone else think this is confusing? I used to write a column containing examples of baffle-gab and bureau-speak. Called it "It Says Here..." And later, another, called "Say What?" There is no scarcity of material. Sometimes I clip and save choice examples. Even typogoofs can be hilarious. I keep producing them at such a rate, we can only wonder how many there would be if others contributed even a fraction of my output.

That counts. The Austin City Council has outlawed "city camping" (read homelessness). The fine is $500 if you get get caught. Most of these "urban campers" hardly have enought money for a cup of coffee.
