If you have a photo of yourself, and you would like to share it with other Spring members, then please post it here.
~riette #1
No way!
~riette #2
As the creator of this topic, I think it only right and proper that you should start, Mikey!!!! And, please, the one with the sideburns - I luv that photo!
~mikeg #3
sideburns? umm...not sure which one you mean. how about:
~riette #4
YES!!! That's the one! Damn, why do you have to be so young?!?! (Why do I have to be so old?!?!) I love that dark, brooding look you have about you. Makes you very, very interesting in appearance.
~wolf #5
you look a lot like my best friend in school. haven't seen him in years. we still write though. well, there is NO WAY i'm gonna post my ugly mug for you all to sneer at....
~mikeg #6
awww come on :(
~terry #7
Aw common wolfie, pretty please.
~wolf #8
*clearing throat*
~mikeg #9
hehehe :)) now post a real pic :)
~wolf #10
hey! that's a real pic!! can't cuz the scanner isn't up and running yet. do you know how long it will take to find a decent picture? can you wait that long?
~mikeg #11
no, so give us any pic :))
~wolf #12
yeah, right!
~riette #13
Wolf, did I ever mention that (though I'm not scared of you personally) I suffer from wolf phobia or something like that. Much as I love animals, and though I have never ever seen a wolf in my life, I am absolutely, irrationally terrified of them. Can't even watch documentaries about them - I'd wee in my pants, I swear.
~wolf #14
really? wow. nothing to be afraid of really, but i respect that. i watch the documentaries on sharks (and i'd definately poo my pants if i met up with one of them bad boys, lemme tell you)....
~riette #15
Ha-ha! It's probably because I've never seen a wolf that I'm so scared. On the farm where I grew up one often ran into leopards lying in the trees, and we had two lions, and loads and loads of very-very deadly snakes in trees and holes, on the ground, oh, everywhere in summer, but I was never afraid of them, because i knew them. Suppose it has something to do with fear of the unknown, to put it quite dramatically!
~wolf #16
this is true, i've never met a wolf face-to-face (much less lions and leopards) unless you count zoos.
~riette #17
Wolf, you know, I'm not seeing Wer or Terry's pictures here - you think the guys are scared of revealing themselves to us? ha-ha- that sounds vulgar, but you know what I mean!
~KitchenManager #18
Terry flashes by every so often on the main page...
~riette #19
Is he the guy with the big beard and the pony - 'cos that's the only guy I ever see there. Well, wether he is or not, I find that guy totally attractive - reminds me alot of my husband, who also has that big beard thing, and loads of dark hair. And that rough, ruggeddyness - totally love it.
~terry #20
No pony here.
~terry #21
What is the guy with the beard and pony wearing?
~mikeg #22
terry's the geezer with the beard and the glasses. look out for him.
~riette #23
Well, then that IS the same guy. And he HAS a pony, I swear! I saw it! I always sense the presence of a pony on those pictures of him. You're just pretending not to have a pony, aren't you, Terry. (I never look at what you're wearing, but I think the overall colour is a nice, virginal white...)
~terry #24
Gosh, it's so great someone's looking at my video! Feedback!!!!!!!! Love it!
~riette #25
See, Mike? Told you he had a pony!!! Neh-neh-neh-neh!
~KitchenManager #26
It's black and white, but this is about the best one of me that I have...
~wolf #27
oh wer, you animal you, i had no idea! *gasp*
~riette #28
Literally rolling on the floor laughing myself to bits!!!
~mikeg #29
:-) prat :)
~stacey #30
WER... you cut your hair!!!!
~riette #31
I CUT HIS HAIR, REMEMBER?! What? Can't you distinguish his rear end from the front????
~autumn #32
ROTFLOL at all of you!
~mikeg #33
this is my going-out outfit (i'm on the second row, left-hand side) *grin*
~riette #34
Mike, you have the most piercing eyes I have ever seen on a man. They're just so round, so full of emotion . . . catching my breath
~mikeg #35
shame i've got three of em, eh? :)))
~riette #36
No, that's the best part. One to look into a woman's eyes, one to look at her bosom, one to keep watch while you fondle her . . . ha-ha, couldn't resist that wicked thought.
~mikeg #37
euwwww:)
~riette #38
What does euwww mean?
~KitchenManager #39
icky...yucky...gross...
~riette #40
Something like disgusting then. How delicious.
~KitchenManager #41
Exactly!!!
~riette #42
ha-ha! Looks like everybody's asleep, doesn't it. Am I the only person on this conference who has nothing better to do with their free time??????? How depressing! I just find it so relaxing coming here - especially as Chris always brings a cup of tea through . . . . that room service thing, you know.
~wolf #43
where can i get an outfit like that one mike? *grin*
~terry #44
All the pictures of me, past girlfriends, family, etc. are in my family album which you can get to from my home page, http://www.spring.net/~terry/albumjpg
~wolf #45
you sure are one brave fellow there terry...
~terry #46
Pick one and I'll post it here!
~riette #47
Paul1130.jpg
~terry #48
~riette #49
I like the way you look, Terry. Wonder if I should do a portrait . . .
~terry #50
Wow!
~riette #51
Yeah? Thought you might be insulted.
~autumn #52
Terry, are you as straight-laced as you look, or is there a wild man lurking beneath that Brooks Brothers exterior? :-)
~terry #53
There's a Brook Brothers interior lurking under my wild man looks.
~riette #54
ha-ha!!! For a tame man you have rather dark and broody eyes though, so I don't know if we should believe you.
~autumn #55
LOL!
~terry #56
Dark and broody eyes. Ohmygod. I thought I had clear, light blue eyes all this time.
~autumn #57
But they are piercing and intense.
~riette #58
Yes - and therefore broody and dark. Enormous depth an all that. And the piercing bit of course. RAY!!! Why is there not a photo of you here?
~terry #59
Who else are we missing?
~riette #60
Autumn, Stacey, Wolf, Wer.
~KitchenManager #61
I got Stacey's in the mail...will have them up by the end of the week (I hope...)
~ratthing #62
do you really want to see me in all my fatness?
~riette #63
Absolutely!!! After all, I let you see me in all my dullness! It's just really nice to know what one's friends look like, Friend.
~terry #64
You hardly look dull. Pert, fresh, vivacious, maybe. But not dull.
~riette #65
Wow - think I'm blushing heavily here, and not because of the tomatoes. What on earth did I do to deserve such a great compliment?
~terry #66
Everything.
~riette #67
Stop that! I can't stand it when people are so sweet with me - makes me want to cry.
~wolf #68
need a tissue? just don't bawl into my fur, k? (hard to get slobber out)
~riette #69
No, hell, I'll just blow my nose on your tail - ha-ha!!
~KitchenManager #70
Thank you, ladies, for giving me my visual of the day...
~riette #71
ha-ha!!!! And if you're good we'll let you scoop up the remains with your best spatula!!
~KitchenManager #72
bet it'll make one helluva fondue...
~riette #73
if you don't mind green fondue
~KitchenManager #74
It's the best! (especially on purple food...)
~riette #75
Purple!!! Eauw-yuksies!
~ratthing #76
here it is. please, no children allowed. hide your pets. don't look for more than a few seconds at a time. wash your hands after looking. http://www.well.com/users/ratthing/ray.jpg
~ratthing #77
let's try that again.....
~KitchenManager #78
it says it ain't there, Ray...
~ratthing #79
ok, one more time...
~riette #80
Your fiance is a very lucky woman! I'd feel safe as a tortoise under your belt!
~riette #81
Oh, by the way - very very pleased to meet you, bear-thing.
~ratthing #82
ha! i used to be a boxer and i guess it still shows.
~autumn #83
Hey, nice to "see" ya, science guy!
~wolf #84
you're not in Florida are you? (just cuz my scanner's up doesn't mean i'm gonna run right out and get a photo on here)
~riette #85
Of course it does! Go on Wolfie, we're dying to look into yer yellow eyes. And Autumn, what? Will we never get to see you either?
~KitchenManager #86
remember, if you don't want to know, don't look... these be me...
~riette #87
rolling on the floor, laughing myself to bits!!!! Got here first again!!! NOW I'll believe you when you say you've got a hairy ar$e!!! WOW - there's enough there to make ANY girl jealous. And you look exactly as I pictured you - even without the cigar and white hat! I have some of these photo booth shots of Sonja and me too, pulling faces into the camera, and giggling over it - they are absolutely HIDEOUS! But we had great fun at it!
~wolf #88
HAHA!!! you look like i imagined. i have photo booth pics too but i think i burned them all. how long ago was this one taken? or did you make a special trip to the mall?
~KitchenManager #89
four or so years ago...
~riette #90
And do you still have the hair?
~KitchenManager #91
most of it...
~riette #92
Lucky man! Though I must say in some men boldness can be just as attractive. Just glad I'm not a man!!! I never want to be bold.
~KitchenManager #93
*raised eyebrow* by most, I meant shorter, not gone...
~wolf #94
LOL!! btw, women can suffer from hairloss as well :(
~autumn #95
(not to mention mange, eh Wolf? :-) Wer, you look EXACTLY how I pictured you, except I thought you would be fair-haired--and I never pictured the beard, just a mustache. Also, I expected your hairline to be a little recessed, but I got the hair length right! (*feeling very pleased with myself*) Maybe I'll take my camera to my brother's this week and have them developed and scanned for next week.
~riette #96
Wer, the 'Lucky Man' was meant for you! Didn't mean YOU were going bold, just men in general. Touchy subject!!! ha-ha! But I musn't joke, I might go bold myself, and you'll all laugh at me!
~wolf #97
what was that Autumn? too busy scratching *grin*
~stacey #98
nice to see your face again WER! (HI EVERYONE!!!)
~terry #99
Hi!
~wolf #100
HI!!!
~KitchenManager #101
I promise to get yours up in here as soon as I can, Stacey... still haven't completely figured out the scanner...
~stacey #102
no hurry... I know exactly what I look like.
~KitchenManager #103
as do I...to a point, that is...
~stacey #104
the rest is fun to imagine, no?
~KitchenManager #105
'tis true, 'tis true
~KitchenManager #106
as promised, here's Stacey...
~terry #107
Good picture! Look at those rosy lips and those cool bangs! She's lookin' ecstatic.
~riette #108
Gorgeous - very Italian.
~autumn #109
And safety-conscious, too! Good to see you bucklin' up, Stacey! Great photo, so who's the guy?
~riette #110
Mr. B., of course!!
~stacey #111
how funny to see myself literally at the Spring! No more bangs now Paul... that pic was from December of 1996. Yes, that's Brandon kinda contorted as he took the pic while driving (sorry safety-conscious ones, I know!) Thanks WER, that was fun! (would'ya send me the electronic format of those sometime?)
~KitchenManager #112
yep...although the first scan of that one was over 3 megs in size...
~stacey #113
Woo Woo! I am LARGE!
~terry #114
You ain't LARGE, baybee, yo is thin, thin, thin.
~mikeg #115
Lovely to see you wer, Ray and Stacey :) Just Autumn and Wolf to go now, methinks...
~autumn #116
I SWEAR I'm picking up my photos from the supermarket this weekend. Very soon, now...
~wolf #117
i almost went to a color photo booth in the mall! don't worry, it'll show up one of these days and then you'll wish it hadn't!!
~KitchenManager #118
just tell me you'll be in uniform...
~wolf #119
haha!!
~terry #120
Kristen has her picture in babes.
~wolf #121
we know that already!! *grin*
~autumn #122
Yes, Wolf, we want to see you in your dress greens or BDUs! Are you enlisted, NCO, or officer? The NCOs get to hold that cool sword at their annual ball.
~kristen #123
~riette #124
So long as you don't forget to tuck in your tail and ears!
~kristen #125
This is me(redhead) and my best friend Eden on my birthday in 97.
~KitchenManager #126
and you were how old?
~riette #127
Ever the tactful Satanist he is....
~kristen #128
25 fyi
~kristen #129
My next birthday on Wed. Sepy 23.
~terry #130
Tomorrow!
~mikeg #131
Ummm...Kirsten....ummm....*dribbling* :)
~terry #132
Kirsten's nice too. She's the lady who did our currently running Spring video, there are parts of it that are very intriguing.
~riette #133
Happy Birthday, Kristen!
~kristen #134
Thanks Riette...you're the first today!
~kristen #135
Mike...my name is Kristen, not Kirsten.
~riette #136
So, what are you going to do today? Big party? Remember to send the photos!
~kristen #137
Nothing special...had an awful week so far. Hope it get's better.
~KitchenManager #138
Whyfor has it been awful?
~KitchenManager #139
and thank you for your gift to us... it was good to see your name out and about in the conferences...
~wer #140
and another thought, Kristen: you oughta hostess the health conference and work a little ressucitation magic on it...
~terry #141
I know what her favorite topic in health would be . . . ER
~terry #142
By the way, on the birthday girl subject, have you seen all the new pictures on Kristen's web site? Check out http://www.spring.net/kristen
~terry #143
Picture of me and my girlfriend at the time, Salli Rasberry, at my place in Occidental, CA. She's the co-author of "Honest Business" and "Starting a One Person Business".
~terry #144
And, going even further back in time, here's my grandma Ruth Walhus:
~terry #145
And, at one point in my life, I was 12 years old. (Just to prove that wearing cowboy hats did make my ears stick out).
~terry #146
And, here holding my sister Alice (can she be enjoying this?):
~ratthing #147
hey! weren't you in "Leave it to Beaver??"
~KitchenManager #148
sure you don't mean "Our Gang," Ray?
~mikeg #149
sorry about your name Kristen - darn my tybnpig figners
~riette #150
Oh, SWEET photos, Terry! I LOVE looking through other people's photo albums, so keep them coming! I'll send some of my family too!
~terry #151
Please! Put up some of little Riette.
~terry #152
Hey baby, how do you like my new wheels?
~mikeg #153
Riette - you're here!
~kristen #154
What a cute kid...look at that blonde hair!!!
~terry #155
Hey, where are your kid pictures, Kristen? We need to get that scanner working on some of your pictures.
~autumn #156
Happy birthday, Kristen. Terry, gotta love that one of you & your sister. Very sweet and natural. Are you close?
~terry #157
We are pretty close. She recently got married for the first time and lives a very happy life in the SF Bay area.
~stacey #158
cool pics Paul!!
~MarciaH #159
Ok, wer, I promised. This board will never see posting again!
~MarciaH #160
~MarciaH #161
~KitchenManager #162
my turn... here's Marcia...
~KitchenManager #163
near as I can tell, you just forgot your quotes... no biggie!
~MarciaH #164
~aschuth #165
What are you selling, Marcia?
~terry #166
Looks like some UH memoribilia (univ of houston?) (hawaii?)
~MarciaH #167
Oh Good! You did not think I lived like that! I am a volunteer - Hours are unending and the pay is nonexistant, but the rewards are priceless. Yes, I am selling "stuff" for the University of Hawaii at Hilo. The proceeds go to fill in gaps in scholarship and equipment funding caused by budget cuts in the State Legislature. Hanging around college students is a great way to stay young, and some are actually sending their kids to play for us next year. I cannot have been doing this that long?! T is was the outdoor stand at a softball tournament. At Volleyball, I sit at the end of the gym in a corner and have to dodge errant spiked balls. Despite my best efforts, I usually get whacked by a few. No Volunteer's Comp, either. Thanks for asking. Could you see that our Logo is an erupting volcano? We really have one!
~MarciaH #168
Thanks for posting me, wer. I did not realize you did or I would not have done it a second time. I have enough posting fun in Drool 72. It shall be a fun week with Solstice coming. BTW, Gentelmen, Happy Father's Day!
~wolf #169
marcia marcia marcia!! great pic, sweetie (and hawaii to boot).....
~autumn #170
Oh, you stole my line, Wolf!!! :-) Welcome, Marcia! Sounds like a fun way to spend some free time.
~wolf #171
i've been dying to use that one, autumn! *grin*
~aschuth #172
?
~wolf #173
alex: from the brady bunch
~aschuth #174
okidoki.
~MarciaH #175
Sheesh! I get wallowing in drool too long and I find I have missed the profundities going on down here. Happy to provide you with a little reminsicing on the finer points of TV in the 70's or whenever the Bradys were doing their thing. Some of these guys are definitely too young to remember them, and the truly lucky have just plain erased them from the hard drive of their minds. At least you did not say, "John!" (I am grateful for little things!) Oh yes, I will be back at it next weekend when the Little League has their local championships at the University fields.
~MarciaH #176
Ooh! Where are my manners?! Thank you for the warm welcome. And, for those who have not the slightest clue about Little League and what it entails, it is Baseball for Elementary School kids (they play on the smaller Softball field) and for Intermediate School kids (who play on the larger Baseball field). They use a hard ball just like major league baseball and pitch overhand. Quite impressive, and very cute.
~wolf #177
that is, until the parents start pushing the kids too hard (have seen that in person, not cute at all)....just let the kids play! there's enough pressure when they grow up. k...i'm done... glad to see you in these parts again marcia *smile*
~aschuth #178
John! (Happy to oblige, Marcia!)
~MarciaH #179
Oh Wolfie, don't tell me the parents get to stay and watch, too?! Actually, while we were watching practice the other night one irate parent, nor satisfied with yelling from the sidelines, stormed onto the field and yelled at his son on first base. I could have throttled him, and might have tried had I not been bodily hauled away and taken to dinner where cooler heads prevailed. It's gonna be a rough week! Thanks, Alex (*smile*)
~wolf #180
i can't believe it, this is supposed to be fun! i know a parent who pushes his son to be in everything sport's related (ok, football and baseball). sometimes the boy just doesn't want to play (he's 10). his twin sisters (6 yrs) were in a t-ball league this summer and i went to one game. some of those parents were terrible! i had fun routing for everybody! there weren't any losers (didn't keep track of who won or lost) which i thought was genius! the girls did great but some of the other kids had too mu h pressure on them. that dad deserved to be throttled....
~MarciaH #181
Oh Wolf, you and I need to go to a game!!! We could change a kid's whole life with that outlook on sports! I agree entirely! I am there to have fun. Our collegiate teams lose a lot - but they do it with class and everyone has a pot luck for them afterward. That's my idea of sport!
~wolf #182
mine too!!
~KitchenManager #183
potluck as sport...think I could actually go to the practices for that...
~MarciaH #184
*lol* I imagine there would be a large turnout! That is how we perfected the Jellyfish salad?! BTW, how did you know that it contained real jellyfish? Have you ever tasted it? Tell us all about it because your report is about as close as I plan to get to one.
~KitchenManager #185
seen it made on television and have a couple of recipes for it...never actually had it...
~wolf #186
jellyfish salad? gross!!
~MarciaH #187
I posted a picture of it on Drool 72 and it was very tasty-looking. I think it had a great sauce and the jellyfish and been julienned (that takes some skill one would think!) and coated with a nice peanut-brittle-colored batter. I imagine it is like eating raw fish. I love it, but the fish is really almost tasteless. It is the great sauce which makes the difference.
~wolf #188
well i say just eat the sauce!
~MarciaH #189
but..but...you're still hungry if you do that. Of course, quick returning jellyfish might cause the same sensation! Yeesh!
~wolf #190
hmmmm.....got me there!
~KitchenManager #191
it's made with dried jellyfish that has been reconstituted...
~wolf #192
why does that sound like regurgitation to me? must be the animal instinct....at any rate, that still seems gross!!
~MarciaH #193
The picture makes it look very edible. It is one of those dishes one should not be told about till after one has tasted it. Preferably, w a y after! Surrounded by the world's largest ocean, I have to use reconstituted Jellyfish? Doesn't seem right, somehow. But, thanks wer, I never would have known. Will search them out at the grocery and report back what they look like all shrunken and dried.
~autumn #194
My kids loved the free jellyfish snow cones they got after every t-ball game. ;-)
~MarciaH #195
Please tell me they are not made from fresh or reconstituted Jellyfish!
~autumn #196
LOL!!
~MarciaH #197
This is the David the Geologist. Check Geo Conference if you are wondering what he is doing in here. Oh, yes, He is also my son. =)
~wolf #198
sure hope he's not planning on leaping out *grin*
~MarciaH #199
No, actually he was preparing to board. At least, that is what he told his Mom *huge grin*
~MarciaH #200
Ok Wolf, where is your picture. Email it to me if necessary (I promise to share it with no one!) Someone I have felt as close to, as I do to you, I need to be able to visualize. And, if you think you are funny-looking in your pix, just go back and look at mine. (all 2 of them!)
~wolf #201
i'll see what i can find, marcia! (if you go back through this topic, however, you'll find a nice wolfie picture *grin*)
~MarciaH #202
OK. but as I was scribbling one of double pictures I hunted for you, saw all of the guys and Terry's whole life flashed before my monitor...but no Wolfie. Will check again. You're a pretty neat lady and seeing you would help me know you a little better. Thanks!
~MarciaH #203
Wow, I found you at 35.8 and I am wondering if you can type at all with those claws!
~wolf #204
*grin*
~MarciaH #205
Our Lovely Autumn Moore
~stacey #206
WooWoo Autumn! Great to put a face with the name (and witty remarks!) Certainly babe topic worthy!!
~autumn #207
Thank you, Marcia!! Stacey, now imagine my hair a few inches shorter and a light auburn shade. And while you're at it, deduct 10 pounds! (hell, make it 20!)
~aschuth #208
And I'll deduct some age, too. Had you all guessed wrong. Didn't you know I love to be proven wrong in such delightful ways?
~MarciaH #209
Now, as to the rest of you hiding behind your monitors, email me your pictures and I shall do the same for you. Alexander, we are most curious to see the head encasing that brilliant mind, and Wolf, no more hiding. Anyone else??? My email works... marci@aloha.net
~stacey #210
*anxiously awaiting*
~wolf #211
*frowning* have no great pics to send, really, i don't! besides, well, you'll think i'm fishing for complements, but am so painfully shy and not much to look at *blush* autumn: your pic is great. the first shot made me look twice because the way the light is on your dress, it looked very risque *smile*
~stacey #212
oh WOlfie *hug* we already love you... we just wanted a visual to go with (no pressure though... I can live a bit longer with the images in my head... a week or two...) *smile*
~MarciaH #213
Wolfie, Dear...Mine is up there and I am older than anyone here by at least 20 years. If that is not enough to frighten anyone out of posting a picture, I do not know what is. I am not pretty, beautiful, build like a brick whatever and there has been no drool shed over me that I am aware of. It is just me. I hope my picture did not offend, and the postings after William put it up were nice enough to convince me I had done the right thing. Enough said.
~wolf #214
you guys are silly *big hugs*
~KitchenManager #215
wow
~autumn #216
LOL, Wolf, they ran that picture of me in the local paper (it was taken at my 15 year class reunion) and I got a lot of phone calls on that dress!! My mother said, "Who do think you are, Cher??" I am so sick of telling people in the supermarket, "It was the lighting!! The lighting was funny!"
~MarciaH #217
Sheesh, why didn't I think to post my Cher picture?! Oh well...(resuming my paper bag wearing while I watch other people drool...)
~riette #218
DAVID the geologist is absolutely GORGEOUS!
~MarciaH #219
Thank you! I think so, too. He is also very nice *smiling proudly and modestly*
~MarciaH #220
~mrchips #221
God! It didn't look that big and grainy when I sent it. But even at that, it more than does me justice!
~mrchips #222
Marcia, Still can't find Riette's pic although I'm sure she's gorgeous. I love her posts. By the way, that's a great picture of you in your element. You and Ray are the backbone of the Vulcan Boosters.
~MarciaH #223
Thank you - Ree's photo location is on its way to you. Email...
~mrchips #224
And yes, Marcia, Kristin and Riette are both babes as well. Funny, there are two babes in both pics. In Riette's case, the other babe is a bit more literal.
~stacey #225
Hey John! Nice pic!
~wolf #226
wow, watcha do, john? put your face on the scanner? and how'd you manage that without squishing your nose? see, because this may be the only way you get a pic of this wolfie! all joking aside, nice pic mr chips! ree is gorgeous so ignore what she says about herself. we all love her dearly!
~mrchips #227
my nose is squished....normally, it's the size of Jimmy Durante's!
~mrchips #228
Looks like the dot matrix self-photos on county fair T-shirts
~MarciaH #229
(No, your nose is NOT...stop telling the ladies things liket that...you have someone who know all about you here, remember?!) If you think that pix looks like dot matrix, try shrinking it with MGI Photo Suite. You turn into modern art! That is why your photo used so much room. I used two different photo programs and neither one could handle resizing this particular photo. Most curious!
~wolf #230
didja try the height and width tags in the command line? (it does look like a t-shirt from the booth in the mall!)
~MarciaH #231
(head on keyboard)....No I did not...and I should have!!! Sorry, If it takes up too much space I will scribble it and redo it. What do you think? (Actually after doing the resizing in much the same way on my porgrams, I think the result would not have been acceptable.)
~autumn #232
Nice to see you, John! Love the Hawaiian shirt!
~autumn #233
Nice to see you, John! Love the Hawaiian shirt! (although I guess over there you just call them "shirts")
~MarciaH #234
Actually, we all call them Aloha Shirts, and on Fridays everyone dresses Hawaiian and it is called Aloha Friday. Very nice, indeed.
~wolf #235
doesn't it seem a bit, um, redundant? that would be like us wearing our bdu's and calling it casual day *grin*
~MarciaH #236
Yup...but with flowers in the hair and Hawaiian music instead of elevator music, and beautifully tailored dresses and shirts, it is most attractive. At least the men do not have to wear a necktie. BDU....Blue Dress Uniform? Black Dress Uniform? Necktie for everyone!!!
~KitchenManager #237
Battle Dress Uniforms...
~MarciaH #238
Thank you...The Marine did not know what it was. I was guessing. I guess that includes the 60-pound backpack or however much they are required to carry into battle?
~wolf #239
*grin* actually, i wear the bdu all the time, it's the maintenance background in me. we have casual friday's but it's for the civilians in the squadron. if we wear civi's (you know, real clothes), it's because there's some other function going on.
~MarciaH #240
Are there such things as fatigues anymore, or are they called something else?
~ratthing #241
BDU: Basic Duty Uniform
~MarciaH #242
That makes more sense. Thanks Ray...glad to see you here again, and as you see, he is back and promises to return later...*smile*
~wolf #243
fatigues were fazed out several years ago. i'm not sure if the army still wears them. i think we've all moved into battle dress.
~ratthing #244
army's BDUs too, wolfie. is BDU = Battle Dress Uniform?
~wolf #245
yes indeedy!
~MarciaH #246
How little a civilian knows. This one would like to imagine how you dress for the day of duty. Helmet, weapon, provisions and everything you will need including your trenching tool...just to go to the motor pool or whatever your assignment is?! Battle uniform sounds like you will be under fire and are dressed and outfitted for that eventuality. Is it like that really?
~wolf #247
depends on where you are. the cops dress that way. the battle dress uniform is considered the working uniform and the blue uniform is the dress uniform.
~MarciaH #248
Ah yes, the Dress Blue Uniform. Donning that is like Superman in the phone booth. In both cases when you emerge all attired in your uniforms I will follow you anywhere. Have not seen a dress one I would not follow (with, perhaps, the excetption of those blue tights and cape ...)
~mrchips #249
Put Colin Firth in a Royal Navy officer's uni and you'd follow him, too. But, of course, Colin doesn't need the uniform--or in his line of work, costume. I remember women going gaga over Tom Selleck in his U.S. naval officer dress whites on "Magnum." But then, women generally go gaga over him, anyway.
~MarciaH #250
I met Tom when he played Volleyball in the Haili Tournament the first year he was in Magnum. He was adorable, and very personable. He is a true Babe - one who thinks he is not! I was accosted by every female thereafter for not getting his autograph. Sorry, but I do not use friendships to do that sort of thing, and he was there as a VB player for Outrigger Masters. They won!!! CF looks good in or out of anything he choses to wear...I have pictures both ways *B I G grin* He will be in a new series filmed for ITN (or is it ITV in Britain?!) and he will be in tight breeches again...*sigh*
~mrchips #251
Tom is a nice guy. I used to play softball with him on the old Columbia Inn Round Tablers team in Honolulu. He could hit the thing out of sight. Being around Tom was likely the only time Joe Moore (another Round Tabler and Hawaii's numero-uno TV news anchor, for the uninitiated) found women ignoring him!
~mrchips #252
~MarciaH #253
Joe Moore, our most excellent News Anchor has aged well...*another sigh* My list could go on and on - but no one would know the local hunks if I mentioned them, so it would not be fair. Local boy who made good is Monday Night Football's noisy play-by-play guy, but I am not even going to mention him in the same category as Joe, and neither am I gonna mention another local boy made good, Larry Beal (Aku's son) from ESPN. Bleah!
~mrchips #254
Hawaii has kinda co-opted Al Michaels. Despite the fact that he was only here for two years...and said some rather unpleasant things about a certain ethnic group on MNF once. Larry Beil was born and raised in Honolulu. You may or may not know it, Marcia, but Larry is Ted Sax's illegitimate son (Larry hates Ted).
~wolf #255
maybe i should move to hawaii and meet some of these folks. of course, i'm not a groupie or anything but i did chase after 38 special when they were leaving a local club after a mini concert. the older band members were much cooler than the new. the new ones were like, and you're here for what? the older ones were like, cool, thanks for coming. my first concert ever...*sigh*
~MarciaH #256
Oh yes, NOT Aku's...huh! Ted, the neo-more-Catholic-then-the-Pope convert...that is right. Now I remember...I know that there is no love lost with Larry (has he changed his name spelling again?!) Wolfie, only in Hawaii do we know this much about so many people. It is a v e r y tiny state, is it not, John!
~wolf #257
perhaps, one day, i'll vacation there with the family. would love to see the flora and fauna of the state....
~MarciaH #258
I would love to be your guide. I know about anything you need to know, but son't drive, so I could be navigator =)
~mrchips #259
It is a very tiny state. Larry and I had classes together at Manoa in 1982 before he got into TV and I was working overnights at KQMQ-FM. Then when I was doing mornings at KPOI, he was already at KGMB and also did our morning sports report (on the phone), His half-sister, Jan (Sax) Sage, was our production director. She was one of the best impressionists (vocal, not painting), I've ever heard. I don't remember Larry ever spelling his name any other way than Beil. He'd love to come back to Hawaii, bu openings are rare and he could only make half the money he makes at ESPN. His wife hates Bristol, Connecticut. I get an occasional e-mail from Larry (maybe twice a year). He's asked me not to send him jokes....he barely has time to keep up with biz related stuff. Wolfie, I can drive and have a big car. Marcia can still navigate!
~MarciaH #260
This is true. John drives an Land Yacht. I have maps and all sorts of visual aids...but bring your asbestos boots...I'm gonna get you on that hot lava!!! Interesting about Jan Sax - what is she doing now? Had not heard her name forever! I guess you are right about Larry and his last name...the more I look at it...*smile* Good to chat with you here, John!
~mrchips #261
Jan left her husband Billy Sage and went to New York. Haven't heard much since, except that she was trying her hand at stand-up comedy. That's a tough row to hoe. I know; I've tried it.
~riette #262
I don't recall meeting you, John. But now I know how you look AND speak! Do you live in Hawaii too?
~MarciaH #263
Until he awakens and starts his day, allow me to introduce you. He is a fellow Hilo-ite and I have known him for more years than either of us is willing to admit. You heard him! That is fantastic...!
~mrchips #264
Riette, I've lived in Hilo for the last 12 years, Hawaii for 24 of the last 26 (left a year-and-a-half for Los Angeles and came back). I know how you look also (you're a Babe) and you mentioned a Boer accent, so I can only surmise that you're from South Africa. Thank you Marcia, for speaking for me, now I'm on my way to meet my freshmen for the first time this school year.
~riette #265
Not South Africa, but Namibia, the country just north of it.. And I'm 'alf Boer, half english - nasty combination! What made you go to Los Angeles?? And I presume you and Marcia know each other quite well?
~MarciaH #266
That would be the case, yes. (Ree, I am 1/2 English and they are still discussing what the other half might be, but most likely German and Scots Irish which means I am at war with myself!) I have inflicted my friendship upon John for more years than either of us will admit to...*smile* John, Good luck with the new kiddies. I know they will only benefit from your expertise and sharp intellect. Giv'um!!!
~wolf #267
*lol* marcia! that's what i say about my kids (french and german)!!
~MarciaH #268
Does this mean la belle Wolfie is French, despite her Teutonic first name?
~wolf #269
nope. monsieur is french and polish, i'm 1/2 german and the other?? (irish, indian, spanish...)
~mrchips #270
I went to L.A. in 1978 to pursue a couple of writing jobs (radio and TV) and some stand-up comedy. I made what was--for me--a lot of money in the short time I was there, but also got screwed up in the head and did some things I'm not proud of. I came back with my tail between my legs in 1980 and have never lamented my lot in life--$$ or no $$--since! I met Marcia shortly after moving to Hilo (from Honolulu) in the late 80s.
~MarciaH #271
...zen 'e does not pronounce "Wolf" like that...'e says "Vulf"? I did not know there were french wolves, but then, there are lots of things I do not know. However, I am a willing and eager learner. And, sometimes I fall right into the vat while I am learning. Tie a rope around me first! BTW, that bloodline makes your children all-Americans, for sure!
~MarciaH #272
Only that long, John? You do not remember my son, then? (you slipped your post under mine, but I think they can follow the conversation ok...)
~mrchips #273
Yes...I may have seen you before then because I called Hawaii Loa games for two years before moving to Hilo in September 1987 (I've closed down more bars than I care to think of and one university to boot). I have never met David, but I did see the picture of the handsome young chap and read the women's drool comments concerning him. I also never met your ex, even though I got my degree from UH-Hilo. I did hear from a couple of sources (maybe you, for one) that he said some rather kind things about my peech when I graduated in 1994.
~mrchips #274
That was speech, not "peech." Don't want anyone getting the wrong idea about either me or your ex!
~MarciaH #275
He said it was the best speech he had ever heard at Commencement. And yours was the Valedictory speech, too, I might add. No wonder when I emailed David (Iki) about my happiness of having you post at Spring, he said he had heard of you but did not know you. Sheesh...Moms get all confused sometimes...*grin* I thought sure you knew Frank. But, he did not teach in the field you pursued, so that is logical. You did know which of the many professors hanging around there he was? Ah....right about the Hawaii Loa games.
~MarciaH #276
*LOL* John...that is Yapp Software shorthand. Nothing you can do about it, but it does make for interesting wording at times.
~mrchips #277
I do know Frank by sight although we've never spoken. I have a "peech" impediment!
~MarciaH #278
Well, he certainly knows who you are. "peech imspediment", Indeed!!! (It is more than a little weird and a lot of fun that there is someone on Spring who not only knows me, but knows my family.)
~riette #279
I was going to say, who the hell is Marcia's ex to be lamenting YOUR peech, John? And something about the NERVE some people have! But now I won't...
~mrchips #280
*LOL!* My peech isn't worth lamenting.
~wolf #281
wait! who's frank and how come i've read all the posts but have no idea what's going on?? (work has me so busy it's hard to grasp stuff i'm told *grin* doncha just hate that?)
~MarciaH #282
Wolfie, Dear...we were committing the most serious infraction to be done on posts - talking about things just we knew about. Frank is my ex. David is my son...the other people are local big frogs in a small pond. We should abandon the subject before you know far more about me than you ever wanted to know...and Honolulu, and John...and all the rest. Mea culpa...so sorry!
~wolf #283
puhleeeeze! i want to know all about the islands and the people who live on it! (david's your son, yup, that i knew *grin*)
~MarciaH #284
When I read your previous post, I about fell apart laughing. It was so undestated...hang around John and me and you will know more than just about anyone else besides us about the islands and their denizens.
~wolf #285
*rubbing paws together with glee*
~MarciaH #286
too bad school had to start. It is taking John away from posting. I shall encourage him this afternoon (HST) when he gets online. (salivating at the thought!)
~autumn #287
Marcia, is Hilo pronounced "High Low" or "Hee Low"?
~MarciaH #288
HEE low
~autumn #289
Thanks! The girls & I toured the US Geo Survey in Reston, VA while on vacation and saw a video on Mauna Loa. Afterwards I told them I knew someone who lived in Hawaii and liked studying geology but was unsure how to say the name of your city.
~MarciaH #290
Interesting! And if you's like to see what it looks like tomorrow (dark now) this has live cameras http://mloserv.mlo.hawaii.gov/current.htm
~wolf #291
well, glad i've never said "hilo" outloud!! *grin* i'm glad someone finally asked!!
~MarciaH #292
I think it is only Americans who would have problems with Hawaiian words. They use European vowel sounds. (...and how could someone find fault with you if you did not know...!)
~stacey #293
okay lemme try this... (now I gotta run to a browser and check it out!)
~stacey #294
damn!
~stacey #295
~stacey #296
ummm... do I have a bad address or what?? Help Marcia!
~mrchips #297
Did you stub a toe while running to the browser?
~stacey #298
*laugh* no... just my pride... trying to post a picture... can you help?
~MarciaH #299
stacey - can help you - now!!! email!
~mrchips #300
I'm just the typical useless male...don't know where the site is...the omniscient Marcia must be around
~mrchips #301
I knew she'd help!
~stacey #302
Marcia.. I DID that... to such disastorous ends...
~MarciaH #303
I can post it for you - I know what you want there, but follow my instructions and you will do just fine.
~stacey #304
okay... here's me trying again... like Marcia said...
~MarciaH #305
be sure the spacing is exactly as I sent it to you and no dotted line - just your pix source url ( you have it right)...try again.
~stacey #306
YEAH!!!!
~MarciaH #307
~stacey #308
That's me and B at the taste of Colorado last year... I'm making a scrapbook and thought I'd post some of the silly pics! SMILE
~MarciaH #309
Your url is wrong...put your pointer on the picture and ...hang on...let me check something...
~stacey #310
nope it wasn't... it worked!!!
~MarciaH #311
there is no picture there when you remove the command you just get a pink and blue goof box. Check again. Put pointer on the picture - use right mouse button and scroll down to "copy image location" click there. then put it in your command string.
~stacey #312
well damn it all... I saw it once... here goes again... damn you internet gremlins... LEAVE MY PICTURE BE!
~stacey #313
okay... here's the image location http://homepages.msn.com/ResortRd/staceyleigh48/festivalcropped.jpg so now I'm gonna stick it inside the img src command...
~MarciaH #314
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! I wanna see the pictures!!!!
~MarciaH #315
Honey, it won't work. Click on your links...they go to a blank page with that goof square in it.
~mrchips #316
If Marcia can't conjure up the image, then neither can David Copperfield!
~MarciaH #317
~MarciaH #318
That is brandon and stacey at lake dillon...
~MarciaH #319
Love your web page Dear! Those ferns sure look like here on the volcano, do they not, John?!
~stacey #320
nope... it's not... evidently talkcity prevents you from using their cache of pictures unless you are linking them to a talkcity page... dammit. thanks for trying!
~stacey #321
I'm meant 'nope it's not' to the fact the pic didn't post... the ferns... well heck, I dunno anything 'bout ferns!
~MarciaH #322
which is found at http://homepages.msn.com/ResortRd/staceyleigh48/
~mrchips #323
Can't see the ferns here and haven't gone to Stacey's web page yet, but I'll see if Talkcity graciously allows me access...unlike KWXX!
~mrchips #324
The ferns look very much like our Volcano species...and the Colorado scenery, the lake and the mountains are beautiful...but the people part of the pictures is much too small...but they look like a lovely, happy couple.
~MarciaH #325
which is found at http://homepages.msn.com/ResortRd/staceyleigh48/
~mrchips #326
Looks like we posted over each other...found it...thanks
~MarciaH #327
I did not post that 325. How did that happen???
~stacey #328
funny... I clicked on the http://homepages.msn.com/ResortRd/staceyleigh48/festivalcropped.jpg that I'd listed above and it showed me the pic in it's own browser window and when I clicked "back" all the pics were filled in... hmmm...
~stacey #329
POLTERGIST
~MarciaH #330
I guess you will have top put the thumbnail of the closeup of you two (he's a hunk!) in the command string and hope it shows up as the larger one. Worth a try!
~aschuth #331
Nice ferns on Mr. B, too! (Moments like this, I miss Jimmy!)
~stacey #332
(lotsa moments I miss him...) *grin* about the ferns!
~MarciaH #333
Chris and Ritte Walton's prize production for your enjoyment: was gonna post their names under their images, but she did not get back to me yet and I am eager to post this for you-all.
~aschuth #334
Where's the handbag?
~aschuth #335
Ah-oh, if Jerry F. sees this...
~mrchips #336
Marcia, you are so danged clever...how did you make the umlaut over the e in Riette?...Is it a special keyboard, or just more of your programming wizardry?
~stacey #337
Alexander... a young mother down the street mentioned that they've lost the handbag and now Tinky Winky has a deep "manly" voice... I think Jerry F won... I think Isa is the little one Marcia...
~MarciaH #338
I think the little one is Isa, too. I just could not recall the name of the older one...sorry!!!
~MarciaH #339
Speaking of the Waltons...(not those Waltons...) I posted two new paintings of Ritte's in Comic Art...please enjoy them - they are lovely...as everything is that she does.
~mrchips #340
Re: Ree, talented, oui!
~MarciaH #341
Si Si!
~MarciaH #342
I just heard from the Mama of those darling little ones I posted this morning. "The one in Red is Isa, the one in Purple is Elza!" Thank you!
~mrchips #343
They are cute as bunnies.
~riette #344
basking in the glory, frowning at ALexander My tubbies don't DO that handbag thang!! Handbags are for sissies!
~riette #345
I find ISa's (THE OLDER ONE) pose so cool! She's such a clever thing. When she was born I had to tell Mum everything on the phone. So I said she looks like her dad. Mum said, 'Well, let's just hope she'll have HIS brains as well ....' Sure enough!
~mrchips #346
OK...and hope they have Mum's artistic talent!
~Isabel #347
stacey: a young mother down the street mentioned that they've lost the handbag and now Tinky Winky has a deep "manly" voice... I think Jerry F won... Oh my God, they lobotomized Tinky-Winky - What a cruel crime. (Just saw Jerry F. running down the street wearing black nylons and carrying a red handbag)
~wolf #348
REE!!! your babies are beautiful!!!! thanks for sending the pick. isabel, have you been here before? are you a drooler finally braving the other areas of the spring?
~riette #349
toothy grin Yep, yep, just keep mentioning it! Welcome, Isabel!!!
~Isabel #350
Thank You! Where's drool - somewhere south of Uzbekistan? Uh, my geography knowledge were never the best...
~riette #351
Go to Main Menu, then to the full list of conferences - you'll find it there, dripping with saliva.
~wolf #352
and good luck catching up!
~riette #353
ha-ha! Yeah!! There'll be alot of THAT to do!
~Isabel #354
I've got enough to do catching up with the four or five topics I'm in now...allways forget what I wrote.
~Isabel #355
...mmh, looks boring and somehow cryptic...
~MarciaH #356
Stacey, why are you not posting your picture? (sent it to email at work...sorry!)
~riette #357
And what about you, Isabel?? Do we get to see what our newcomer looks like?
~wolf #358
email it to me and i'll be glad to post it! (along with all your mish mosh goodies!!)
~Isabel #359
If I ever get a photo of me where I don't look like a complete moron, you'll be the first to see it! I hate being photographed and I think there are no pictures existing from me - smashed all the cameras! By the way, where's Yours, Wolfie?
~mrchips #360
She's been asked that before...posted a picture of canis lupus
~Isabel #361
Hey, than I could send a picture of my cat instead! *LOL*
~mrchips #362
You're quite the kidder....just like Wolf. If Marcia didn't know me, I would have sent a picture of Ricardo Montalban (from the 1950s). That would have started some drool...
~MarciaH #363
...and Marcia was silly enough to post her own...like shooting oneself in the foot, huh! I wish I had though to post someone lie Raquel in the '50's!
~wolf #364
isabel, i hate my pictures too. am waiting for a good hair day, you know?
~mrchips #365
Good hair day??? I'm having a bad hair life! Why is it that my hair is the only part of my anatomy that IS thin???!!!
~MarciaH #366
John, it is in your genes (being very careful about how I am spelling that word.) And, that is MY line about bad hair life, but I'll happilly share it with you...I did not know your hair was thinning, but after Frank, anything looks hairy!
~mrchips #367
I developed that line "bad hair life." independently and have been using it for years...as maybe you have as well. It's a natural... Remember having used it first on KPOI in 1986.
~MarciaH #368
I can't believe you are that old. Had you your full set of adult teeth when you worked at KPOI?! (re that line: I have heard it just about "forever")
~wolf #369
well, you know how canine species can be, no one brushes us and we get mats, not to mention loads of itchy spots! i think the correct term for my particular problem is "bad face life"!!
~MarciaH #370
...had that, too. Not solely a wolf's problem, I think! Humans usually grow out of it, however... Mine, on the other hand, was inherited from a father and grandfather with weird senses of humor!
~mrchips #371
I worked for a very short time as a TV news anchor. I was fired after a station consultant told the news director I had "a face made for radio."
~riette #372
ha-ha!!! You're just fooling around again!
~aschuth #373
Hehe, that WAS a cool line. Those jerks are basically paid for coming up with these cool lines, and then to show them off, they gotta do something. The successful ones of these clowns stay in business consulting, the others dabble at being stand-up comedians...
~riette #374
You mean put-down comedians.... Same thing with art dealers.
~aschuth #375
If they don't sell, they go to the circus? (I read about that guy - incredible! And sorry about it, too.)
~riette #376
Yeah, well, that's why I want a degree - a BIG degree. So I can go back to painting for a hobby instead of being in the clowns-banging-each-other-over-the-head-with-bad-paintings circus act. Got myself a nice commission this weekend though - I get to paint my fat lady on a crocodile for a Scottish Anthropologist!! ha-ha! And I'll laugh even more when he pays me, 'cos it's going to be big, and he offered me 5 and a half for it. HEE-HAW!
~mrchips #377
Sounds like you don't need a degree. Just take the "Monet" and run!
~mrchips #378
Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach. Those who can't teach, consult!
~riette #379
ha-ha! It's true though! One of my lecturers at summer school this year told me that those lecturers who can't teach are promoted. And the really competent guys, that is, the ones who are prepared to WORK for their money, are kept where they are. I think that's sick.
~terry #380
I got a call from an old friend of mine, John Long, and he's starting up something called onlineartgallery.com. Good name. He's heavily involved with the NY art scene and movie biz. He said, among other things, that he's det in touch with Suzy Amis, who he knows, about our http://www.suzyamis.com site. John and I took t'ai chi classes when I lived in San Fransciso from Master Choy, who arguably has the best t'ai chi form in the world.
~riette #381
cool!
~mrchips #382
That is cool. I love to go to Kalakaua Park in downtown Hilo in the late afternoons and watch the old men do t'ai chi. I've been considering getting the David Carradine video, since I would like to do t'ai chi, but don't want to make any more of a public ass of myself than I do here in Spring. BTW, We have a Master Choy in Hawaii, too. His name is Sam Choy. He is Hawaii's best known chef, and my hero.
~MarciaH #383
John, do NOT try to emulate Sam Choy...no matter how heroic your worship. I think there are two John Burnetts inside of Sam Choy. I worry about him!
~riette #384
T'ai chi? With which tie? Stupid joke, Ritte, sit.
~terry #385
Can I tai your chi?
~stacey #386
ugh
~riette #387
ha-ha!!! Sure, Terry-guy! That is, if you can find such a thing on this physiognomy...
~aschuth #388
It is that that underlais your physiognomy. Terry probably can do what he said, if he's a regular practitioner: increase your chi.
~riette #389
As long as he can do it without tai-ing me down.
~mrchips #390
Thank you, Marcia (and don't tell the FBI). Escaped from the Manson family and on the loose, here is John Burnett, circa 1981.
~MarciaH #391
Looks like they lined you up against the proverbial wall and shot you! But look at those eyes...You were not concerned too much...I gather this was not for the USN ID purposes?!
~terry #392
He looks like a lot of guys in Austin! He would fit in great around these parts.
~MarciaH #393
I thought it was far too hot to be so incumbered...but thinking of another person who is not quite that shaggy...I guess that is not a problem! Ok Terry, when are you going back to long hair?! (Or have you and we have not see the pictures yet?)
~terry #394
I may not be going back to long hair, short hair is just too easy to get along with! Low maintenance!
~autumn #395
John, is that picture from a line-up? LOL!
~MarciaH #396
It almost looks like one of those desperados which the posse shot then propped up against a wall and took his picture for posterity. John? Are you not commenting our our compliments? Terry, I agree about the maintenance of long hair - way too time-consuming!
~mrchips #397
My beard is now gray and I don't have enough hair on top to make long hair worth it. Besides, I now look friendly enough that people stop me on the street to ask directions. When I looked like that, people would see me coming and jaywalk to the other side of the street to avoid me. Must be that Manson Family thing...
~MarciaH #398
(He's cute and you just want to hug him, actually!)
~riette #399
I think he's got incredible eyes.
~MarciaH #400
UmmmHmmm! I've looked into those baby blues in person. I will vouch for their worthiness any time! Sorta bed-roomy at times...*smile*
~riette #401
I like the look in them too - sort of pissed off and arrogant.
~MarciaH #402
I have never been the target of "stink-eye" (Hawaiian pidgin for dirty look) from John, but I can well imagine that it could be devastatingly effective.
~MarciaH #403
I have deleted the huge and grainy portrait of John Burnett and between us have come up with a much better one:
~wolf #404
that's a good one! john, don't take this the wrong way, but you make me think of john candy (i loved him, so that's a compliment!)
~mrchips #405
That's one I can only take negatively. He died at 43 from a massive coronary.
~mrchips #406
It is however, a comparison I've heard more than once...
~MarciaH #407
Sorry, but from my totally impartial viewpoint, John is much the handsomer!
~mrchips #408
There are one, perhaps two adjectives which could be deleted there and one adverb certainly.
~MarciaH #409
(stamping my little foot in exasperation) No! There cannot!
~MarciaH #410
...ok...you can remove "totally"...
~mrchips #411
But John Candy did outlive my late daddy, E. (who fell off the crapper and died due to a massive coronary) by a year. John Candy DID have beautiful teeth that I wish I had.
~wolf #412
ok, so jc had a coronary, that doesn't mean you will. john had a wonderful sense of humor and was just a lovable kind of guy. i didn't find him ugly either or did i care that he was a large fella. (i'm sorry but that line about daddy e made me laugh). well, take it as you like, it really and truly is a compliment so say thank you *grin*
~wolf #413
(see you guys later, gotta get some shut-eye)
~MarciaH #414
G'night Wolfie!
~autumn #415
Great picture of John! He looks just like I imagined, only younger (hope it's OK to say that!)
~MarciaH #416
(I think that will be a guaranteed-to-please comment!)
~mrchips #417
And not quite as grainy...
~mrchips #418
Thank you *grin* Wolfie and Autumn. Yes, Marcia, I'm back and I still love you.
~MarciaH #419
John is definitely not grainy....smoothe is more like it. *sigh* The second part of your comment above is the nicest thing I have seen here for a very long time...we missed you, and I return the sentiment.
~Isabel #420
Great shirt, John!
~aschuth #421
You any relation to the guy with that red sports car? The spitting image, I say!
~mrchips #422
Everyone seems to think so.
~aschuth #423
;=}
~aschuth #424
Or, that a problem?
~mrchips #425
No problem here. Wish I had a red sports car, maybe a classic Porsche!
~MarciaH #426
I can imagine you in a red classic Porche just fine - or the Targa...But, you are much better looking than the other guy!
~aschuth #427
I never liked the moustache anyway!
~MarciaH #428
Did not do much for me, either. However, on the right guy...that is another story!
~riette #429
terrified gasp How can you SAY these things? Magnum is IT. He was the first man I ever fell in love with!
~aschuth #430
Hmh. Ehrhem. Arh, excellent choice, Riette. (Gosh, how do I get off that hook?)
~mrchips #431
I wasn't even thinking of Selleck, and I doubt Marcia was either. I remembered a movie where John Candy was driving a red sports car. I don't look anything like Magnum (I WISH!). I used to play softball on the same team with him in Honolulu--Tom is an absolutely great guy. I could also be happy playing (or being) Courtney Cox's boyfriend. But thanks. That picture (about five years old) does me too much justice. I hope the station paid the photog (who is now retired) well. (and yes, a red Ferrari T starossa would do fine).
~MarciaH #432
No, I was not thinking of Magnum (Selleck)...Selleck is Selleck and Burnett is Burnett. Both are unique and cherished individuals and both of whom I have met. I'll take Burnett because he is not quite as shy as Selleck and I can get more than just a few words out of him *grin*
~mrchips #433
If I were a woman, I'd go for Selleck. He's handsome and rich...and Robin Masters lets him use both his estate and his Ferrari.
~MarciaH #434
John, I am older and wiser. I go for content. You can go for Selleck if you'd like, though you'd make a miserable woman...=P
~riette #435
OH, how embarrassing. Perhaps I'm still not over Selleck....man!!
~MarciaH #436
Ree...if you are talking about Magnum, what woman is ever *over* him?! *sigh*
~Isabel #437
:-/ ?
~MarciaH #438
I think the German contingent just checked in and added her dismay to the discussion. I gather you never liked him, Isabel? How could that be?!
~Isabel #439
I don't want to upset anyone.... But he's soooo A-W-G-L-Y! YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEECH! I must admit that drooling is not my strongest point.....
~stacey #440
within the next couple o' days I hope to have the first wedding pics in here... might take awhile for the rest! (and Alexander... I just received your reply back today! We DID have a layover in Frankfurt but we spent most of it napping in the lounge... I would certainly have preferred to share a beer with you IRL!)
~MarciaH #441
Welcome home, Mrs T *smile* *hugs* We missed you! (we are waiting patiently...)
~aschuth #442
(S., I would have preferred that, too... Or sung you two guys serenades, or a lullaby!)
~aschuth #443
(or rather not, security is hot there, and they might charge me for assault with a dangerous arm...)
~aschuth #444
(erh, weapon, make that dangerous weapon!)
~stacey #445
*laugh* it's certianly the thought that counts Alexander...
~riette #446
Jeez, now you have an even stranger surname! Rrrrussian special underrrrcuvverr agent, Stacey Tinianov. COOL!
~stacey #447
and it IS Russian! ah... I'd LOVE to be a special undercover agent if it took me to Greece a few times a year!
~riette #448
THAT'S how nice it was? I've never been to Greece. blush Everyone else has been to Greece.
~mrchips #449
Has the KGB kidnapped our Stacey and replaced her with a Russian fem-bot clone?
~aschuth #450
With switch-blades clacking out of her boots when she stomps her feet! Like, uh, was that Lotte Lenya in James Bond?
~aschuth #451
Ah, the fortunous Mr. Secret Agent! Imagine - his own Bond Girl!
~terry #452
OK now I know about the Bond girl I was scratching my head about in babes, it's our own hard bodied, woo, woo, babe.
~MarciaH #453
...I presumed from the post here that she is whom Alexander had in mind...
~mrchips #454
I thought Lotte Lenya was from Kurt Weill's Threepenny Opera, but she'll do. Actually I was thiking of Vanessa Kensington in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. Elizabeth Hurley. Now THERE'S an Englishwoman who DOES float my boat! What the hell was Hugh Grant thinking, anyway???????
~riette #455
'Gee, I'm horny'?
~MarciaH #456
You are giving Hugh Grant credit for thinking? You have not been to Drool lately. The guy's a jerk and like Ree said...that is what he was "thinkging"... if that's the word.
~riette #457
I don't know if he's a jerk, but I generally don't get particularly turned on by guys with gently rotting front teeth...
~mrchips #458
You know my feeling about Drool. I'll never go back there.
~MarciaH #459
I go in only when I feel strong...they have gone on without me just fine...but there are good friends in there for me just in case I need to recover my roots at Spring and pull in my horns or whatever. (HG also has appalling lack of respect for EH. How could he?! He is stupid and I HATE stupid people!!!)
~MarciaH #460
..or is the more a case of the casual stuff we were discussing in Email yesterday and perfectly acceptable - except by me? I'm in big trouble if I have to make up for lost time in this area...
~mrchips #461
I don't know. I think he's just not as smart at that cultured British accent makes him sound.
~MarciaH #462
You got that right, as they say some places...
~mrchips #463
HALF: TCU 14 HAWAII 8
~aschuth #464
John, Lotte Lenya (sometimes written Lenja) indeed was in Bert Brecht's Dreigroschen-Oper, as it's originally called. The Musik was by Kurt Weill, who emigrated in the 30ies to save his life, and worked from then on in the US. There's a recording of the original early 30ies cast available (incl. some scores from French movie versions), and for people liking Weill's work, two tribute CDs with curious new interpretations. If somebody is interested, I could look that up... If I get that right, Weill and Lenya were married. There's one Bond-movie with her in it - perhaps "From Russia with Love"? There's a scene where she plays an elderly maiden in a hotel, with these SPRIMGblade-shoes, and attacks somebody. Of course she's East German secret service... Hard-bodied, uh? What'd you think that comes from, Terry! A secret agent's trainings cycle is at least as hard as a publisher's - there's all these dry Martinis, the champagne and hors d'oeuvre, rope-swinging, funds-swiping and bullet-dodging. Plus the martial arts-stuff: vodka-downing, exotic cheese-guessing, seafood-digesting. And then there's all that suff you hafta to do to all these people: arm-twisting, feet-stepping and nose-thumping. It's one hell of a job, but somebody's gotta do it. Ok, so the comparison doesn't hit on the nail squarely enough. Sue me, everybody! That was at least rapid (rabid?) response posting...
~wolf #465
um....i've just read the above and i liked magnum but i liked selleck even better in her alibi.... and that description about HG's "gently rotting teeth" made me roll!! and now i'm really terrified of posting my pic here! was looking at the pics i took while in port aransus and man, it's not a pretty site.... and now i know how we got the bond girl topic in babes!!
~MarciaH #466
Amazing what insight old posts will give to new topics, but the Bond Babes has turned into Drool topic for Ree...as does anywhere she goes (Not jealous, just stating the truth!)...must be nice to be talented and desirable, too. Let's see, somewhere I must have a virtue, but there is not a category for it yet...!
~MarciaH #467
(...don't suppose Wolfie would even consider emailing me a confidential promise-not-to-post picture so I could imagine better with whom I am playing stone school...?!)
~riette #468
What 'drool topic for Ree'???? Don't be silly, woman! I'm only as desirable as the nerd I am, and that's how that business goes from beginning to end. No flocking men at social occasions like with you .... I wonder who SHOULD be jealous around here! Wolfie, you MUST post us your picture! I was just being horribly rude about Hugh Grant, whom I actually don't dislike in pictures. Frankly I'd rather have gentlly rotting teeth than an ar$e like two condemned pieces of veal. So, PLEEEEZE!
~aschuth #469
What if somebody had both - an arse like rotting veal, and gently condemned teeth? Would that disqualify from becoming a Bond girl?
~MarciaH #470
Ree, Sweetie, when our Fearless Leader talks baby talk to you and chases you from topic to topic, something is appealing to something else...and another gentleman has pursued you in the name of friendship and you tease him and carry on like you were in a cat fight, but I know better. Enjoy, my dear!!! *hugs* (What flocking at social occasions? Have I been missing something?!) Alexander - does that image do something for you? Sounds revolting, but, hey! Whatever turns you on...!
~aschuth #471
Naw, yak! Don' worry, just asking. I mean, I didn't come up with this line of nail-biting stuff, no? (Mighta been I got something mixed up, too.)
~MarciaH #472
Vous?! Nevah (Jane Austen's way of spelling the word for emphasis), you clever and witty Herr Alexander auf Hessen...I have never known you to be mixed up unless it was intentional *grin* You cannot know how relieved I am that you are not into people in the act of destabilization.
~wolf #473
ree, sweetie, you keep on cracking me up! gently rotting teeth and an arse of veal! *LOL* speaking of teeth, *griiiinnnn*, you guys ever take a look at david bowie's? yuck!!
~MarciaH #474
No thank you! My David has a sparkling set of teeth with no cavities and all perfectly aligned. How could I have passed my Dad's genetic teeth to my son without taking one for myself?! Humbug! (am I talking about that kid again?! He just sent new pix last night and they are so gorgeous...I miss him..it has been since a year ago last September that I have seen him...*sniff*)
~MarciaH #475
(Just discovered my error...I should have saved a set for me rather than just one...but I did not, and my dentist is a happy man!)
~riette #476
EEEK, Wolfie, David Bowie!!! Can't they just have pulled his wisdom teeth at some point??? None of this need ever have happened! Marcia, will you be visiting your son soon, or will he be visiting you? And our Fearless Leader doesn't persue me!! He is just interested in my health secrets.....ha-ha!! (Terry, tell her!!!) And I can assure you nobody else has been persuing me in the name of friendship or anything else - unless Tim is back?!?!?! IS he???? Have I missed something here??
~terry #477
Yep, Ree's right, I'm going to charm those health secrets out of her yet!
~MarciaH #478
Yessum, if that's what you say, that is the truth...(uh huh....) No, our Terry is not Tim-the-Trucker. YUCK!!! Watch it though, Ree, make him EARN those secrets so hard won by you *smile* (getting out my sandwiches and blanket to watch and take notes)
~riette #479
Here, have a frozen-Coke-and-Smartie sandwich while you're waiting.
~terry #480
I really have an unfair advantage over y'all cause ree sent me this video of her in her studio, with clips from other places she's been, and she's so charming and delightful that I wish she'd let me play it on our webcam page. Or at least have a private showing with a secret url that just folks she knows could watch. But back to those health secrets, I think it's time you spilled one, Ree.
~wolf #481
which gives me an idea....perhaps i'll post a pic of myself on a secret page and only let the very few have that url.....hmmmm.......
~MarciaH #482
Like a certain conference...? We Need to see our most talented and charming Boer-Swiss Ms. Wolfie, please do it! I really bond better if I have a visual of the person with whom I am bonding *hugs* and *smiles*
~MarciaH #483
Uh...Ree? Is that diet you proposed above part of your youth / beauty secret?
~riette #484
Wolfie, that's a great idea! You could post it in inner, right? Marcia, the diet I proposed is part of my saddlebag secret! Terry, is there no way you could play the video with just the bits of Switzerland, Namibia and South Africa? Otherwise you can play it, I don't mind, but it's going to be appalling, I tell you. The suzie-cream-cheese bubble will burst mightily!
~MarciaH #485
How can that be, Ree? Terry has seen it and you in it, and he persists in admiring you...not all for your artistic talent, I think! You are far too modest and you are beginning to bug those of us who are mortal and not as cute nor as talented....*hugs*
~terry #486
Then it will be done, details will be found elsewhere.
~riette #487
Details??? What details? Oh boy ... Terry, you promised you'd keep the secrets!!! And if ya don't I'll send you some more mouldy cheese! Like Marcia said, it's not a threat, it's a PROMISE!
~terry #488
Oh boy, more moldy cheese!
~riette #489
Don't sound so happy - this is supposed to be a serious threat!!!
~MarciaH #490
*lol*
~MarciaH #491
*sigh* We seemed so much younger when the preceeding comments were posted. Now three of us are missing...*sigh*
~sprin5 #492
Now playing, at this very, red hot moment, my tape from the Wailers Concert in Austin two nights ago, the Colin Firth appearance tonight, and, *and* my day trip to Wimberly today. I and I mon!
~MarciaH #493
We seem to be driving around....and that is not your voice!!! Oh gollllly!!! Is that Texas Music on your radio? Is that your narration???
~MarciaH #494
You sound very nice!!! I am pleased to meet you!
~sprin5 #495
Right now the Wimberly tape is playing.
~MarciaH #496
It is very nice - and reminds me of little places in Arizona...but it that you speaking??? I MUST know!
~MarciaH #497
and...do we get to see you??? Please?!
~MarciaH #498
You are totally gorgeous!!!
~MarciaH #499
Coffee cup is ok but you...*Big Sigh*
~sprin5 #500
I'm rewinding the tape, I'll run it again as I record it from the Digital Camera to the VHS. It's got the Firth show, then the Wailers, then a segment of Elota's play, then my trip to Wimberly.
~sprin5 #501
Actually, no firth in this tape, it starts out with the Wailers.
~zx6rider #502
Hi y'all. I'm a dis-placed Texan living in Massachusetts... Andover to be exact. I met Terry long ago and far away while living in NYC in an online community called ECHO. He graciously inviited me back to Austin (via cyberspce) where my appearances to date have been infrequent. But, with my new high speed, constantly connected cable modem I 've been able to come 'home'. I've been lurking about for about a week. It's good to already have met a couple of new people (Marcia, John and Wolf). I look forward to seeing you all around the Spring. Now, how do I put a picture in?
~MarciaH #503
Gena, Ginny lives in Boston and has been keeping us updated on their morass called the "Big Dig" on the Travel conference. You've been having really severe weather lately, too!n Send me your picture and I will post it. It has to be already on the Internet to post it, so I will put on my space at spring's hard drive. Email it to me as a file. Most of our portraits were in there and are no longer viewable since Spring moved to a new server.
~sprin5 #504
We can probably get them all back when I get my old servers hooked back up again on the Quail DSL modem.
~MarciaH #505
Really????!!!! I'd better put them back on my space on the hard drive. Let me know when /if to so do. Thanks! I can always reinstall them!
~zx6rider #506
Is that why I've got "X's" where photos ought to be? I thought it was me! Whooo-eee, am I relieved. MArcia, post my 'bike' photo I sent ;-) When I get a uh, more revealing one, I'll send it to you. Oh, and I see from past posts, you're rather the data geek (that IS acompliment), so could ya-would ya email the commans string for posting photos onto this place. I'll file it away until it's usable. Thanks.
~zx6rider #507
and maybe send a couple of hands that can type while you're at it! jeez that last post was a mess!
~MarciaH #508
Gonna make it a little smaller, if that's ok. And yes, I'll send you the command string to post your own pictures. Just keep them under or around 50 BK (I try to keep them below 30 KB As for the mess, I notice I am not all that swift at times, either. Especially late at night after spending all day here. We know what you meant!
~MarciaH #509
Gena, I just sent you the command string for your picture. Please post it for me by pasting it to the submission box and hitting the button.
~sprin5 #510
revealing?
~zx6rider #511
You'll see... Marcia I just received the instructions, so here goes... this is me.
~zx6rider #512
I'm the one in front on the teal bike. This was taken at NH Speedway last summer at a trackday where you learn how to ride the course. It's fun and it's fast!
~MarciaH #513
Awesome, Gena! Isn't it something else to see it unfurl and you on the net forever?!
~wolf #514
did you win?
~sprin5 #515
I almost didn't recognize you.
~zx6rider #516
It wasn't a race. We were in a class. That's my instructor behind me in the red penny. First she'd ride in front to show us the correct line to take through the corners, then we took turns going in front with her behind critiquing our skill. This photo was taken as I FINALLY got turn 3 right without losing all my speed.
~wolf #517
cool!
~sprin5 #518
What kind of bike is that you're riding? red penny?
~zx6rider #519
My bike is a '93 Kawasaki zx6-e. The red penny is that thingy over her leathers.
~sprin5 #520
Of course, duh! .
~zx6rider #521
don't y'all call those things 'pennys'...i could swear i that's what they called them hen I went to school out that way. Girls couldn't play 'shirts vs skins' so one team would wear 'pennys' and the other team didn't.
~MarciaH #522
Pinniese.... spoil sports *laugh*
~MarciaH #523
I'll spell it right this time - one is a Pinny more are pinnies
~zx6rider #524
Ohhh.. well, spelling can be a problem. Plus with my accent. The Yankees go "huh" sometimes when I talk... then they process, then they understand.
~MarciaH #525
That's ok...Now I know what to look for. I was checking for Penny loafers before *lol* Hey, where's your pseudonym, GreasyRider or whatever??
~zx6rider #526
That's was Propeller Head to you grrlie! I only changed it that one place. I had to night-night last night. I think I'm the only one zipping in from the east coast... y'all stay up too late for me! But isn't Hawaii even more hrs earlier than California? What's the time diff btn you and NY?
~zx6rider #527
Oh... I forgot to mention. As I sit here in my living room today April 26th at 8:27 am EDT, it's SNOWING outside! I can't believe it... Summer's never coming to New England.
~sprin5 #528
Wow, snow. Yeah, you're the first one up every day. I usually get up around 6 am or 7. It's going to be another hot one here in Austin, and I'm planning to be around the pool this afternoon.
~zx6rider #529
I want to be you! Even if you do have a big beard ;-). WARNING! Whine alert! I wanna lay by the pool!!! I wanna get a sunburn!! I wanna NOT BE WEARING polarfleece in April!!!
~MarciaH #530
I get up around 5-6am which is 11 am-12 noon for the east coast. When Y'all go to bed it is still early eveing for me. We get the tail end of the day is Hawaii...but no snow this time of year on our mountains is likely, though it is technically possible. We avoid getting burned and stay out of all polls if possible here. Way too intense unless you are really slathered with sunblock. Too close to the equator.
~MarciaH #531
We also stay out of POOLS as well, excepting tide pools which are cleansed by Nature and stocked the same way with the most incredible life on earth. Y'all get water-wings for that 'cycle of yours and get yourself over here. You'll get the sunburn of a lifetime!
~zx6rider #532
hmmmm. water wings on the zx. A new twist on 'chitty-chitty-bang-bang' if I ever saw it! It's still snowing... it's slushy, wet, cold, nasty, splat snow. At this rate I will be riding my bicycle in my living room until June, and it's so hard to make the corners. My apartment is little!
~MarciaH #533
Have to put your feet down a lot, do you? Yeesh! Where was this stuff in November and December when it would have been welcome?! Send it over here. We just let it fall on the mountains so we can admire it from the deck chair in the yard in the shade of a palm tree sippping a tall cool one. The only way to admire snow, according to my father. I rather like the cold - but hate the rheumatic cold wet stuff. Oh yes, get that zx airborne and you have it made!!! *lol*
~sprin5 #534
I did make it to the poolside, where I am now. The computer's back out there like last summer. So summer fun begins. The pool's clean too, Paul Fuck (the pool guy) has obviously been by here from the unfettered look of the clear, blue water. OK, OK, Gena, I'll stop rubbing it in now.
~zx6rider #535
Yeah, yeah, yeah.... and your pool guy's name is WHAT! I truly hope that was a typo. I envision a small boy getting his mouth washed out with soap everytime he introduced himself in school.
~MarciaH #536
My thoughts exactly. Did Terry post a typo *lolrotf*
~sprin5 #537
Paul *Fucik*; it was a typo.
~zx6rider #538
Thank goodness.... I was miserable with pity for the poor little fella
~MarciaH #539
*LOL* aren't we happy for him!!! Not a Freudian slip there?!
~MarciaH #540
I was already thinking of ways to pronounce - like "Fewk" Just hope they don't ask you to spell it...*still laughing*
~mikeg #541
Bah...just about all the links in this topic are busted (including my own)...
~MarciaH #542
I have a lot of the old pix on my new space on the hard drive... shall I repost the ones I have? (I even downloaded Yours... so I could remember your boysish charm!)
Help!
